He may be seen as the bad boy of Britpop, but Liam Gallagher spent a lot of time apologising to people in his life this year on his debut solo record.Liam Gallagher has made 2017 his year of redemption.
First there was the surprise solo album, then the remorseful content of the album and now a potential truce with his brother Noel.
His debut solo record, As You Were, was a top ten hit around the world including in Australia and Gallagher had some moments of real repentance on the record.
"The songs that I wrote on there I had to dig deep on them," Gallagher told AAP.
"It was an apologetic kind of record but once that's done now I wouldn't want to be going back there next time because you can only say sorry so many times and if people don't get it f*** 'em. Hopefully the next one will be a bit more, like, unapologetic."
Despite the recent rumours of reconciliation with his brother Noel after eight years of feuding, none of those apologies were directed towards his brother.
"There was no sorrys to me brother because I've got nothing to be sorry to him about. Everyone goes 'oh yeah, about Noel?' But f*** him, there's nothing to be sorry about. If anyone should be apologising, it should be him," he said.
He says it's his children, and his mother, he wanted to apologise to.
"I was saying sorry for maybe lots of things. F*****g up. You know, my kids, I've caused them a lot of pain over the years, me Mam and stuff. Just things like that really," he said.
"There was a bit for four years when I didn't see them (his children) for a bit, which was rightly so ... they were probably hearing lots of stuff. But that's been sorted now so now they're back and they know that I'm not a bad person so it's all good."
The album came as a surprise to Gallagher, who was actually considering stepping away from music.
"I was planning on not bothering any more and then all of a sudden, whatever it is that makes you do things in life, whether it's the universe or whatever, I just picked up the guitar and started playing it and a couple of songs came to me," he said.
He's already booked studio time in April to start work on more music but his focus has been on the tour, which has gone down well in the UK.
In a week he'll be in Australia touring as a headliner for Falls Festival and for sold out sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne, but not before a well-earned break.
"If someone asked me to sing now I reckon I'd cry. I'm f****d. I need a bit of a break over Christmas and then I'm on that plane out there and then I think we'll be up for it man, I can't wait."
*Liam Gallagher will perform at Falls Festival around the country from December 30 and will play Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on January 4 and Melbourne's Festival Hall on January 5.
