Here's a thread to talk about anything related to travels. You want to ask informations about a particular place, you wanna share some of your travels, then this thread is for you
+ a little poll bonus.

England, Tunisia and Turkey are my votes.
England because I had heard lots of stuff about that country but I never visited London until I was 16. I liked it a lot, went to Championship game, Queen musical and visited many tourist attractions. And I'm still 50% sure I saw Eden Hazard walking in the pavement. I really like the culture (language and behaviour) and I flew there again a year later. I have to visit other cities some day so my knowledge won't be limited only to London.
I was quite young when I went to Tunisia so I don't remember everything but it was very different from other countries. I even rode camels and donkeys! Turkey is my third vote because I've been there 6 or 7 times.
I love travelling and discovering new countries. Supporting Finnish national team is a good chance to visit some more rare countries. I didn't go to Ukraine couple of months ago but depending if I have money I'll go to Ukraine this summer to play football in supporters tournament. I'd fly to Poland and go to Lviv with a bus.
Other "exotic" country is Albania/Kosovo, Finland away game of course. My friend already planned flying to Belgrade and continue from there with train.

Wales, England, France. Also, as it's left out of the poll, Malta! That was quite memorable as well.

My favorite experiences listed in chronological order: - Tunisia: I went there with my parents when I was 12 years old. We spent a week hiking in the Sahara desert (and we visited an oasis ) with a group of people and local guides. So it was a great experience not necessarily because of the country itself but because it was awesome being cut from civilisation for a week, riding camels, sleeping under the stars, etc... - U.S.A: I went to New York with my family when I was a teenager too. I think it was my favorite traveling experience. I can't list everything I loved because I basically loved everything. - Ireland: I visited a few places while I was there, from Dublin to county Mayo. I loved the people (except for one asshole bus driver), the landscapes, the pubs. I remember walking next to a pub in Dublin and everyone was singing Wonderwall inside it Honorable mention: England (York) but I went there as part of a school trip so I couldn't really appreciate it. But I loved it. I should go back there one of these days. All the people I know that came to New York told me it was great and was a must see. However ( and I don't know why ) I'm still not attracted at all. Probably have that subconsious thought some french have, that New York is too big, too cliché, with too much building. I know you said you loved everything there, but from your memories, what makes this city special ?

Argentina (what a range of incredible places, every corner of this country is different), England (for personal history and of course music interest reasons) as well as Cuba, which is not on the list.

It's funny that you mention the "too big, too much building" thing because now that I'm older, I must admit I feel a little bit like that, I don't know if I could go back and enjoy it as much, I would probably feel anxious about all the noise, the people, etc... I can be a bit agoraphobic sometimes so New York is not the best place for that. Anyway, what makes it special? Well, I don't know if it's that special (it probably is though), because I haven't been to a lot of big cities in the world so I can't really compare, but I can tell you why I fucking loved it. First of all, and it may be stupid, but it's fucking New York. When you're a kid from Europe, that's a good enough reason to be excited about it. I mean, this is the place where a lot of my favorite movies take place, where lots of great people come from, etc... Just being there is awesome. But that's not all, of course. My parents rented a cool appartment in Brooklyn, so we were not in a shitty hotel or something, that may have helped with the experience. We didn't visit Brooklyn that much, we always went to Manhattan. What I loved, mostly, is the general atmosphere of being there. Walking down the streets, the big avenues, seing the famous yellow cabs, watching street singers, hearing cops sirens , etc... One of my favorite place was Times Square at night, I can't really explain why though, I think I just loved the over-the-top-ness of it all, the big ads everywhere, the shops, etc... One of the highlights was when we went to Central Park, especially when we stopped to watch a band play some very good music, they were some kind of jazz-rock band and we bought their album. There were some really cool stuff on that album (even though it was mostly covers), and it is a shame because we don't have it anymore, we broke it or lost it or something. We also went to the Blue Note Jazz Club in Greenwhich Village one night and it was a great experience. In fact, I loved Greenwhich Village too, really nice place, at least as a tourist, but for a long time after that my dream was to live there haha. Another great place was Coney Island, just for the quietness of it compared to Manhattan (we went there the last day of our stay, so it was nice to have a little calm moment after a week spent surrounded by buildings and noise), but a very nice place on its own. I wouldn't say the people were the best, but they certainly weren't the worst. We met some very nice people especially one guy that helped us to find our way in the subway one night when we were completely lost, who was very nice (but a bit ignorant, when we said we were French, he said: "oh French? Uno, dos, tres. Is that right?" , this is the kind of shit that really pisses me off, but he was a nice guy so). But I must add we also met a couple of assholes. I probably forget a lot of other things but I already wrote a fucking lot so there you go. Of course this is all from the perspective of a tourist that was in New York only for a week, so a lot of stuff might be very different when you live there or just stay there longer than we did. And this was almost ten years ago so my memories might be biased because of nostalgia. But yeah, I loved it. Fun fact I want to add: we never visited the Empire State Building nor the Statue of Liberty. Which seems weird when I think about it now. Great to read that story, man ! In fact, it was the main reason I've made this thread: to read story of travels, anecdotes and all of that. It's always very interesting. Greenwich Village seems to be a great place as it is a place the people I know who came to NYC talk a lot about. Might go there one day, who knows

@supermario I can't sleep, so there you go: the 3 countries I've voted for are Austria, Germany and Italy, for the main reason that these are the only countries (except from France) where I've spent more than 2 hours Italy: This country is the one I've visited the most outside of France. Living in Nice until I was 9, I went a few times to Vintimilla, a little town close to the french border, but I can't remember anything about it. The first true trip I've made in Italy, was a trip in Piemonte with my family when I was 6. I can't remember most of the things (except for a restaurant in Coni and the Stadio Dell'Alpi in Torino) but I'm sure I did like it. The trip I do perfectly remember is a trip to Roma I've made with latin class when I was 14. I did hate this fucking class tbh, (a lot of assholes) and it maybe spoilt a bit this travel but I still enjoyed it. Even more now that I look back on it. I remember the 10 hours of bus before getting to that hotel 40 kms in the north of Roma. Discovering Toscana, Umbria for the first time, even if it was just on a highway. Surprisingly, I was underwhelmed for my first day in Roma. I was waiting for something more. But during the week, I've had the chance to discover almost EVERYTHING in Roma. That city has so much wonderful monuments that you can't hate it. One day, I've also visited Ostia and the "Villa D'Este" in Tivoli, which was probably my favourite day there. "Villa d'Este" is really a stunning place, absolutely gorgeous. Now that I look back on it, I really want to see Roma again in the future. Austria: I went to Austria for a 5 days trip in Vienna with my grand parents when I was 13. It was also the first time I took the plane. My first impression when I arrived is that the city looked a bit like a french one. It wasn't much of something different at first. But don't get me wrong, Vienna is fucking gorgeous, probably the most beautiful city I've went to, yet. The old city, in particular, is still an amazing memory. I've visited Mozart, Beethoven and Freud's houses, ate a shitload of apfelstruddels and discovered a shitload of museums. I also remember totally falling in love with a waitress in a restaurant. "Café Einstein" if I recall correctly. I was totally crazy in love with that girl and remeber that before we left the restaurant, she said something in german in my ears but, even though I know (knew) quite a bit of german, I did understand fuck all to what she said. I can't remember how she looks like but I do remember I was finding her gorgeous. Funny to think it's probably the first time for 3 years I think about it. All in all, Vienna was fucking great. Really. The lifestyle might be a bit expansive, but the city is just amazing. And visiting Mozart's house was quite something, I must say. Germany: This trip totally changed my life. Or more precisely, it changed the way I see life. It made a big impact in my life. I went there for an exchange student with my german class when I was 15. My penfriend was a pretty girl living with her family in a little town, 30 kms in the north of Hamburg. After two days there, I was sad as fuck. It was fucking cold, I couldn't understand most of what the family was saying to me and the place didn't look like anything else I knew. I was lost. The third day, we went to Hamburg with my class. The city was like nothing I saw before. It was industrial but still green ; urban but still looking not too big. The countryside was also very different. It felt so nordic. It's during that trip that I've also discovered the wonderful little city of Lübeck. I also remember seeing a France - Germany football game with the father of my pznfriend. The day just before coming to France, I came back to Hamburg with the family only, and it was better than first time. It was a mixed feeling though, with they joyce coming back to my family soon and the sadness to leave Germany. It's also that day, that in a restaurant, I've seen the clip of Don't Look Back In Anger for the first time. I didn't know it was "Don't Look Back In Anger" , I only knew it was by Oasis, but didn't know anything by the band. I was obsessed with wanting to know what was Oasis, without even hearing the music. The last day beforr leaving, I broke down and cried. I was actually so sad to leave that place, the familly. My penfriend came to France one month after that and it did remind of all the feelings I got there. One year after that, I've discovered "Oasis" and couldn't believe it was reminding of that particular. I was feeling the same melancholy from those songs that from the landscapes I had seen there. It was just fucking addictive. If I never did go to Hamburg would I have became the Oasis fan I am now ? Maybe not. So, yeah, I loved these 3 trips. They all gave me something new, in particular the ones in Germany and Austria, and it was really different from our culture. The one I am the most nostalgic about is the trip in Germany. Sorry for the big, big post

Great thread, hard question. I think every single country is worth a visit. I love south america but also african countries like Uganda, Rwanda, DR Congo were fascinating, also asian countries. Countries I still wanna go before I'm 40 Somalia, Japan, Australia. Somalia cause I'm a bit weird and also go to countries where 99% of the people would never go (Kabul is lovely btw, North Korea not so much ). Japan might be done this year. The country and the culture always fascinated me but somehow I never made it there. And an Australia trip I am planning for years already but same as Japan I never made it yet. In europe I guess my favorite country will always be Austria, the only thing missing there is a sea, but they have lovely lakes.

Nice, so according to Ian Brown we have got that in common with Manchester. My favorite cities, the ones where I felt so happy without really understanding why, and almost felt at home, are Berlin, Cardiff and Manchester. And the most beautiful places I have seen so far where both in Wales, St. Davids and Aber Falls near Abergwyngregyn. That was totally undescribable, what I felt being there.

But I stopped taking Latin class a couple of years before the trip because it just bored the shit out of me at the time and I had crap grades. But I would love to go to Rome one day, especially because now I study History and I love Ancient Rome and all that stuff. That was a really nice story. It felt like reading your origin story. And now I know why you chose that username. I knew it was a city but I assumed it meant something else because I thought it was weird to have a city as a username. Now it all makes sense . Also, who won that football game? I was fucking bored with latin, aswell. I stopped an year after that trip. It was Germany, 2-1. Valbuena scored, with a header

Interesting, Helsinki-London-Helsinki flights + sleeping 4 nights in a hostel (4 star reviews and really popular) would cost total 170€. Does anyone have experience of sleeping in hostel dorms (in this case with 9 people)? I dunno, it just sounds really exciting. Of course I'd prefer sleeping alone in a hotel room but 4 nights in London for 56€ is really good deal! Plus, I've already spent the last 4 months sleeping in a dorm with 12 "random" people in the army so it's not anything new to me Oh and I'm not going to Serbia after all so I might have some extra money to spend.

It sounds so pathetically bias and parochial but there really is no better place in the world for me than going to the north west Highlands in Scotland. Most remote region you can ever get to in the UK so you're not going to get access to wifi or five star hotels but there's many decent holiday cottages scattered around the most stunning scenery the UK has to offer. Very wild and rugged, it's the most mystical and peaceful place on earth. My family originates from the crofting heritage and clan culture there, particularly the county Sutherland so there's very much sentiment at play here - though if it helps, it was a place very close to the heart of John Lennon who spent many childhood holidays there (small village of Durness) and partly inspired In My Life. That he continued to write to the local people up until his death is testament to the profound impact the place had on him.

The best places I've been to are Japan(love the place) and for scenery Ushuaia and Terra Del Fuego in Argentina and Alaska where the scenery is just incredible . Worst is India, just can't take the litter and rubbish lying around and Mumbai's crazyness.

I have amazing trip coming. Just bought these flights with 2 friends: Helsinki -> Budapest 3.9.2017. Going to see Hungary - Portugal. Budapest - Pristina 4.9.2017. It'll be nice to see Kosovo. From there I'll travel to Shkoder, Albania to see Finland - Kosovo game. After that I'll travel to Podgorica, Montenegro where will be my next flight. Podgorica -> Stockholm 7.9.2017 Stockholm -> Helsinki 7.9.2017 Those 4 flights cost total 170€, not bad We'll probably use Airbnb so it's cheap staying there.

Have you decided where and when you're going there? I've been wanting to visit Poland too. Right now I'm having a small crisis with my life. My job takes away all my free time and social life, and I don't like it at all. I'm not very depressed but it's just sad that I'm wasting my life like that. And even if I had more free time I still feel like this town doesn't offer me enough. I want to get out. I'd like to make a longer trip to UK but it's quite expensive. I liked Balkans a lot and could afford being there little bit longer but I'm not sure if I want to go there alone.

I lack of money because I spent quite a lot to buy some recordings gears that, actually, aren't working, so I'm a bit disappointed. But if I could, I'd go to Warsaw cos' it seems to be a beautiful city.
