Don't believe the negativity, best tv performance in 20 years and a varied interesting solid album, way better than AYW ....production and songs on another level with much bigger mass appeal

After 2 listens 1. Shockwave - 8 - Good opener, catchy and almost as good as WoG 2. One of Us - 8.5 - Lovely song. End of it proper catches me out, wasn't expecting it, but really good none the less. 3. Once - 9 - Probably the best song on the album. Sounds even better than when I heard it first over the summer 4. Now That I Found You - 8/10 - Sounds great, only early but this will only get better 5. Halo - 7.5 - Interesting Song and a good upgrade on Bring The Light. 6. Why Me? Why Not - 9 - Contender for the best song on the album. Brilliant stuff 7. Be Still - 7.5 Still working this one out, but it is at least a good song 8. Alright Now - 8 - Caught me ear straight away this one, and probably only get better. 9. Meadow - 7.5 - A different sounding song, which is a good thing. Doesn't blow my mind, but again its at the minimum a good song 10. River - 7 - Its ok, nothing special. Probably worst on the album 11. Gone - 7.5 - Sounds good. Hopefully grows as well. 8.5/10 - I think this album is going to be the best Gallagher release since SOTSOG. Will grow even more through more listens. This lesser songs on here are better than the lesser songs on AYW. Worst “review” I’ve ever read.

It’s Liam, I’ll listen to this many many times. It’s exciting as fuck. BUT I Wish there was something here as good as I’ve All I Need or Bold. But there isn’t.
If As You Were was an 8/10, this is about a 6 I’d say.
Ps - although overall production is good, it also really ruins some of the songs. The heys in shockwave, the shocking “once once once once” bits, the echo on the river... a few more bits here and there.

After two days of listening, here’s the rundown.
First off, it was a little better than I expected. The songs we’d heard were feeling much more lacklustre than I usually feel about new Liam / Noel releases. Also given that every song was co-written with the team, I felt already that I’d enjoy it less than AYW as my favourites off that record were all the self penned tunes - I’ve all I need, never wanna be like you, I get by, bold, you better run, universal gleam. Those songs couldn’t have come from anyone else. I like Liam’s songs because they’re Liam’s songs. He’s in there somewhere. I’m not against co-writers or reaching out for help but there’s co-written and “co-written”.
Not surprisingly the album is very heavy on production, which does for a lot of the songs well, even if it’s not always to my taste. My favourite moments were hearing just how happy Liam sounds on NTIFY, the chorus in WMWN, the coda in Alright Now (“I wonder are you listening? Now I know”), the spoken word part in Gone (could have been more in the forefront), and the chorus of Once. Songs that worked best here were Meadow, One of Us, the River, Found You.
I was surprised also that the 3 bonus tracks were as good as they were. Then again I shouldn’t have been surprised, the b-sides evolved into bonus tracks. I was blown away by all 3 the first listen. Telling a friend about it that, I felt maybe I was wrong. Listened again and sure enough they were great. I like Misunderstood more than Once, Invisible Sun should have been the opening single instead of Shockwave, and I was really pleasantly surprised by Glimmer’s upbeat shuffling trot. Reminded me of 80s REM.
Songs ranged from an 8/10 to a 5, like Halo (which wasn’t great but I loved the way Liam sings “mittens”). Shockwave was at the bottom of the bunch, which was a relief as I feared it may have been one of the high points. The only one I’m rather unsure of is Be Still. On one hand it sounds fresh and modern but it also makes me recoil a little because it has a sound like it’s aimed at the tiktok crowd with generic lyrics full of every cliche as someone here wrote.
Overall, I’d give the album a 6.8/10. 6.5 is too low, 7 a bit too high so 6.8 it is. For comparison, I’d say AYW was an 8.

It sounds like what it is, people who don't really care about or get Liam, and who have other more lucrative projects that interest them more, throwing him a few bones. Noel probably actually rather likes NTIFY ecause it astonishimly out-cringes She is Love. It's sub Take That.
What bothers me though is Liam's voice is just being wasted. The songs aren't written to bring out it's force and then beyond that it's covered in effects because they want to be mass market, and it's all so...safe. There's songs where sounds like two different people singing and not in a good way.
Basically, this is not how a Liam Gallagher record should sound. People will get arsey, but what's wrong with wanting better? I'm saying I believe Liam can do a lot better than this. Unfortunately I think he has people around him who have him in a straitjacket.
Oh for an album of songs like Scorpio Rising...if it never happens it'll be a tragedy. After my second listen to this Greedy Soul followed up on Spotify, and you know, it's never sounded so refreshing.

I am not a fan of the production so ehow. It sounds too retro. As you were sounded fresher somehow and I think I get the feeling from why me why not a lot of people had gotten from DGSS. The songs would have deserved a better sound. Give stuff like the title track the treatment "it doesnt have to be that way" got. For me some songs have a demo feeling or a bit that heathe chemistry vibe (hung in a bad place)

There are no songs on it that I actually dislike, unlike most post-Be Here Now Gallagher albums. Shockwave sounds t like a computer programme has written a "rock n roll" Liam Gallagher song. I like the "played the game" bridge bit. Okay song. Halo is okay, I love the very end. Reminds me of a not so good 66/67 Stones song. Be Still is growing on me but it's still a bit Beady Eye ROCK(but better). Gone- I like it but it just doesn't quite get to where it's trying to get to. It's a shame because the album good have done with a big bang finish. Sort of feel the same about Meadow.

Not a ranking to hand out lightly but Liam deserves a 10 for this effort. No quality drop in the extras, either. Only strength upon strength this album.

The first thing that sprang to mind while listening to this was how coincidental it was that both of the brothers last releases, starting with a W, having a ? on the name and being a 4-word acronym were probably the most joyous both have sounded in, what, 20 years?
This, of course, is absolute bullshit. However, it's nice to see how Why Me? Why Not. improves over its predecessor, even if by a thin margin. I'm still unsure about a lot of its production, even though I'm used to the ultracompressing and vocals overediting by now; and I'm just as unsure about that as I am about the tracklisting. Once again, just like it happened to As You Were, this feels more like a collection of songs than an album experience – part of the package when writing with multiple people in multiple sessions, I guess. Overall, I gotta say, this record already feels more definitive. Its lows aren't as low as, say, I Get By or Universal Gleam, and while some could claim its highs aren't as high as Bold or I've All I Need, I'd personally like to disagree. Plus, there's just more variety here. And it comes for good.
I give Why Me? Why Not. a 7.5/10.
1. Shockwave This felt massive when it came out but, unfortunately, out of Liam's entire solo output, it's now the one that's aged the worst for me. It just sounds... dull. A tad overdone, a tad clunky. There seems to be a disconnection between the verses and the bridges. Might be my least favourite song on the album – I find myself skipping it almost every single time –, but it's not a BAD song. It's... meh. 6.5/10
2. One of Us A breath of fresh air, thankfully. It's got such a nice groove to it... I find myself humming the chorus constantly. The outro is one of my favourite bits on the record. A nice little tune and I gotta give Andrew Wyatt credit. 7.5/10
3. Once I loved it when I heard it on As It Was, wasn't 100% sure when it finally came out but now I really like it. It's just gorgeous. The chorus melody might be one of the strongest things Liam has sang over the last decade. I can't ignore the fact production sounds quite lazy and it's literally the demo sped up, but the melody on this is just so strong and Liam's delivery feel emotional at the right amount. 8/10
4. Now That I've Found You This is delicious pop, bouncy guitars, karaoke singalong-y music. Loved it from the moment I heard and it's definitely my personal favourite. It's wonderful to see Liam singing with/about joy. I missed it. 8.5/10
5. Halo Ehm... it's a grower, that's for sure. I like it gets a bit too mad at times and the chorus melody (especially the "I could get a little better..." part) is quite good. Still, not one I'll be coming back to a lot and definitely one I'll skip most of the time, and it's getting nowhere close any of my playlists. 6/10
6. Why Me? Why Not. Mixed feelings on this one. The moment Liam starts singing (and the entirety of the first verse I think) I kinda cringe a little bit. Not into it. THEN bridge and chorus kick in and it's absolutely epic. Catchy as fuck. The instrumentation is really nice on this track. How is Liam singing this live though? He already gave up the falsetto on Bold... 7.5/10
7. Be Still The I Get By/You Better Run moment of the album, except it's overproduced for some reason. Why keep the vocals so unnatural? It's gonna be nice live and we all know Liam's gonna shout the hell out of it. Still I like it's energy and "my mama said... keep moving!" is pretty catchy. So 6.5/10
8. Alright Now Woah. I don't think I've ever felt THAT Beatlesy listening to the Gallagher brothers. And I absolutely love it. This sounds tight, wrapped up, and Liam's calm delivery just fits. I can't care less about the lyrics – in fact I really like them, despite being "about" Liam or not. Another personal favourite. 8/10
9. Meadow Meh-dow anyone? Not feeling this too much, even though I've caught the chorus running in my head a couple of times. The guitar solo and the general vibe of this tune are its highlights. Thanks, George. 6/10
10. The River Another grower since it came out. Weirdly fits the 10th position on the tracklisting. Really like this one. Even the delayed vocals on the chorus have grown on me. Nice album track. 7/10
11. Gone Completely unexpected. I remember people talking strings and spoken word and that + the sole title led me to believe this was gonna be a slow number. How wrong I was. Belter! Someone said it's Liam's "The Man Who Built The Moon" and I like to think of it that way. Works well closing the standard edition. 8/10
The bonus tracks are nice, Misunderstood being an obvious highlight – it could very well have replaced Meadow in the tracklisting –, but I don't feel like actually ranking them. Glimmer is silly, catchy and joyous and Invisible Sun is just extremely meh.
I can see some of these tunes sticking with me for a long long time and I'm just very happy about that. Can't wait for the Unplugged. Such a nice time to be an Oasis fan! ~
