Id never take that bet cause Im sure Schilling will get in before Mussina and so will Smoltz. I think Smoltz deserves it but I think Mussina was just as good as those guys but gets overlooked. Hall of Fame voting is crazy anyway. There are definitely more than three guys that deserved to get in this year but the baseball writers of America are imbeciles. How does anyone leave Maddux off their ballot? If Maddux, Ripken, Ruth, Mays were not unanimous selections no one ever will be.

I mean is there anybody they really left out of the Hall of Fame that deserves to be in it? I think not. I'll leave the steroid guys on the outside because I personally believe they disgraced the game and tainted it up forever. I use to be like you and never understood why some guys don't get 100% of the vote, but remember it's like that in all others sports too. A HOF voter once told me why guys don't get 100% the vote. For example, a writer might not vote in Maddux because he knows Greg is a shoe in even without his vote and would rather use the vote to get somebody else in like Tim Raines or Jack Morris. This actually happens and I understand the writers sentiment.

ERM. Smoltz is better than Mussina ... In big games he was better and he won over 200 before being a great reliever , don't care about stats on that .... And you forgot Seaver who had the highest percent ever , if he don't get 100 percent , I'm glad Maddox didn't as if Seaver played on the teams Maddox had he would have won near 400

Then there are the voters like the guy this year who left maddux off his ballot because he will not vote for anyone from the steroid era, Then he votes only for Jack morris who by the way played a good portion of his career in the steroid era. Meanwhile half the league was using amphetamines but who cares because they werent steroids. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?id=2225013

Only takes one vote to trash it. Also like I said, no other sport do people go in 100%. Overall I think the writers do a great job. That writer you mentioned also lost his vote for future elections.

Firstly, we hijacked this thread. Secondly, I do agree that most players eventually get in that should be, I still think Lee Smith should be in. Thirdly, its not fair to compare the NFL and MLB because in the NFL only 5 players can get in as opposed to MLB which allows 10. Fourthly, that writer did not lose his vote. He stated he will abstain from future voting. Dan Le Batard who gave his vote to Deadspin lost his vote.

Second, I could have sworn their were 17 finalists for the NFL HOF, and you need 80% of the vote to get in. 5 got in which is even more than MLB votes in before veterans committee.

Sounds like the NFL has the same issue as MLB. No player get 100% of the vote and if they announced the votes it would show it. No system is perfect. Bottom line, MLB does a top notch job.
