For people who have more than one pc or devices or family computers aka kids. www.realvnc.comAllows connect remote via from your network. Easy to use. It can be free if found in the right places. Highly suggested and easy transfer files to device to device.

Team viewer is also very good.
They got a good iPhone app too so can connect on the go

I like doing the traditional file transferring where you can just connect to a folder. I've never been satisfied with any of the VNC solutions, I feel the technology has advanced very little and use it for a few seconds at a time.
I have this nice app that is a keyboard/mouse that you can use via wifi. There is very little lag and it's just a basic setup that you can install via the built-in remote stuff in Windows/OSX/Linux.

True, but simple access or what not VNC is a good program to prompt commands or do something on another pc.
