Come on, Notting Hill is masterpiece. You know I was joking mate, really good song. I know but I've still got the trauma of a sound engineer saying " Hey, your songs sound like James Morrison !" (I'll let you check it out if you want to make your ears bleed). And he was pretty serious when he said that Please Don't Stop The Rain was one of my favourite songs like 10 years ago hahaha

catchy melody. simply sounds great. what do you mean with "Looking forward to the finished product"? and what happened to your guitar player mate. looking forward to listen 2 guitars mix.
i think you already created your own style already with melody, vocals etc. you know when you heard a song you may guess who made it, if you know what i mean. anyway it's always nice to see you still keeping recording new demos.

Thanks for your comment, mate ! The guy who played guitar on a few demos has moved to an other town, we don't play together anymore.

lubeck , the lazy fucker that I am finally got around to listening to your new demo of Molly's House. I must say, it sounds fantastic. I really love the Elliot Smith/Travis/Belle and Sebastien vibes I'm getting from it. In fact, I'll be honest and say that I prefer when you draw inspiration from those bands more than when your Oasis influences are more evident. A softer sound suits your voice/songwriting better, methinks. Keep up the great work, man! One day I want to be able to walk into a record store (if they still exist these days) and buy your debut album, or find it on Spotify. And then if you become famous I want to be able to claim that I was there from the very beginning.

I really like it too, although first thing that came to my mind with the opening chords was Where Is My Mind by Pixies. Melodically different as it’s very pretty but I could envisage a full band recording of this sounding quite heavy, sleazy and dirty but with a pretty melody, ala Supersonic. The more you write lubeck, the more interesting these songs are getting and more melodically varied. Really digging it, keep churning out the songs!

I was listening a lot Doolittle and Surfer Rosa when I wrote Molly's House and Down The Street (a lot of Pet Sounds, Big Star and classical music too) so maybe it subconsciously inspired me.

Hey lubeck , I've given the playlist a listen through, ranked it and tried to give you some feedback where I can. Hope this helps! 1) As She Goes:I'm Waiting For The Man/Mucky Fingers vibes. What you're doing vocally here really suits you. I cannot emphasize this enough. IMO this is the direction you should be taking your songwriting. I'd rework what you've done between 1:22-1:33 but the sense of dynamics and reintroduction of fast paced rhythm guitar just before you've finished that segment is brilliant. Well done you! 2) You Drive Me Crazy:
The other track which suits you vocally very well. I think I've pointed out before it rips on 'Bring It On Down' a bit, but fuck that. Probably the most 'finished' compositionally. It sounds perfectly natural, the changes are super sweet and there's nothing weak to note at all. 3) Sail Around the World:
Probably the catchiest and most memorable composition of yours. It's good verse melody with an even stronger chorus. One of the more Oasis-like tracks. 4) Be Alright:
Another one I have no problem reciting. The verse/bridges(?) are strong nugget worth having and could be worthwhile weaving into a future composition. I'm not big on the " Don't town baby don't town" (<<< I'm really sorry, haha. You'll have to excuse me but I can't make out the lyric) and " Alright baby alright" refrain(?) as something about them doesn't sit right with me but I respect that they make up a good chunk of the melody which overall I am a fan of. I'd scrap the faux strings. 5) Liar:A little darker, a little sadder, more mature somehow. Good chorus. I like it. 6) Molly's House:
A nice composition. Feels very natural. Not sure about 1:35-1:43. 7) There Is...:I can definitely hear potential. The verses and bridges are nice but for me don't necessarily connect. The rhythm guitar is a little jarring in places too. Some really nice guitar work starts after the 32 second mark but is cut drastically short. It sounded like something really good was happening but it suddenly vanished! 8) Mrs Brown:
A decent enough tune. There's nothing weak here just nothing too exciting either. 9) Gonna Show:
Something quite dreamy about it. It's pretty and a little more subtle. 10) Village Story:
Some nice guitar work. Not a big fan but I can still hear potential. 11) I Don't Care:
It's ok but not worth any further exploring in my opinion. 12) Down the Street/The Day of Karl Spenson:I reckon you could knock these out like nothing. They're just too middling for me. I like what your sounding out at the end of 'Down the Street' though. To summarize: 1-3 are definite keepers, 4-9 are all nice and have potential, 10-12 I'd scrap. I think it'd hold you back keeping on to them. I don't know if you perform small sets live or how many tracks you'd be able to play but 'As She Goes', 'You Drive Me Crazy', 'Sail Around the World' and maybe 'Liar' and 'Molly's House' would be the ones I'd go to first, interspersed with some covers. Even though I consider 'Be Alright' as quite strong I think it probably needs more work first. Any luck finding anyone to play with regular? That'd definitely be a positive for you. Have you had a play with software like Audacity or a DAW like GarageBand? They'd probably help you make sense of your songs and quickly edit them if you chop them into segments. Definitely worth a shot.

The Crimson Rambler Thanks a lot for taking the time to make a ranking and give your honest thoughts on each song, I really appreciate it ! I don't feel the same about some tracks but don't they say songwriters aren't the best judges for their own songs ? I have my little idea about the instrumentation but I'm still open to find new ideas on each of those songs. EDIT: you forgot "Liar"

I think what you say is somewhat true, especially early on, as songwriters are still finding what works for them and getting some kind of formulas down. Obviously mine is just one opinion though! As you know the songs inside out I'd find it interesting to hear what believe are the stronger songs.

If I had to rank them tonight, it would look like this: Mrs.Brown Sail Around The World Be Alright Gonna Show Molly's House I Don't Care The Day of Karl Spensson As She Goes Down The Street Tonight There Is... Village Story Liar For me, Mrs.Brown is my best track. After that, Sail Around The World and Be Alright wouldn't be far at all. It was very happy moment when I wrote Be Alright, so maybe I'm maybe subconsciously biased towards it (same thing for Gonna Show, even though it was written 1 year and a half before Be Alright). It's the one I play the most on keyboards. The rest could change their position tomorrow, especially near the end of the list. About the new songs, I really like Molly's House. It's the only melody I wrote without playing any instrument at the same time (it came to me while walking in the street). It borrows "Canon in D" chords progression.

I assume 'Tonight' is 'You Drive Me Crazy'? I'd say we rate 'Sail Around the World', 'Be Alright', 'Molly's House' and maybe 'Village Story' the same but the rest is a complete mix! Isn't opinion lovely.

I know my little brother really likes Mrs.Brown and The Day of Karl Spensson, two of ex bandmates had Village Story as favourite, the drummer I played with loved Gonna Show, etc.

Thank you for sharing another song with us, its great to see how your songwriting evolves. I like the simple chord strumming of the new song but the recording does make it hard to hear more than that - maybe its just my speakers? The guitar element of it does flow naturally but I think you're still finding your feet on this one melodically. It kind of meanders on, harmlessly, but it does feel like a bit long for only 2:04. I think if you work on this one a bit, or maybe set it aside and come back to it later, you'll find what's missing. You've got something good here, a nice idea for a song and a basic framework, but it is missing something 'special'...not sure what, but it will come to you. Keep at it you'll get there
