Anyone ever listened to It’s Gettin’ Better (Man!!) and My Big Mouth on a decent pair of headphones? Honestly - they’re a disgrace. Imagine the kind of money and resources that must have been available to the band after (WTS)MG? and getting results like that. My Big Mouth is just one big block of mush front to back. The wall of guitars idea, though spectacular in its audacity, fails completely in execution. All the layers simply cancel one another out and produce this highly compressed vat of distorted mud. Not only this but the guitars permeate the mix so completely that they vaporise every other element of the song. The pair of these songs sound like they’re being filtered through 120p Youtube videos. And the drums! The drums! Bloody hell. Listen to the drums on the back end of It’s Gettin’ Better (Man!!). Where the hell did they go? Every new layer added to the mix just results in all the others getting quieter. That’s what happens when you brick-wall the shit out of everything. If you don’t give yourself any head room there’s just nowhere else to go. As far as I’m concerned this is indefensible stuff from Owen and Noel and they sure as hell know it. There's a weird sound like clipping at one point in IGBM as well. Very sloppy.

If you don’t give yourself any head room there’s just nowhere else to go. As far as I’m concerned this is indefensible stuff from Owen and Noel and they sure as hell know it. The production on My Big Mouth actually makes the song less raucous, to me. The guitars are so over-cooked that the main riff becomes harder to distinguish, like I'm supposed to go looking for it amongst all the feedback and crackle. I also dislike how the bridge is every bit as loud as the rest of the song. One of the biggest problems with Be Here Now in general is the lack of dynamics - the songs start loud, carry on being loud in the middle, and finish up loud, too. I know that sounds rocking, but there are so many great dynamics on the first two albums. Take Live Forever, with all it's peaks and valleys, all building up to that humongous ending. None of that on Be Here Now. If the bridge of My Big Mouth had been lighter, more spacey, letting those twinkling guitars shine, then the chorus hitting back with all those thunderous riffs slamming in your ears would be a real adrenaline rush. But it just goes LOUD to LOUD to LOUD, so it doesn't feel like anything has been built to, it's just a constant, droning distorted noise. Still, good tune. I'm all for noisy droning guitar music but they approached it in the most stupid way possible. I don't mind searching under feedback and crackle, I just don't enjoy wading through a torrent of shit! Here's a few nice quotes from Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine) regarding recording nice thick guitar tones: This is exactly what happens on My Big Mouth. Here's a quote from Noel explaining why the 2016 rethink he and Strangeboy did of DYKWIM? sounds better than the original: Owen has always brickwalled Oasis records but the sheer number of layers on Be Here Now (resulting from a complete lack of editing and quality control) highlights the ugliest side of this technique. There's nothing wrong with just staying loud in a song if that's what it requires but you can't be at 100% and then try to push beyond it. It just doesn't work. But yeah, good tune.

I think this loud, louder, loudest idea of MBM matches the 'I'm on top of the world' feel of BHN perfectly.

The more I think about it, the more I think Slide Away might be Oasis' best tune. The more I think about it, the more I think Don't Go Away might be Oasis' best tune. The more I think about it, the more I think Supersonic might be Oasis' best tune.

All Around The World is ok but it goes on for far too long for me. If it had been shorter it would have been much better I think. See, I say that too, but then there's times like today where I listened to it all the way through and thought, "Wait, that was 9 minutes and some second long? It didn't feel like it." I think it works in full like that on the album but as a single, it would've been better trimmed down rather than the 9 minute behemoth that it is. I also wish that Liam didn't have those "Na na na na"s over top of some of the tasty guitar playing Noel has, especially when the song is about to change keys for the second time. To be honest All Around The World is not a song I actually listen to much. In fact I usually skip it if it comes on one of my Oasis play lists when I'm streaming music on line.

To be honest Be Here Now is probably my least favourite Oasis album and I think that most of the songs work better live. I do however love D'You Know What I Mean. That's a great song.

The more I think about it, the more I think Don't Go Away might be Oasis' best tune. The more I think about it, the more I think Supersonic might be Oasis' best tune. The fact it was a first single blows me away. Monumental sound, amazing songwriting from Noel (that C# chord before the chorus, so good) and of course a perfect Liam's delivery. Iconic.

I think this loud, louder, loudest idea of MBM matches the 'I'm on top of the world' feel of BHN perfectly. There is no loud, louder, loudest though. There's just this one loud, black mush. I know we all like getting into the romantic idea of Be Here Now, myself included, but the truth is that if the song had been produced well, no-one would be on here going "To be honest, I wish this had no dynamics and was over-compressed to fuck". The thing is as well that Oasis had already proved that rock can be layered and dynamic without being losing a sense of chaos. Exhibit A: If My Big Mouth had that quality of production

It captivates the oasis spirit, with all its flaws.

Noel's version of Fade Away is better than the original The original would be better with the backing vocals in the chorus from the War Child version. Gonna paint you a picture, cos I don't think you live round here no more LIVE ROUND HERE NO MORE

I saw that Oasis are massive in Indonesia. Does anyone know if it's a recent thing or if it was already the case back in the 90's ?

I didn't know they were, apparently they never played a gig in Indonesia. Only Liam played in Jakarta in January 2018. How did you learn they're massive there, by the way? I'm curious.

A site called "Soundcharts". It says that Indonesia is the country that listens to Oasis the most on youtube by far.

Just listened to Ain't Got Nothin' again and it's actually not as bad of a song as I thought it was. It could've used more of a blues guitar solo in there rather than just the screaming in there which would've given the song some more substance. I Believe in All would've been a better song on DOYS, just since it is more complete, but Ain't Got Nothin' is as bad of a song as I thought it was, nor is even The Nature of Reality. I think what makes the last three songs have such a bad reputation is that they're not as contagiously energetic as the songs that precede it. Had I Believe in All and Come on Outside been in for Ain't Got Nothin' and The Nature of Reality, with Soldier On & Boy With the Blues to close, it would've been far better in keeping the energy up.
