Chris Martin is a vastly more talented songwriter than Turner. Shite singer too. Even I wouldn't go that far. But is he the dullest songwriter of his generation? Quite possibly.

Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino is way better than Who Built the Moon. Whether it has choruses or not. Easily. In a different league altogether to WBTM. As in, a lower league? It's all opinion but I'd much rather listen to WBTM. I think it's got better songs on it, by far - and I don't think WBTM is perfect by any means. I do like TBHC and I'm happy they've gone with something different. But a lot of the songs bore me - and they're only 3 minutes long. I'm not a fan of Turner's crooning or the lounge lizard style he's gone for across the whole album. If there was a bit more variety I'd probably think differently, but it's effectively all the same bar 4 out of 5 and a few brief moments in the other songs - i.e. Science Fiction, She Looks Like Fun.

Coldplay have just come off the back of the third-highest grossing tour in history. There's a reason for that. I don't like or dislike Coldplay. I simply don't care. But I won't dispute that Martin is an excellent songwriter, because he clearly is. Alex Turner is also excellent, which is why it's strange he didn't write a few more choruses for this album

It’s quite surprising that they haven’t gone down the pop route that Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Train, Muse, etc went down. I would’ve thought this new album would have been even more accessible than AM, but it isn’t at all Muse didn't really go pop. They just aren't as good as they were About choruses. I don't really care. Song can be good with or without them and this album is good without themThis is true. The album works, in its own way. I just think it could have been better had there been a bit more variation. It all sounds the same bar a few moments and the first time I listened to it (admittedly after a few beers and at around midnight) I was close to drifting off until Four Out Of Five came on.

Chris Martin has written about five genuinely good songs in his career. Maybe one or two more, but definitely less than ten. Don’t Panic Yellow Trouble The Scientist Clocks Moses Fix You Til Kingdom Come Viva La Vida Charlie Brown

The more I listen to TBHC the more I love it. Could be their best and most enjoyable to listen Lp. I’m addicted.

On the title track at about 2:43 and the next following seconds it sounds EXACTLY like a bit from a Pink Floyd song, but I can't remember which one. Can anybody help me out with this urgent matter?

But then again Chris Martin never wrote something as cool and rocking as Pretty Visitors or Brianstorm
Not really comparable

Alright. That's enough. Bugger off out this thread if all you're gonna do is drone about some other band. You're wasting space.

Coldplay went the Maroon 5 route after Viva la Vida, Turner is doing the opposite currently which is far more interesting. Coldplay is garbage fast food that you enjoy for a second but never think of again and Arctic Monkeys always have something more to chew on for repeated listenings. Is Martin a good melodist? Of course, but he wants to be a pop star and written stuff for teenage girls. That's not interesting in the slightest when you get to a certain age and aren't into that type of thing. What Turner did, and really it's a Turner solo record in everything but name, is galling at first listen but sticks in your head in its own way and actually makes you want to listen to it again, rather than being annoyed that sweet as shit song that makes your teeth hurt to listen to it again type of tune that Martin writes (or co-writes?) these days does. Night and day difference between the two.

Night and day difference between the two. That's a few good points and I agree entirely. In my opinion, I prefer Alex Turner and Arctic Monkeys over Coldplay. But, I won't deny Chris Martin knows how to write one hell of a catchy pop song either - and there's a reason Coldplay are one of the biggest in the world. I'm not massively enthused about TBHC - I just think it's a decent album that could have been great had it had a bit more variety.

I don't even like the Arctic Monkeys but I like reading this thread....However, I did actually put their new album on 'hold' at the library because Beady’s Here Now doesn't like it, which means it must be good. Thanks.

It's decent enough. Sounds a bit like The Eagles doing lounge jazz at some points.
Odd change of direction for them. Their last album basically established them in America so I was expecting something a bit more commercial-sounding. Good that he's branching out I suppose, there's enough shit pop songs on the radio (or whatever the kids use these days) already.

Four out of Five will be getting a lot of play on Radio X etc, but other than that there's not too many radio-friendly songs on there. Four Out Of Five is the only one, and even that's a bit long
