Maybe it's been discussed before, and I know I'm gonna be in the minority here, but I really don't see the point of Liam doing Sad Song, unless of course it's (yet another) dig at Noel. It's a Noel written song and well-known also as sung by Noel, so what is he trying to prove singing it? He's got plenty of Oasis songs with his trademark voice in it, if what he wants is to bring some Oasis songs live. I find it rather sad, and I don't think Noel cares anyway. Anyone pictures Noel doing Songbird in his set? I don't think so. That said, I think he sings it greatly. But then again, he might as well do an awesome version of U2's One, he's just a great singer. I don't really think its a dig, as someone else said it was mentioned to him on Twitter off the back of the Supersonic documentary. I think he's just more willing to give anything a go these days.

I can't imagine being an Oasis fan and finding something negative to say about the bands singer doing a new version of a classic b side that no ones heard before.

In bits watching that. This is the guy whose band flopped horribly but in a really slow, drawn out and sad to watch way, whose one massive talent seemed to have deserted him, who was on a downward spiral into angry self parody and fuck knows where. Cheers, Bonehead and Paul. We got Our Kid back. You get it. Perfectly put...

I believe I'm a massive Oasis fan, I was the first excited when I first heard about him singing Sad Song. I just question the motivation on doing it now, and if they're positive or negative. The demo of 1994 is something that really made sense back then, and that's what I'd love to listen to. I just wish Liam would move on from some Oasis and Noel stuff that he doesn't seem to let go, I don't think he needs it anymore.

He will let it go, it will be replaced at some point for something else. Its a song I think he loves singing and as it isn't a dig in my opinion and a bit of fan service, I think its great he's doing it.

We're different mate if Liam covers a Noel song well I'm all for it because I'm just about the music.

I thought Sad Song was always awesome in its original studio presentation (only one we knew for 20+ years) but I also LOVE what Liam has done with the tune. It’s a win win for everyone. Rejoice.

Sad Song unplugged was great......
Líam should start covering Noël's solo songs now, that would really piss him off....
Everybody's On The Run and Dream On immediately come to mind.
Thanks.

He should “cover” Noel’s debut. Half that album was probably written with him in mind anyways. - Everybody’s On The Run - If I Had A Gun - Record Machine - Stranded On The Wrong Beach - Stop The Clocks - A Simple Game Of Genius

Went for a walk on Saturday so decided to listen to some of the MTV unplugged on my headphones. I’m not afraid to admit I got goosebumps hearing the Oasis songs that he did during the show. It’s funny how songs can take you back to another time and place and I felt transported back to the 90’s for just a brief few minutes listening to those songs. As much as I loved Noel’s version of MTV Unplugged and have fond memories of it, I always wondered what it may have been like if Liam was there and performed. That will never happen but this is about as close as we will get to that moment. Liam’s voice was spectacular, the solo album songs were great and the Oasis songs were incredible. Stand By Me has always been one of my favorite Oasis songs so to hear it with Liam on vocals and a full orchestra behind him blew me away. Champagne Supernova with piano and backing orchestra was just as good. Some Might Say and Cast No Shadows equally as mind blowing. Then you have Sad Song, really no words describing that one, the song and performance just speak for themselves.
The atmosphere, the venue, and to have Bonehead there, it was a magical night for Liam and one that the fans will never forget. A chance for a bit of redemption after all the drama of the first MTV Unplugged and I feel like he hit it out of the park. As much as I love Liam and Noel and Oasis, I don’t believe that 5 years ago I could have seen any of this happen for Liam. And yet here he is, two solo albums and an epic MTV Unplugged performance and his voice seems to have returned. The first time I’ve been this excited about music since the old Oasis days. Come on Liam, you’re making me have a mid-life crisis here! Keep on keeping on my friend.

Ou i would so fuckin love that. Some songs of that record were the last good stuff noel wrote, but still i could not enjoy it without the proper voice.

Now that he's done Sad Song, let's move onto other Noel-sung songs which had Liam-sung demos, i.e. Step Out. And possibly Lord Don't Slow Me Down, although that would show up Shockwave for the poor imitation that it is.

Definitely the stand out of the performance for me as well. Took me right back to the fall of 1997. Though it is definitely yet another song that really misses Noel's backing vocals. You don't realize how much they add to the songs until they aren't there .

Wow that is crazy to write out actually. Never knew Liam also attempted Step Out. Or maybe I just forgot it.

I always thought it'd be hilarious (and great) if Liam covered NGHFB's and Chasing Yesterday and just put them out on youtube. The fans would absolutely love it.

He should sing the chorus of Why Me? Why Not. in falsetto rather than shouting it. The reason it works so well on record is because the sweetness of his voice is a release of the tension that’s built up in the verses when he’s pushing his chest voice.
I’ve said this before, but Liam should drop his punk bullshit and SING songs—or bits of songs—that call for it. Don’t shout everything. It’s not “rock ‘n’ roll;” it’s just daft.

I think he would do it if he was confident in it. It’s the sort of thing I imagine that is a lot easier to do and control in a studio than live. I don’t get the stuff about the ‘punk bullshit’ I think he doing more singing now than he’s ever done.

Perhaps less so now than when at his nadir, but he’s definitely still shouting (like a poor man’s Johnny Rotten) a fair amount. It doesn’t sound good, or cool, ESPECIALLY on the ballads.
