SONGBIRD I find this song pretty average. Good enough to include on Heathen Chemistry but not good enough to be a single. It fact Songbird and She Is Love were Oasis's two worst song choices. How Heathen Chemistry ended up with 5 singles (more than any other album and hence the most represented on Time Flies) is simply cruel. For only, only Love Like A Bomb, The Meaning Of Soul and Won't Let You Down are worse Liam compositions for Oasis. Yes I even rate Little James and Better Man higher than Songbird. But I don't hate Songbird
IDLER'S DREAM My least favourite Oasis song (possibly bar Bonehead's Bank Holiday).
Definitely Slide Away for me. It's a nice song, I can listen to it, but it just never hit me emotionally like it seems to have done with other people.
Also, can't believe I said I hated Roll With it a few years ago in this thread! I like that song quite a bit now.
Yeah, slide away is about right. I'd say the masterplan as well. I can't believe that I said CS was overrated, so did many others. It's a great song, so is wonderwall, people mistake songs being overplayed with songs being overrated. Slide away is a good song, but one of the weaker off of DM.
Champagne Supernova too. Never been one that has ever caught on. It's good, but that's it. Not anything as epic as a closer as it wants to be, and not coming close to the truly epic closer of Slide Away (always feel like Married With Children is the epilogue of that album).
'Nowhere near as good a closer as it wants to be'. This is a ridiculous thing to say looking back and is just absolute guff! It's still not in my top 20 Oasis songs but over the years I see the impact it has. And over time, when you hear it sung in bars and over the stereo, you see just how much of an impact it has on everyone. As I say, not one of the elite tunes for me, but it does the job for everyone else.
Still don't understand the hype for Don't Go Away - Liam's vocals are great, and it's a good tune, but I think it's that wee bit too sentimental.
