Would something like These People be alright? He needs good rock songs. It's not what I'm looking for. Some of Richard's albums and songs remind me of Robbie Williams too much.

I love the idea of sitting here thinking it could be something really modern and different from traditional Liam and then something like this will hit on announce day
DUNNADUNNADUNNDADUNNADUNDUNDUN and a collective "oh shit" beckons across the forum.

I just really hope Liam doesn't fuck up the choices for the singles like beady eye. Like choose the ones that sound completely different and obscure from oasis over quality songs. Bring the light was a terrible choice for a lead single.

Collaboration with Graham Coxon would be an interesting one. But unlikely I think.

Bring the light was a terrible choice for a lead single. Yes it really was an awful choice for "introducing" Beady Eye to the world. I don't mind the song but wrong foot forward. They needed to begin their career with "Four Letter Word". It's like kicking the door down and saying "we're back bitches!!!!!". I don't care if it sounded too "Oasisy" and they wanted to distance themselves from that label but man they needed to begin with a bang, not a whimper.

Like I said in the 'Unpopular Oasis opinons' thread. I think that Bring the Light is better than most of Oasis between 2000-2009. I don't know if it was a good lead single.
One question: when did people start slagging Beady Eye off? I always thought the press was postive about them.

Still think Bring The Light is fucking great. oh its good imo, especially the 2013 version but its not something that I would recommend for Liam to set out on a good foot in his solo effort, if he revealed something similar. not a good choice for beady eyes lead single, shouldve been roller or FLW imo, think it put people off when they were expecting something abit more like oasis, those other two songs wouldve been abit softer on the transition and are generally structured better for a first ever song people will hear.

Id give Bring The Light 3/10 and that's being kind. It really is absolute dirge.

I remember Liam heard the mixed reviews and said it's got people talking that's what matters. I don't mind the song but as the lead single, that was a horrible choice. I do disagree that it was better than 2000-2009 oasis, there was a reason why Noel wouldn't allow the song to be in the oasis catalog. Four letter word would have been by far the best choice for the lead single, dumbass descion making the second free promotions single. Bring the light sounds like an album filler or b-side.

bring the light was awful. i thought those guys were supposed to be all rock and roll. that thing was the lamest slice of turgid no swing rawk ever. it was embarrassing.
i think there is little evidence from the songs liam has written that he is capable of making a decent album without someone else doing most of the work. his songs all have no bridges, about 8 words of lyrics each, and would be a minute and a half long if he didn't stick boring repeating outros on them. his song from the pub was alright but showed no real development or movement on from his ,basically, beginner permit level songwriting. other than that, he's great!

What was really mad is that they teased us with a clip first from a completely different song: the whooping and guitar solo from Sons Of The Stage which sounded epic! So it was a double slice of WTF when BTL was actually the single.

Musically, I think this is a realistic sound for Liam to try and achieve.

John Leckie as producer?

A good producer but he seems to work best with more open minded artists (Radiohead, XTC, Verve) as with other more straight forward artists it was decent yet very standard production (Cast, Elastica). I would be more inclined to go with a production that features more musical ideas from the producers themselves, so as The Escapist has already mentioned UNKLE or Death in Vegas would potentially be a good shout, etc. for my money.

It baffles me that people formerly (and presently) fans of the songwriting of noel Gallagher can think that bring the light or soul love are "good" (nevermind "very good") songs? Is soul love even a 'song' by the generally accepted definition? It sounds like someone reading a poem (penned by a primary schooler) to background music that wasn't specifically selected for the task. I think you are being kind about the bridges - most of them don't even have a chorus. Liam gets a pass from me for not doing a whole lot during Oasis because he had Noel there delivering album after album of million-plus sellers. But he has now had two full albums on which he could demonstrate he has the ability to write a hit - just one hit - and he hasn't come close. If you want to sell music in anything like large numbers you need a decent fucking chorus. It doesn't matter if its written by max martin for recording by katy perry or by liam and bonehead for recording by liam, and it doesn't really matter if it has 4 instruments or if its be here now on steroids. Hell, you can even chuck in the la la las from Little James if you absolutely must, just make the chorus a little bit catchy.

Too many incredible songwriters either have only one hit or no hits. If hits were easy to get then everyone would be rolling around in one. Also, Soul Love is fantastic songwriting, from mood, arrangement, and lyrics, it's a great song.

Making a hit isn't easy. Some bands go years without breaking through. Kings Of Leon took what, 4 albums? Also, a hit doesn't necessarily equal good music by that artist.
Also, I've never even thought about the definition of a song.

Apparently Oasis wanted John Leckie to produce Be Here Now. Leckie, rejected them.
