All I know is when people throw out the term "classic" or "masterpiece" on day 1, it probably isn't. Those would be the two overused words on here. That and "it's shit" This goes for all bands. Not just Noel and Liam.

I was quick to judge this one earlier. It's a really good song and I think will do quite well on the radio. It may not be a rocker, but it's a beautiful song with very good lyrics and smooth vocals from Liam. 8/10

Fun fact : The same people who say it's a masterpiece will call Liam's solo debut a major failure in a few years.
I like it. It is a bit poppy, but at the same time it's interesting to see Liam in this new enviroment. Co-writers, poppy ballads, loads of press etc. He seems to be enjoying it so far and doing well. The record will be fun to listen i guess. Nothing to moan about so far.
I was actually thinking today. If this would happened in the 90's, Oasis split up and Liam becoming a solo artist with co writers. Wow, it could have been awful, but it could have been great at moments.

7, good we tune.... But Don't Brother Me Redux, innit. As You Were, indeed. Another song that sounds cool but lyrics are fucking beyond awful. I actually don't know which song you're talking about - Don't Brother Me or For What It's Worth (Or Both?), and that in itself is quite shockingly telling.

And yes, that did actually happen.

it's boring. it's not one step removed from the beady eye years. the beat goes on part 2.
liam clearly chose the wrong people to work with. he should have asked alex turner or richard hawley or really someone who would give him a completely new, interesting direction to write songs for him. right now it looks like that he's just doing the same thing again, but with different people.

The more i listen to it, the more i put it apart from WoG and Chinatown. The song actually develops during it´s duration unlike WoG which despite being catchy and what he needed to kick start his solo career, it´s kinda of a loop of the same beat for it´s entirety. I don´t expect it to have the success WoG had, because it´s not as catchy and mainstream but musical wise, for me it´s a better developed song.

I don't get the point about the poor writing... to me the song it's so oasis and it could have been one of the noel-ish ballads.

He's doing what the label want, and he probably wants too. At the end of the day, he's been signed as Liam Gallagher and their target audience are dedicated fans, people who used to attend Oasis concerts and know the Oasis classics and the music they are releasing are a reflection of that. Personally i'd like to see him go with people like Death In Vegas again but in the end he's not going to become that relevant into todays music world, or become very credible as an artist regardless of what he puts out. He'll just be Liam from Oasis and the label know it, so they're just tapping into his captured audience. They know if they release an album of this kind of generic stuff and have a few tracks with a bit of an Oasis kind of vibe stuff, it will sell X amount of records and that's all they care about. Just the way of the major label world today, they don't care one jot whether it's musically interesting or not and basically they will have the final say.

Verses aren't too bad, chrous is brutal and musically clichéd. Musically cliched - on an Oasis board? It's dreadful mate, seriously.

It's pleasant. That's the best I can say. At worst, sounds extremely derivative and I might as well go and listen to the Beatles solo albums though.
From the others I've heard, I like Wall Of Glass, Chinatown and Paper Crown a lot lot more though.

8/10 I love it!
Reminds me of ELO - and not just for the strings.
Verse melody is Lynne/Petty esque!

10/10 I absolutely loved it from the first listen, it stuck in my head after one play. Great melody, great lyrics, great voice. It is unlikely to work live because it's a very high key for Liam, but it's a great recording of a great song. And yes it is a GREAT song IMO.

Not to keen on that track at the moment, mainly because of the production which is far too lush & generic, it doesn't suit Liam I think, it's more for more bland singers like Robbie Williams indeed.
"Wall of glass" remains the best single so far; "Chinatown" is more interesting as well because it sounds more intimate, it doesn't try to sweep large like "For what it's worth" does.
With a rockier production in the style of "Wall of glass" "For what it's worth" would've been more memorable, the strings are too smooth & take any edge off it, & Liam Gallagher is blunt, not safe. The live version sounds better without the strings.
Commercially I guess it's a smart move to reach the mainstream with this radio-friendly ballad, I hope the song will chart well, within the top 20.
This is my impression after 6-7 listens of the song within a day, maybe it'll evolve with time, but at the moment the more I listen to it, the more the production bothers me. The song itself is alright, though.

Musically cliched - on an Oasis board? It's dreadful mate, seriously. Have to agree unfortunately. For me this is the weakest song so far. Wall of Glass is still a great debut single for Liam, Chinatown is a nice little tune. This one needed a good chorus.

The middle eight is definitely ELO-ish, but the more immediate reference that came to mind is George Harrison's "When We Was Fab", which was of course produced by Jeff Lynne.
