"I didn't know who he was. And I still don't know who he is. And I don't give a fuck who is. You don't touch a man's haircut, man, especially if you've got a red bobble hat on - it's not fucking Crossroads, is it?"
Liam Gallagher on Idris Elba.

You are the embodiment of anarchy! Looks like The Escapist's got competition. Annoying, of course, as I would prefer to have equal and voluntary cooperation (Warning - Serious Political Point follows...) Anarchy does not mean being able to do whatever you want, it means analysing systems of authority and questioning their legitimacy - replacing the illegitimate ones with horizontal organisation to increase the scope of human freedom. It has rules and regulations, just not ones decided and enforced by the state. The idea of Anarchy as a lawless and totally free society with no government is at best a myth. (Serious Political Point finished) Quote - "They say Jellyfish are 97% water - why not just give them the other 3% and make them water?" - Karl Pilkington, from the feature Do We Need 'Em?

This is often attributed to Bukowski or Einstein, while some say it's by Bertrand Russell. Anyway...

carlober Great quote. It reminded me of a quote expressing a similar sentiment from Bertrand Russell. ("The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.") This is another one I like from Russell. Written in 1957, but it remains as relevant as ever. "The world needs open hearts and open minds, and it is not through rigid systems, whether old or new, that these can be derived."

This is often attributed to Bukowski or Einstein, while some say it's by Bertrand Russell. Anyway... While I like that quote and would like to think that it's fully true - because I would also describe me as rather full of doubts than confident and it would then mean I'm intelligent - there are a lot of people who are very intelligent and confident as well. Kind of admirable...but at the same time, I think that it's some kind of process to become a confident person as a former doubtful person. Speaking for myself, I can already attest with my 21 years that I'm way more confident than in my teenage years, which is probably totally normal.

Malcolm Tucker's Star Wars analogy...
"It's time for you to step up Ollie, what's that film that you love?"
"What film?"
"The one about the fucking hairdresser, the space hairdresser and a cowboy. The guy's got a tin foil pal and a pedal bin. His father's a robot and he's fucking fucked his sister. Lego, they're all made of fucking lego"
"Star Wars?"
"That's the one, right. It's like that ok. We'll fucking kill all the bad guys and you'll be able to blow up the big..."
"Death Star?"
"The Death Star thing, then you can go live happily ever after in the planet of the teddy bears"
"They're Ewoks Malcolm, they're Ewoks"

Started watching Eccleston's Doctor Who again - found the episode, 'The Long Game' quite chilling actually; It's set in the year 200,000, and yet there are lots of uncomfortable parallels with today...
The Editor: Create a climate of fear and it's easy to keep the borders closed. It's just a matter of emphasis. The right word in the right broadcast repeated often enough can destabilize an economy, invent an enemy, change a vote.
Suki: The Freedom Foundation has been monitoring Satellite Five's transmissions. We have absolute proof that the facts are being manipulated. You are lying to the people. The Editor: Ooh, I love it. Say it again. Suki: This whole system is corrupt. Who do you represent? The Editor: I'm merely a humble slave. I answer to the editor-in-chief. Suki: Well, who is he? Where is he? The Editor: He's overseeing everything. Literally everything. If you don't mind, I'm going to have to refer this upwards.
The Editor: Now there's an interesting point. Is a slave a slave if he doesn't know he's enslaved? The Doctor: Yes.
