Great point. Maybe they are aware and so will raise the bar with the extras! And it stinks because so many of those early tunes on the Red album sound amazing with the enhanced mixing. They really shine in my opinion. Incredible work. But now all the best stuff from those early albums he have now heard on those compilations. Not all the best stuff...

Word on the street is no Rubber Soul boxset this year. I guess they're saving it for the 60th anniversary next year. Apparently instead we're getting a release related to the 'First US visit' VHS/DVD. So I guess a blu ray with added extras. From here on out all the future Anniversary albums are spoiled because of the reissue of the Red and Blue compilations. For example that Red album featured 8 tracks (out of 14) from Rubber Soul. Granted the outtakes and demos could be excellent but they sort of aped this yearly anniversary project. Nice as they are, the remixes are the least interesting aspect of these Anniversary releases anyway - the real gold is in the outtakes.

This is fucking insane.
This is a song from the late nineties.
It cannot have been written in 1967.
Six minutes of acid-rock guitars and shoegaze production, transcendent pop melodies, and a processed beat over deeper chaotic drums. This is utterly, unthinkably, beautiful. NINETEEN-SIXTY-FUCKING-SEVEN. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time and if you disagree, you simply do not know enough about The Beatles.

I'm lookin to start collecting this band on 8 track. Older rock bands like The Beatles to me at least... it's the most fun way to hear em. Already have one half of the red album on this format, apparently was a double tape.

Honestly I'm surprised considering the condition of this 8 track, that it even worked at all when I got it. I did have to repair it before I could confidently play it however. Musta sat on someone's dashboard in their car, cause that label is hella faded.

The Beatles are everything. heheh, dang right they are. The fact I know ALL the words to every song on that 8 track there says somethin about me. Absolutely adore The Beatles. They never really made a single bad song. There's somethin to like for everyone with every Beatles song. When I blare that tape... let me be clear, the neighbors hear it. Usually for hours on end. It's just that fun to listen to.

Left winged, mostly. They had everything and they gave us everything. I have a couple of 8 track transfers.. Revolver and cartdrige 1 from White Album. If you want them let know. Oh and by the way, of course I love Nirvana also and You Know You're Right was like... If I'm gonna go I'll do it massively big. What a tune.

A real chonker for playin Beatles stuff. And lots of classic rock in general. I got stuff like Slade, Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Nazareth, Bay City Rollers, Kiss, Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly, The Beach Boys, and much more. But that being said, that Beatles tape is in my top 10 of my entire 8 track collection.

Is it individual tracks of all separate components of their songs?

Those old late 60s and 70s tapes with an infinitely looping spool of tape with 4 programs of audio, 2 channels each program, hence their name, 8 tracks. They have a metal splice at the beginning/end of the loop which tells the player to change tracks when the sensor inside detects it. If you look a few posts above, you can see what one looks like, a pic of my Beatles tape. The one that looks like it sat on the dashboard of someone's car and looks all faded.

If infinite parallel universes exist, there's one of them where this track was The Beatles comeback single.

If there's one thing I was never keen on, it was double tracking vocals of John. I get it that he requested to George Martin to do that as he was always critical of his own voice, but man oh man, if he only knew how great his voice was.
Case in point is the stripped back version of Double Fantasy. Presenting Lennon's vocals in its rawest form is the best way to enjoy it, often superior to the end product.

The bonus CS with this, Secret Friend full version.. Yeah he should have stuck to the original plan of it being a double album. That wacky stuff he was doing doesn't really serve a single album given its lack of coherency, and I think madness and versatility is best served as a selection box of some sort. Maybe he just thought it would invite comparisons with The White Album though.

McCartney 2 is a little disjoined but a genuine double album adding in those brilliant tracks from CD2 (Sway, Friend, Check) would have done the trick. Didn’t the record company nix it?

How many Beatles mania touring docs do we need? It wasnt that long ago that Ron Howard made one.

Red Rose Speedway in 1973 was also supposed to be a double album, but the record company forced Paul to trim it down to a single LP. The double album version saw the light of day fairly recently and its a far more enjoyable album with the extra songs in my opinion. I think Paul was pissed off at the time because Yoko Ono had been allowed to release a double album in both 1971 and 1973 (just before Red Rose Speedway came out!).

So much for Noel being a fan of The Beatles, he claims he never heard this song until 2010.
