Does anyone on this forum like Green Day or did like them in the past? If you do/did, why do/did you like them?

My brother is/was a huge Green Day fan. I've never dug them outside a couple of tunes here and there. To me they are like cheaper version of a punk band. Can multi millionaires be punk anyways?

I like a few of their songs. I don't particularly like them, I don't really mind them. They're just sorta "there"

Don't like them. Their sound is too americanised for my liking (if that makes a sense ahah).
Particularly hate when I say that I love Oasis, that people say then "oh yeah: today is gonna...; so then, you should love Green Day too, no ?" like they are similar bands, and you must love both of them.

You could do far worse than listening to Green Day.

I've got a friend who is a huge Green Day fan. Even went abroad (to Paris, a few other places in France and somewhere a bit further away, but I forgot where) to see them a few times.

Actually I'm neither english or american so that doesn't count, in my case at least. But I understand your point about the background thing.

This is my favourite tune of theirs.
Also really like this cover of "Long Time Gone" that Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones recorded a few years back.

I like American Idiot. That's all I know of them. And a single called 'Oh Love'.

One of the most overrated bands of recent years. Was a complete joke to see Rolling Stone rank them as "best artist of the 00's" above Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, etc.

Was a complete joke to see Rolling Stone rank them as "best artist of the 00's" above Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, etc. American Idiot is a great album(I know eva agrees with me) but the rest of the albums since have lacked something. 21st century breakdown(song) is the closest to that level. All in all there are better bands and worse as well.

They have some good tunes, namely the ones from the 90s when their album Dookie did really well.
But I do find them incredibly irritating as performers/artists.

I like Basket Case, Brain Stew/Jaded, Redundant, Time of Your Life, and Wake Me Up When September Ends.
Outside of those tunes, don't really care too much for them. Too American punk for me I guess.

I was lucky enough to see them in a club when there were about a dozen of us in the audience. They played it like a stadium. I went to my boss (I worked in music then) and told him to sign them. I remember he said "Green Day will never go anywhere." Well then - look who was right.
American Idiot was definitely the best album - it accomplished what very few albums do - it had a clear theme from beginning to end, and had a rock opera feel. At their best, they are quite good.

In 2008 I was 14 and I was a big fan of them for about 2 years. I bought the DVD, Bullet in a Bible (which is nice), American Idiot (nice album) and 21st Century Breakdown when it came out. I never listen to them now, but I can't say I don't like When September Ends, American Idiot, Holiday etc. Yet again, I can't even remember the last time I heard one of their songs. I also have to point out that when I was 14 all the kids of my age in Italy were Green Day fans.
This was good though
