That should be good enough then , I suspected as much , some here disagreed but the team selection ,and his comments to press ,not to mention the balocelli affair , didn't think he would survive , City like making headlines and as I thought with the red side of Manchester getting all the press with alex departure saw this coming . Thanks jaq515

I didn't think he would survive . Guillem Ballague, who is stating this, is not a tabloid journo and his sources are usually very accurate. The fact that City haven't denied it makes you wonder. He's a quality manager and deserves a chance in the Premier League - he was actually touted for the Liverpool job before (heaven forbid us) Hodgson got the job. Dunno about others but I can see Mancini getting the sack tomorrow even. Nothing to play for so they might get their affairs in order as soon as possible.

And you can't argue with Pellegrini's sensational record. He has taken small Spanish sides such as Villareal and Malaga (this season) to CHampions League semi finals and quarter finals, and performed brilliantly with them in the league. And despite losing the La Liga at Madrid to Barcelona, he still came second with a record points haul of 96 points - unheard of for runners up but this was Barca at their absolute peak.
A very very good manager if City are to hire him.

I'm pretty sure his Madrid side were only 3 points behind the great Barca side in 2009 in the final standings in the Spanish league (I think it was 2009). If he can tame the egos of a Real Madrid side then he can definitely do it with City. What's more is he's more attacking oriented than Mancini, and I think its pretty much an essential ingredient for a Premier League team with title winning credentials these days that they have to attack. Just look at United this year.

Absolutely spot on matt Plus my mate Gavin who is very ardent supporter always sorts me out my tix when there , He is like me just get 3 points ...but he has said the majority of the supporters at meetings and such prefer the aggressive continental approach so a " big Sam type " is not happening we / they think Mancini was boring , lol ....... So it seems a natural fit .the board want aggressive pretty footy ...... What did you think of the tevez sub Another strange move that leaves you asking why ya know ? He was having a decent run as well !

He was having a decent run as well ! I really don't know what went on. What I do know is that Nasri is the epitome of an overpaid, underachieving player that Man City have. Sell him and let him rot in the lower French leagues - a terrible attitude since he arrived from Arsenal. He was sensational for Arsenal who didn't pay him loads but now that he's got all the money he wants, football is secondary. Man City need players who care about the club - sadly I don't see too many of them around. The last thing English football needs is another 'Big Sam' type - it's old fashioned tactics like contributes in making the English national team rubbish. But yeah, Mancini is a typical Italian manager - defensive minded and not free flowing, though like Italian teams, he makes them hold on to the ball but there's not too much incentive for attack. To be honest, Man City haven't had an attack minded manager for ages - I actually can't remember the last one, probably Kevin Keegan in all honesty. The following ones have been quite defensive and put organisation ahead of attack. A change to attack would do them good I think.

matt spot on , Keegan probably was the last true attack manager , it's a bit sad aside from his taking off of tevez and occasional questionable tactics and squad selection the man did bring a cup and leauge title to the blue side of Manchester , I thank him for that

I can't see Mancini not being sacked after this season. After winning a league title a team should be even more hungry and City simply did not turn up this season.
Toure, Nasri, Hart etc all had very poor seasons. They did nothing in Europe.
Fergie must still be laughing at how easy it was.

Mancini is just not a good manager, he has had easy everywhere he has managed except Sampdoria. He won all those titles with Inter when the other big guns like Milan and Juventus were relegated and thrown out of Europe so lost their best players, then he has money to burn at City and still moans he needs more!!

Mancini's a good manager and I would like to see him at a club for a very long time, but I don't know enough about him as to how he wants to build his team. If he thinks buying his way to the top with superstars is the way forward then thats incredibly flawed - its that environment which has caused the complaceny I think and far too many egos with big wages doing nothing for the club. The buck stops with the players but Mancini is mistaken if he thinks thats how you build a quality side.
Man City need a proper team work and ethic to consistently challenge for trophies every year. Every league winning side has had its mix of unremarkable players - Parlour, Keown, Carrick, Fletcher (from Arsenal and United) but they blend effortlessly into the first team. Man City are just a bunch of individual superstars and nothing else at the moment. They need to get a good blend of youth in mixed with the top players who really want to succeed with the club (so bye bye Nasri etc) - for example, they should never have sold Daniel Sturridge, and now look at his performances for Liverpool.
If I was a City fan I would be disappointed to see him go - a 6-1 thrashing of United that will go down in history as one of the most incredible Premier League matches, an FA Cup and the much fabled League title. Every Man City fan should hold him as a legend for bringing the trophies after a 25 year drought. But whoever they get in next, they need to keep him for a long time, and he needs to know how to build a real football team, not just a team of individual superstars.
