It's one to just put on and press play and listen to it in its entirety. I like it.

I think Mirrorball sets the tone for what to expect within the album as a whole, probably why they dropped that one first.
If they come out with Sculptures or Hello You first, then that sets very different expectations for what the rest of the album might sound like.
But for me Body Paint should have been the first release.

No point posting it twice edit - feels weird posting in a thread that is clearly out of date, we're on the 7th album now after all?

4 stages of me falling in love with Tranquility Base. It took me like four months 🤣 Weather is great again, maybe that is the problem with The Car atm 🤣 28°C/83°F tomorrow 🤣 Definitely a album that won't please anyone expecting riff's and big anthems, this is a album that needs repeated listening. But for sure it's another notch for Turner and Co, you can tell he listened to a lot of Bowie, Cohen, Gainsbourg and the Beatles when writing this. But that's why I love the Monkey's, they don't give a damn about expectations but follow their own muse. It's made them a more interesting band for it. But you have to admire the balls to come back with a album like this after the huge success of AM. I'm on my 3 listen of it, so I give a more in depth review later. But overall so far I'm pleased with what I hear. This is exactly what I think about this album, great post. They are letting us into their little world more than ever. If you like it great, if you don't, we don't give a shit. And I don't like it and I don't feel it atm. I'm in the different mood right now, weather is great etc. I listened to it twice and found out that I was just wasting my time because I just don't feel it right now but I don't think its bad. I will give this album another chance in autumn. I like: - that people are talking about this album. Last album brought them popularity all over the world and now even some people that you would never expect to talk about some new rock album, are talking about it. I like to think ( pretend) that new rock record is important especially because I never felt that feeling and I am always imagining what it was like to follow all the hype when Sgt. Pepper was released or Dark Side of the Moon or Morning Glory...To talk with your friends about it, to discuss this new album that came out. - some weird lyrics and melodies. Whether is good or bad, again I like that people are talking about it and that it won't leave you indifferent. It's like howling dog in Pink Floyd's song, maybe its shite but its now part of pop culture and people are talking about it. - that even if I still don't like this album, some parts of songs and some lyrics are stucked in my head. SHE-LOOKS-LIKE-FUN! Technological advanceeees , really bloody get me in the moooooooood... I just wanted to be one of The Strokes Now look at the mess you made me make... And I never thought, not in a million year, that I'd meet so many Lolas... What do you mean you've never seen Blade Runner?
Again, there is lot to talk about, make memes... - that they send one big FUCK OFF to everyone who became fan because of Do I Wanna Know. I'm sure that they had some great offers after AM and that there were people convinsing them that they can be new Coldplay or Maroon 5. This could be a record with Miley Cyrus guest appearances and stuff like that, so big respect to the boys because they made this kind of record. I don't like: - that all those thing that I wrote that I like, doesn't change the fact that I feel that Alex is going in circles as a songwriter. I can see him in his bathrobe at 2am, doing his Elvis impression and writing Number One Party Anthem for the 20th time. Thats how I feel this album was made. I think that I've listened this album more than any AM album. Not sure why though. It still keeps getting better.

It's a great album. Simple as that. Alex Turner is a great songwriter who is constantly evolving and trying new things. He isn't trying to write Artic Monkeys by numbers songs (cough cough Heathen Chemistry) and is a guy pushing 40 trying new things that he likes.
My only issue with the new sound is that it doesn't play to the strengths of the musicians in the band. Jamie is a great indie rock guitarists and Helders is possibly one of the best drummers out there.

This is a very special album, but I think you have to be in a very specific mood to get into it. Sure, there aren't any obvious singles like Do I Wanna Know, but it's such a rewarding listen from start to finish.
I can't agree with people saying this feels like a sequel for TBHC, that record was a big letdown for me and never really got it, I always felt it sounds kind of forced, like Alex was trying so hard to not sound like Arctic Monkeys, writing in character and all that.
But The Car just hits another level. It feels like a much honest album, really exploring nostalgia in a very clever way, it sounds like they had a lot of fun in the studio creating it. I'm so glad they keep evolving and aren't trying to create FWN part 2.
My top 5 at the moment:
- Body Paint - Big Ideas - Mirrorball - Sculptures of anything goes - Perfect Sense
Right now the only weak song for me it's The Car, I love the production but the song feels unfinished, like he didn't know how to get it somewhere and relied too much on the orchestra to make it interesting enough.

It feels like 85% of the songs they're making now are about Alex feeling depressed despite dating a supermodel. Even when the lyrics are clearly not about that at all, those are just the vibes all the time.

105 000 chart units at the midweek mark. Fantastic result, second best this year but they will not have a number one album.
Good thing is that Noel is safe now.

The Car passed "a drive through the countryside on a sunny day" test and it sounded really good actually. I enjoyed the sound and the feel but still think that songs are not good enough.
And still can't stand that song from Jackie Chan's movie. Yes, I am talking about Hello You.
It is 3.5 stars ouut fiiiveee. That's the best I can do.

This album feels more like a sequel to SIAS than anything else. The guitars aren't too heavy and Alex is a bit more romantic with his lyrics. The best thing about the Arctic Monleys (and the thing that makes me laugh with their casual fans) is they don't have a sound at all. Every single album is different. The only two that sound similar ar the first two - but even that is a stretch. Turner is an absolute genius creatively - the nearest thing to Bowie we have ever had.

Even when the lyrics are clearly not about that at all, those are just the vibes all the time. I didn't watch any of their interviews before but it looks like Alex is kinda autist. That condition can worsen as you get older, i have a friend a bit like that. The music reflects that a bit, i think (in a good way, it's not criticism). But the songs sound like someone who is trying to escape from something, that's for sure. Fame, people, himself... whatever, but something. I doubt dating a superficial supermodel is the solution for him. It can look nice on the outside, but that guy clearly has nothing to do with those women.

I don't think there's any evidence to say Alex is autistic, and I've watched lots of his interviews, specially in this album cycle. I just think he's a bit quirky with a twisted sense of humor, he clearly loves exploting his weird side. And in my opinion this isn't a sad record. There's this theme about don't belonging to a place and also some kind of undefined nostalgia, very reflective but definitely not sad. It always sounds to me like someone who is comfortable in that position, observing and contemplating but not like a "I need to scape this hell" situation.

Gotta try weird theories until Liam returns 😂 but really it’s discussed on Reddit about him so it’s not that farfetched.
On another note, early AM has some good moments But as a whole I can’t get into their most of their records. Bar the debut which is probably perfect from start to finish.
Main example for me is Piledriver Waltz. Such a magical song on the submarine EP, just meh on Suck it and See.

He definitely speaks slower than he used to for sure, which is bound to leak into the new music. Was watching Glastonbury 2013 recently and there's a notable difference to how he spoke then to how he speaks now. Can't seem to get his words out in recent interviews. Not sure the reason though, just getting older most likely. Also was gonna agree on Piledriver Waltz but having just listened to both I think the Suck it and See version has better drum and bass lines going on, and it's such a good song it deserved the full treatment.

Yeah it needed to be played to broader audience too, since it's an amazing song, but i still prefer the Submarine one, it has more "feelings". something has been lost on the AM version. Like when an artist says the demo sounded better. This is it. The Car is on pause today, listening to the big brother instead : Everything you've come to expect. Close, close sibblings.

That record omg. Keeps getting better
Listening to it right now and cant wait to listen to it again. WTF.
Funny because if Noel had dug into the Alone on the Rope territory he could have made such a record. Shame.
