I read on the BBC entertainment pages the other day that they reckon that other music festivals could go ahead this year but I doubt it very much. It said that Glastonbury is a different ball game to other festivals but I don't see how. And, I guess that the festivals which Liam was due to play at this year will probably be rolled over to next year.

Well, Glasto has a shitload of acts on the bill, the BBC website basically showing everything live, it's one of the most well-recognised festivals in the world and takes place at the end of june I reckon smaller festivals planned for late summer still hold a chance to go ahead, maybe with a reduced capacity, although it's very slim one

A reduced capacity maybe ok but obviously it's hard to say if it'll be ok or not.

I think Glasto cancelling is the start of the end of gigs in 2021. Also- the 1975 have already said they're not gonna be doing anything, and basically that's gonna continue to happen (they're the only arena level band I've seen doing it so far). Usually the big summer shows are on sale for the Christmas market, and there's not that much buzz. I think the best thing this summer will be support your local boutique festivals, if they're going ahead. Less travel, smaller numbers, boost for local traders, food vendors etc. I thought Glastonbury would be the first indication of how things are going to go this year but to plays devils advocate it isn't exactly any other festival. The setting up needs to happen on a huge scale way before. I think there is still hope for smaller ones yet. Load of bands have very balanced itineraries- booking agencies will mean a lot of these festivals depend on blocking out bands. I know Glastonbury does sit slightly outside this but not from the logistics side. Find a small festival close to home with local bands. Buy locally brewed beer/spirits and eat at the local food trucks. That's the 2021 plan, if it happens. The fact that the government have said that England is gonna locked down into the next financial year would indicate to me that 1- they're way behind in their vaccination programme and 2- there's not gonna be any major improvement for about 6 months. Before you get 40,000 people in a field you have to go a long way to build up confidence in lots of the general population, especially after the fact that Eat Out to Help Out was followed by another lockdown.

Before you get 40,000 people in a field you have to go a long way to build up confidence in lots of the general population, especially after the fact that Eat Out to Help Out was followed by another lockdown. In general, infection rates are so high in England (and many other countries) right now that it will take some time to bring them down, even with a good vaccine and strong vaccine acceptance (that part remains to be seen), to where it would be wise from a public health POV to cram people together closely. That's part of the reason that those countries that didn't follow the whole let-the-disease-run-rampant-and-we'll-cope strategy are going to be in a far stronger position through 2022. (Aside from having more importantly protected their elders and vulnerable people ...) But right now I think it's still super hard to predict even a ballpark date on "normal" live arena shows, large festivals, etcetera. In my business (movies) some think late summer, some think fall, some think likely 2022 for full relaxation of crowd restrictions. There are too many variables for me to wager, though. The only thing that seems certain is that it won't be before then. And for sure, smaller stuff will return first.

Yeah, I agree with you. The problem is with this virus is that we still don't know enough about it as they keep finding different strains as well. And, they still don't know just how effective the vaccines actually are. So I think it will be a while yet before we can get back to a reasonable back to normal again.
