Most would agree that Giants is Oasis' biggest missed opportunity.
A member once said "This could have been the empire strikes back of Oasis albums" another "This could have been their Dark side of the moon" And with the tracks available. It really could have been. The tracks were there. Would it have sold as many as Morning Glory? Fuck no, But what does that really matter?
Oasis were about terrace anthems, and Suuunnshheeeiiine
On Giants they were about Ghosts of sin and Enemies knowing their names.
Oasis were about Shagging, and taking Drugs and being young and optimistic
On Giants they were about the come down, the hangover, Reflections
Oasis were about Big chords and Loud Fuckin Drums
On Giants they were about drum loops and programming.
Oasis were Rock and Roll
On Giants they were Led Zep hard rock / Beta Band / Psychedelia / Progressive / Gospel
If Oasis had have pulled this album off... Then Pitchfork media would probably be sucking them off to this day.
You know the rules.

I definitely won't vote for any covers. There are enough good original songs on this list.

Just Getting Older really needed to be included in the poll, as the version on the THT single is the demo Noel recorded before the SOTSOG sessions.

Teotihuacan was the soundtrack for X-files in 98. Noel recorded Force of Nature and Little by little for a Jude Law film during the giants sessions. Cant remember the Film name. Songbird is tricky... Liam has always said he wrote it whilst the band were recording in france, and the only French recording sessions I know of were at that chatteaux that giants was recorded at. Its a crime was also demod at that time but I think that's widley known

My playlist on iTunes:
1. Fuckin' In The Bushes 2. Go Let It Out 3. Who Feels Love? 4. One Way Road 5. Gas Panic! 6. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 7. I Can See A Liar 8. Let's All Make Believe 9. Roll It Over
Works well, I think. The last two tracks are a bit samey, and, even with me surrounding it with some absolute belters, I Can See A Liar is still thoroughly mediocre, but at 42 minutes, there's enough substance there without it being dragged down by excessive filler.

Before anyone asks, I'm the (first? ) vote for "Little James" because if putting that song on the album was the push that motivated Liam to become a bit more of a songwriter, I most certainly would not vote against it.

I'd still maintain that that's Be Here Now. The power they wielded just before it came out, if they'd nailed it, the Yanks would have had no choice but to sit up, ignore Liam being a monkey on TV, and actually listen, for once. And to be honest, I would argue that the tracks were the one thing Giants DIDN'T have. But there's no doubting it was an important album. If it had been as good as it could and should have been, the press wouldn't have slagged the band off quite so much, and Noel would never have dropped his arse and gone 'back to basics' (i.e. generic songs with shite production) for Heathen Chemistry -- such a gargantuan misstep, I don't think the band ever fully recovered from it. Such a bloody shame...

Does anyone else think that the SOTSOG era should've been the launch of Noel's solo career? Or at least one solo album? He could've divided the melancholy from the madferit, and used the somber songs for his solo record, and the more "Oasis" songs for a series of EP's. That way, the biggest problem with SOTSOG would be avoided: there wouldn't be an album that can't decide if it wants to be depressed and more emotionally honest or your traditional Oasis with a shot of electro-psychedelia. Here's how it could've turned out:
Noel's solo album: 1. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 2. Sunday Morning Call 3. Let's All Make Believe 4. (As Long as They've Got) Cigarettes in Hell 5. Just Getting Older 6. Idler's Dream 7. Revolution Song 8. One Way Road 9. Let There Be Love 10. Carry Us All 11. Roll It Over
Oasis EP #1: Go Let It Out 1. Fuckin' in the Bushes 2. Go Let It Out 3. Who Feels Love? 4. Helter Skelter
Oasis EP #2: Gas Panic! 1. I Can See a Liar 2. Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is 3. Gas Panic! 4. Full On

To me, I wouldn't change much but:
1. Go Let It Out 2. Who Feels Love? 3. Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is 4. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 5. Gas Panic! 6. Let's All Make Believe 7. Sunday Morning Call 8. Little James 9. I Can See A Liar 10. Roll It Over
I'd just swap Fuckin' In The Bushes for Let's All Make Believe. I couldn't really swap any others due to a lack of Liam sung songs and I think 2 Noel sung songs is just right. Carry Us All was the closest I came to putting another Noel sung song on. Problem is, it's too similar to LAMB for me. Full On, is ok but it isn't Liam sung, I feel Noel's voice doesn't quite suit the song.
Singles: #1 Go Let It Out: Fuckin' In The Bushes/(As Long As They've Got) Cigarettes In Hell #2 Let's All Make Believe: One Way Road/Force Of Nature #3 Gas Panic!: Carry Us All/Helter Skelter #4 Where Did It All Go Wrong?: Full On/Carnation

Looking at things laid out like this has mad me realize that there might not even be one great album in there anywhere. There are only 5 album tracks that I care for, and the rest of them are all just there. Nothing really worthy of inclusion, or they are out of place on this list.
Go Let It Out Who Feels Love? Gas Panic Where Did It All Go Wrong? Roll It Over

I think there's a classic 10/10 album in that lot,
Like the OP says it wouldn't have sold MG levels as that time has passed but this IMO would have been there dark masterpiece
Fuckin in the Bushes Go Let It Out Who Feels Love? Teotucuan (except 1) Little by Litttle Let's all Make Believe Gas Panic! Where Did It All Go Wrong? Teotucuan (except 2) Full On (Liam Vocals) Idlers Dream Roll It Over

1. Teotihuacan 2. Go Let It Out 3. Who Feels Love 4. Full On 5. Let's All Make Believe 6. Gas Panic! 7. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 8. Carry Us All 9. Revolution Song 10. Roll It Over Points: 1. I fucking hate FITB. Teotihuacan opens and sets the album MUCH, MUCH better. 2. I didn't include any HC tracks. That's just fucking daft, Longtime Servant of the Gun3. I like SMC, but its inclusion would create the same problem - too similar to WDIAGW 4. Full On and LAMB create the energy that Noel was searching for with PYMWYMI and ICSAL. Better executed. 5. Of course there's too many Noel-sung tracks, but switch the vocals around and that is one helluva tracklist.

The released versions of Just Getting Older and Idler's Dream were recorded along with all the other SOTSOG demos before the Giants sessions, and we know for a fact that demos of Little by Little and Force of Nature were recorded in France during the album sessions. Hence why they are included. And, while I love the ambition of opening the album with Teotihuacan, keep in mind that even Oasis' most dedicated fanbase would probably be turned off by a seven minute atmospheric electronica song. Fuckin' in the Bushes, however, is a great balance between the old and the experimental, combining drum loops, vocal samples, and electronic production with a madferit attitude, and making it the perfect opener for SOTSOG. Plus it's fuckin' amazing and gets ya pumped like no other Oasis instrumental!

And Teotihuacan sets that theme of loneliness and alienation that is to come. I do understand that FITB appeals to the Oasis fan base more, but it doesn't fit with what SOTSOG tried to achieve, and ultimately should have succeeded in becoming: An atmospheric album. I stand by every track pick, but am a bit unsure of the tracklisting - mainly with regards of 8. Carry Us All, and 9. Revolution Song. Other than that, this would have been an incredible album and actually makes me even more angry at how Noel really fucked this album off. 1. Teotihuacan 2. Go Let It Out 3. Who Feels Love 4. Full On 5. Let's All Make Believe 6. Gas Panic! 7. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 8. Carry Us All 9. Revolution Song 10. Roll It Over And yes, while I do understand why those HC are included in the poll, I'd rather keep them separate - I don't know, just seems more realistic that way.

Agreed, FITB doesn't have a place on a melancholy album, and the choice of Teotihuacan as opener would've been the most ballsy move Oasis ever did. We agree on a bit more than you might think, though, if you've seen my alt tracklist (if not, it's below), you can see that I've gone as far as to exclude much-loved songs like GLIO and Full On because they're too much like the Oasis of old, and not sad enough to warrant inclusion on what could've been a very introspective and emotionally honest work. Granted, I have rebranded the album as Noel's first solo album, only because he sings way too many songs ha ha. 1. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 2. Sunday Morning Call 3. Let's All Make Believe 4. Cigarettes in Hell 5. Just Getting Older 6. Idler's Dream 7. Revolution Song 8. One Way Road 9. Let There Be Love 10. Carry Us All 11. Roll It Over And I suppose that you could include Gas Panic between Idler's Dream and Revolution Song. Actually, while this post was supposed to be a rebuttal of your response, I'd actually have to agree with your "big balls" move of including Teotihuacan as the opener! So kudos to you for that, yer twat. But I ain't having no GLIO or Full On or Who Feels Love on there. Goes completely against the point of a "hungover" album.
