Happy day. Bobby Gillespie also released a new single with Jehnny Beth today and announced an album coming out in July! Glad to have MBV back on streaming and finally to be able to order Loveless and and Isn't Anything on vinyl since I missed my previous opportunity

I said to David Bowie, 'It's like Major Tom is in one of those Russian spaceships they can’t afford to bring down,' and he [Bowie] said, 'Oh wow, is that where he is?'"-David Tennant
Is he right that Space Oddity, Ashes to Ashes and Hallo Spaceboy is a trilogy of sorts?

Man, each time I hear the strings enter towards the 1:00 mark... Goosebumps everywhere.

Metal Archives April 1 joke: Turn bands into cats. Lord and Blind Guardian as cats 😅 Edit: I'm listening to the Lord (Happy birthday LT) EP and I am not alone. I used to be a purist (there are still some bands I am a devotee of, Lord one) but now a good song is a good song to me as I have an open mind. I still won't touch drone metal though unless Nadja. That SoundCloud thing 😅

Was thinking about U2 today after watching one of the E+I shows and, I think that SoE is a good album but they became a pastiche of themselves by going back and reworking the album to incorporate more current political themes into the album. U2 has always been a band that is reflective of themselves as people and what they are encountering in their own lives, which is why their political statements from the '80s are so strong and captivating because that was their lived experiences. With SoE, the concept of fleshing out messages for after you're dead that your loved ones will receive is a very strong concept that works well at many points on SoE, but the overtly political songs don't sound right. I get that the band, and especially Bono, is passionate about world affairs but it didn't fit the narrative that was going on with SoE. I admire that they made the tracks a little more raw but taking the Pop approach of putting the songs out there and then adding in more political themes on tour would've been much better than what they did with the album.
Speaking of which, I listened to the SoE Tour shows and the whole band sounds really tired. Even for the early tour shows, Bono's voice is shaky and the band just doesn't have that same energy. I get that they're older and a lot happened between SoI and SoE, but it wasn't the same energetic U2. Something just felt flat about the E+I Tour.
With that said, once COVID gets done, if they want to call it quits, I don't blame them at all. I will be sad but they have done everything they've needed to do and 13 is honestly a beautiful sign-off for the band. I could see them continuing to tour and do random shows or even a ZooTV revival tour, which I think would be interesting. Hell, they could even release albums of Bono giving political speeches over The Edge playing some whack-ass experimental guitar and the rest of the band going along with it, and that would be chill. They can do whatever they want and they don't have to please anyone but themselves, and I hope they realize that because the last three albums don't give me that vibe.

Thoughts on The Snuts? I'm more picky with indie bands these days but I found their album really nice, nothing particularly new but some solid playing and songwriting, and a young guitar band at number 1 in the charts is always a pleasant sight

That is an interesting take that maybe U2 should just pack it all in. Like you said, there is literally nothing left for this band to accomplish. They have done it all. Big songs, big albums, big tours, huge hits, accolades for days and legions of fans on a global level. Take a bow and depart maybe? I got a feeling an Achtung Baby tour is something that could happen in 2022 if COVID gets a grip. Who knows. Fuck all I guess.

Everyone should listen to the podcast "Criminal", and the most recent episode is about the mysterious death of Bobby Fuller, known for 'I Fought The Law' and 'Let Her Dance'. Good(though sad) stuff! thisiscriminal.com/

One of the few songs that clicked with me 100% on first listen. Fits perfectly with heading out at the start of a walk.

Lemon by U2 is their 'A Day In The Life'. A perfectly crafted, multilayered tune of such unbelievable depth and feeling. Such a perfect song, probably their finest moment yet sadly unheard in most cases.
