Just looking at the screen grab image of that YouTube video you see that nothing is "real" in that shot outside Ewan McGregor. Honest Trailers on point again God damn i will never tell my kids that those prequels exist. Dont want to ruin the franchise for them

Here is a good question, does Maz ever need to return to Star Wars? She served her part and I can't see her being relevant now that Rey is with Luke. Can't think of why she would need to be at the Resistance base with Leia, Poe, Finn, etc.
Thoughts?

Like someone said she may have known Yoda! Don't forget she never discussed how she got Anakin's/Luke's original lightsaber after it got lost on Bespin in 'Empire'.

But now that Rey is with Luke with the lightsaber does it really matter? She's not gonna be with them training. That would be weird. Abrams said she is 1,000 years and and jokingly said could have known Yoda. I believe Maz's role was extremely reduced during this past Summer's reshoots. The Bespin backstory was cut despite the action figures being released prior. The more you dig into Maz's castle scenes the more you realize it's a hot mess.

Maybe she will join the resistance, offering her assistance with knowledge of the force, especially now that her castle was destroyed. My hope is that she and Luke will help train members of the resistance, including Rey and maybe Poe (judging by his great piloting skills). Also, what does Snoke mean by an awakening? Is he referencing Rey? Or many others both light and dark?

Ewan McGregor was pretty decent in the prequels, good choice to play obi wan imo and episode 3 is quite good imo, I quite enjoyed it.
the only one I really cant stand is episode 2, nothing happens in it, its merely a lazy bridge and like honest trailers said, its called attack of the clones yet they dont actually attack until episode 3.
they just fucked up giving darth vadar a pretty poor back story and then picking a guy who couldnt act for toffee.
plus one thing I never really got was anakin is a kid when he meets padme yet they are like the same age in episode 3.

Besides she is a pirate and a bar keep. Let Luke do the heavy stuff.

He does get one little jab in on him but is pretty much dominated. Rey has a xwing pilot doll. You can clearly hear Obi Won/Alec Guiness yell Rey during her vision. Yodas voice is in there too but I couldnt make out what he said. Rey is in retreat fighting Ren. When he has her pinned against the cliff and tells her he can train her in the force something clicks in her. Almost like she heard it before . I preferred it much more on the second viewing. Movie still isnt perfect but the positives far out weigh the negatives. Its easily better than the prequels and possibly better than ROTJ.

Also, I still haven't figured out if this is titled as Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens or just Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Why would JJ drop the Episode VII bit? They have to know the fans are going to refer to it like that anyway. In the crawl it says episode vll even though its missing on the posters.

So, what's your favorite scenes from the movie? Comedically, when Finn gives BB-8 a thumbs up for keeping his secret and playing along and BB-8 responds with igniting his lighter "thumb". That was great. Had the entire theater laughing. Dramatically, I really liked when Kylo Ren killed Han on the bridge. I liked their discussion beforehand and then Chewies response to shoot Kylo. I also liked that Leia felt his death. Action-wise, when Jakku is attacked the second time and Finn + Rey are escaping. That was pretty tense. Mine is probably ren interrogating Rey and then their light saber battle.

If it hadn't been, I was wondering if JJ considered this to be technically a work of fan fiction since Lucas's original concepts for these episodes aren't being used.

Only episode 4 didn't have a number, because it was just Star Wars. ESP always had the number 5 in the crawl, and so on.

This movie feels like Star Wars. The prequels never fully did despite being called Star Wars. The things I pointed are relatively minor and more to do with my personal grips with the way JJ does storytelling. He's derivative as hell. He's directed 5 films, 4 of them were already massive film franchises and his own unique work (Super 8) was a let down. Looked cool but became a monster flick.

I'm going to defend JJ I don't care what anyone says. I love Super 8. Its a throw back to the kid adventure movies of the 80's. Et, Goonies, Stand By Me, and even Monster Squad. Yes the first half is better than the second once the monster is introduced but there is so many good things going on. The movie inside the movie is hilarious, the kid actors are great, they feel like real kids, and it looks great. Lost is arguably one of the best pilots of all time Mi3 is the best of the franchise. Star Trek despite some of the goofiness and weak villains is my favorite of the franchise besides Kahn. I really can't defend Into Darkness though.

I'll have to go back and check that, my versions were printed in 1993 and I don't think they even had even started planning the prequels at that point?

POSITIVES>Some of the Han/Chewie scenes >Visually breathtaking >Actually felt like a living, breathing universe - puppets! real sets! >The second act - particularly enjoyed Lupita N'yong'o's character >The scene where Rey finds Anakin Skywalker's old lightsaber >BB-8Cute and funny, and, lets face it, a bloody goldmine for merchandise, BB-8 is everything Jar-Jar wasn't. And that is a very GOOD thing indeed. >Rey!!! I wondered from her first scene, I knew for sure after her second - I love this character. Whether the other new characters that have been introduced will stand the test of time, we shall see, but I have absolutely no problem AT ALL with the prospect of spending another 4/5 hours with Rey. I was unsure of Ridley from what I saw in the trailers, but I think she comes out of this looking better than perhaps anybody else in the cast. Action, comedy, drama, she handles everything with such aplomb you'd think she were a seasoned pro and not an almost complete unknown. Not for one minute do you doubt that she is her character: you absolutely believe she is this girl lost and alone on a barren planet, forced to scavenge for a living; and then, most importantly, it's not at all a stretch of the imagination to believe that she might actually have some hidden power lying somewhere beneath the surface. And you just can't help but root for her. You absolutely want to see her standing up for herself against the bad guy, and getting out of tight spots with TIE fighters, and riffing with Han. And being able to care so much for a protagonist without really having to put much work in yourself, is essential to what makes a good hero. NEGATIVES>Took a while to get going>Soooooooooooo much fan service/rehashing old material-Poe gives BB-8 the map just like Leia gave R2 the plans to the Death Star. The droid then absently roams a desert planet for a while and has the good fortune to end up in the hands of one of the very few beings in the whole galaxy blessed with the gift of The Force (either that or just a high midiclorean count...) -Fat alien with a sexy slave is in league with the First Order, just like Jabba was kind of connected to the Empire -Big Death Star -Big Death Star is destroyed -Han mentors Rey and dies at the hands of Kylo Ren just like how Ob-Wan mentored Luke and then was offed by Vader -N'young'o's character similar to Yoda; Rey's scene in the vault too bares some resemblance to Luke's in the cave on Dagobah -Luke's hideout has a little hut on it similar to Yoda's gaff -General Hux is Moff Tarkin. Over-the-top English accent an' all. >A tad reliant on formulaA LOT of blaster fights, and though Rey evading some TIE fighters in the Falcon was awesome, I did get a little tired of the all the airborne set-pieces >Carrie Fisher is no longer able to move her top lip. Or act, it seems. >Kylo Ren is a weak villain. And Phasma is even worse. >Underwhelming Williams score (no, seriously!) >Lennon2217 was right - the new Death Star was too confusing and "sci-fi" - I didn't even realise Poe had destroyed it at the end, I thought he'd just taken out the power station it was linked to on the planet Han and all the rest were on... It's exactly what I thought it would be: a beautifully shot, rollicking blockbuster with tasteful direction and welcome moments of comic relief; nothing more, nothing less. Much like the Bond franchise, I think what Star Wars needs now is to be willing to shove its history to one side and forge a new path. Alright, so it's the first in ten years, and the first since 1982 to feature the original cast, but if we're still just going "hey remember those aliens who played that silly tune in the cantina scene in the original? Here's another batch of aliens who kinda like look them, and they're playing a silly little tune too!" in the next one, or god forbid, the one after that, it's going to start to drag, and the films are not going to hold together as a trilogy of work. 7/10 (might have given it a higher rating, had it not been for some utter c*nt spoiling Han's death for me a few months back) Some good points you make there. It was definitely a safe film that was everything we needed to kind of erase the prequels from our minds and move on. I dont think many directors/screenwriters would have played this any different. It's easy for us to say in hindsight that they should have taken more of a risk, but this sets up everything nicely for a great new trilogy. Just out of interest who knew Han Solo died months ago to tell you that? Surely it would have only been rumour at that stage?

JJ left Lost after the pilot to film MI3 so he didn't have much involvement with it. The first three seasons rank up with anything as the greatest show ever. It went off the rails a bit because of the writers strike and abc wanting them to do more seasons. Id still recommend it. I was more emotionally invested in the characters than any other show I've watched. Some people were not satisfied with the ending and a lot of the people that weren't didn't understand it. Even though it was pretty clear.
