I started learning the bass years ago and I remember having a piece of software on my computer that played real songs and allowed you to remove certain instruments so you could play along.
I was learning bass so I used to remove the bass part and just have the guitars and drums playing.
Does anyone know if this software still exists? Learning guitar now so it'd be useful to play songs I'm learning with a full 'band'.
Cheers

It's difficult to do and sometimes doesn't produce good results. There's a trick of inverting the phase and mono mixing to isolate certain parts but if that sounds like jargon, the best and easiest way of doing this is by finding a multitrack. They're usually in .mogg format. Some are even on YouTube.
Fortunately, because of the Rock Band series of games, a lot of rock guitar multitracks are out there from many bands, a few bits of early Oasis stuff too, but certainly not the back catalogue. I use Reaper (free) plus Amplitube and Guitar Rig (not free) to record things when I can be bothered. I usually just play along with songs through it. Audacity is also free and easy to use.
Here is my shot at replacing/copying the Live Forever solo:

Thanks mate.
I definitely remember a program though because I was playing bass, my mate played rhythm guitar and we just removed those parts from this software so it just left the drums and lead.
It wasn't the actual track, just a computerised version of it.

It's alright - got it. It's called guitar pro. Has anyone ever used this? Not sure whether to get the app or the proper program.
I think the former might be hard to get tabs for though.
