Well this is only Peter Hook's version of events, although in fairness it sounds like something Potts would do Also changing the arrangement of Wonderwall didn't stop Noel loving it with Ryan Adams' version later so... By the time David Potts was auditioned for the band 'Be Here Now' was two years old and the backlash as well as Noel's prescription use had already begun in earnest. They were able to tour the UK in arenas no problem but they had Australian and North American dates undersold throughout the tour although IIRC Europe sold well, so it wasn't an all conquering tour but it was a chaotic one. I agree that it wasn't from the book of 'Great Interview Techniques' but I think it was useful for both parties in a way, Oasis for seeing Potts wasn't a yes man which is essentially what they (or Noel) wanted at that point, and Potts for seeing that the band were not open to newcomers with musical ideas. Don't forget at the time of the SOTSOG tour rumours in the industry were rife that Noel was done with the band, Andy and Gem were on session contracts until the tour end, etc. It was only Gem in particular chipping away at Noel after the summer festivals and Wembley 2000 that led him back to the idea of making another Oasis record. Unfortunately that record was 'Heathen Chemistry' but I'm sure Gem had good intentions when he put the ideas into Noel's head Can someone tell the story of Noel's prescription use? I've only now heard of this somehow. I always thought it was the illegal kind only. Fuckin' hell. I answered it at Link to Post which has links to articles where Noel discussed the reasons for taking them and the adverse effects, it saves me typing them all out again- If you need me to go deeper into it then let me know

You touch my amp when I'm not around and you're getting fired immediately. Potts may have had the talent, but you gotta be a team player before you can pull the, someone isn't being a team player card This, he was a prick if he did that, it doesn't matter if he is very talented, you don't do this kind of thing, mainly with the man in charge, he blew it

Remember people, there's a certain artistic licence used when writing books, and a lot is (definitely maybe) sensationalized. Most comments on this forum/article below are quite complimentary so thank you. One is downright rude... but there are many presumptuous pillocks in this world. Only the people there at the time know what happened, mainly myself, Noel and Gem. I loved Oasis, still do but to quote Roy Walker... It was good but it wasn't right. As for Wonderwall, it just needed a tweek. 😉 X

If this story is anything to go by, Liam would have loved to have Pottsy as a band mate

Here's why he didn't get the gig (from Peter Hook's 'Inside New Order') : Only just seen this. Hilarious. Now who else have we heard saying Noel’s guitars were too loud..? 🤔

I must say I liked his attitude, but he shouldn't have done this on his "job interview", only much later.
That was why Noel got on really well with both Gem and Andy, for Noel they were the "do what I want you to do" guys.
