Just noticed its 10 years to the date that Oasis played 3 nights in Finsbury Park.
The gigs have a special memeory for me cos the Saturday one (so its exactly ten years tomorrow for me) was my first ever Oasis gig.
Just wondered if anyone else on here went and would like to share their experiences.
I remember we travelled down from the Midlands on the train as scrawny kids - after the gig we even had to sleep outside Euston station until the morning when it opened back up (I was a student couldnt afford a hotel - the day to London had been steep enough)
I remember going in early, The Coral were on first (they'd just come on the scene) we missed them but then saw Proud Mary (they'd bougth out their debut album a year before on Noels Sour Mash record label), one of my favourite bands anyway and had seen them already. Then saw Cornershop (can only really remember Brimful of Asha, and them doing a cover of Norwegian Wood in punjabi i think ha), then saw Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, they were everywhere at the time and were the in band over here from the states. Then saw a rousing set from The Charlatans.
Then the big one, Oasis - I remember getting quite near the front and as soon as fuckin in the bushes kciked in it went absolutely banananas (perhaps the maddest I've experienced at any gig).
I also still have the t-shirt i bought that day - its a green one with a red northern soul style fist with oasis over the top and heathen chemistry underneath

We went down on the Sunday, set off from Leeds about 5am on the coach, half us was fucked by the time we got down drinking jack d's and coke on the coach, was a long day! Not one for getting that pissed at gigs but that was the worst i've been at a gig. I could hardly remember anything about seeing the Coral and Shack who I was looking forward to seeing. Used to love the big Oasis gigs like that.

I went all three nights. It was immense. The rowdiest crowd I've ever come across - especially the first night (when it rained up until Oasis came on). We had a Norwegian flag with us and everything. 'Force of Norway' painted on it. The flag reeked of piss and drugs even by time The Soundtrack of Our Lives were done. Amazing times.
The setlist was great, and the atmosphere electric. There was a few idiots ruining it for others, but all in all we were lucky.
I still to this day look back and wonder who on earth thought it'd be a good idea to serve beer in hard plastic bottles. Most injuries (and we saw many) were from bottles hitting people in the head that left them bleeding.

I remember this white rastafarian selling me a bottle of 'potion' saying that "laughing was like sneezing a million happy little animals outta yer mouth". I don't remember too much of the gig after that.

*Tin hat on*
Don't get the point in going to a gig and getting shitfaced so you can't remember any of it. There were 4 people around me at the Roses who were so far gone they had their eyes shut the whole gig, WHAT'S THE POINT?

Think it's kind of an age thing mate, I was only 19 when I went to see Oasis at Wembley and that was just as messy, then at 21 going to a big gig like Finsbury seeing Oasis you just sort of got a bit too excited for it at that age. When I saw Oasis at Manchester in 2005, one of the gigs I didn't drink and you could see all the younger ones that was just like us when we went to our first big outdoor gigs, they was in some right states. We always used to make a big lads weekend away out of it when the big outdoor Oasis gigs was announced which usually involved us drinking early doors then going to the gigs steaming.

I've never really understood the concept of going to a gig and getting pissed! I remember the Murrayfield gig in 09 everyone was hammered and lying on the front green outside murrayfield. Missed a quality gig. Don't really understand the concept myself.

They're so annoying for the people behind them, wanting to look at the stage.

Theres a difference between being pissed and being so drunk you cannot see, stand or remember anything. Getting to that state is never a good idea - speaking from experience - but I couldn't imagine going to a big gig sober. Alcohol loosens inhibitions and enhances good experiences, so it stands to reason that you'll enjoy yourself more. If you're into that sort of thing anyway, I understand that its not for everyone.
I think its hard to get completely smashed at a big gig anyway. I never normally bother with the support bands at smaller gigs, get suitably merry beforehand and roll in 5 minutes before the start - I think I actually enjoyed the two Beady Eye gigs I've been to more than Oasis because of this. At outdoor gigs though I normally go in a bit earlier, getting to the bar is usually a complete nightmare, then you stand desperate for a piss and think "fuck it, its not worth the hassle." By the time the gig starts you're beginning to sober up anyway, and outdoor gigs usually last longer than smaller gigs so you're going 2+ hours without a drink.
Just to get back on track though, I wasn't at Finsbury Park (my first Oasis gig was COMS in 2005), but its one of my favourite ever Oasis bootlegs. It has a bit of everything. Liam is on form and was probably the last major gig before his voice deterioration, the band sound very good, the setlist is excellent and varied. Heathen Chemistry was one of the best Oasis tours, despite the album being a bit cack.

Agree there Nyron - I'm pretty much the same.
And yeah even if I hadn't have gone to Finsbury Park - the bootleg is still one of my favourites and would be anyway.
Which day did you do City Of Manchester?
Still one of my favourite gigs that one, think it just pips Finsbury Park for me. Plus you can see me briefly in the crowd on the DVD just before they start Turn Up The Sun :-)

My second ever Oasis gig, after Glasgow Barrowlands in 2001. I went on the Saturday.
Maybe my least enjoyable, and the gig that was the start of them not being my favourite band anymore? I was 15, I'd travelled down to London, stayed with my cousin, and then me and him went to the gig. Saw all the supports. Proud Mary were terrible, Cornershop played their Indian version of Norwegian Wood.
I went for a piss just as BRMC started playing "Whatever Happened to my rock and roll", which was annoying. The Charlatans played a greatest hits set, that went down very well.
Lots of bottles and cups of piss being thrown. The crowd were, erm... yeh, rowdy. Lots of fights, drunk people, people off their faces, lots of pissing in cups. Pretty grim times for a naive 15 year old.
Oasis came on, I tried to get near the front as possible, Hello started and I just remember this surge of people! I couldn't cope, had to get out of there asap! Got to about halfway back, watched the rest of the gig, Oasis very average, not the band I fell in love with.
I did buy two excellent posters of Cigarettes and Alcohol and Live Forever for a fiver outside the gig though.
Saw Oasis twice more in Birmingham at the end of the tour, then never saw em live again. and I don't regret that!

Plus you can see me briefly in the crowd on the DVD just before they start Turn Up The Sun :-) I went on the first night, the Thursday. Didn't know what to expect, and I got separated from my mates almost as soon as we got into the ground, had no phone signal and couldn't find them all night. I stood and watched the Super Furry Animals on my own, looking and feeling like a complete dick, and was pretty near the front where people were starting to get a bit impatient. Then they played that Live 8 advert on the screens and the place went nuts at Noel's cameo, I've never seen a crowd at a gig go as wild from then on until they came on stage. I got kicked all over and trampled on throughout TUTS and Lyla, and performance wise its easily the poorest I've seen them, but it was the first and still one of the few gigs I've been to where everything just seemed a bit special from start to finish.

I'm really bummed that I've missed all this - I've been into Oasis since as far as I can remember, but my first gig was them here in Melbourne in 2005 when I was 12, which was the most insanely euphoric concert experience I've had ... but I missed them in 2009 as for some strange reason they never came out here, and I obviously couldn't go to another continent to see them ... but apart from perhaps Kasabian and Muse, I really wish there was another rock'n'roll band that would give me the same feeling as seeing Oasis, but that same emotional factor has been very hard to find with other bands. The whole thing of going to a massive stadium with your mates, and jumping up and to Bring It On Down, Morning Glory and Cigarettes and Alcohol, putting your arms around your friends and singing the guitar solo of Champagne Supernova, then just going beserk for Rock'n'Roll Star or My Generation or I Am The Walrus ... it's a real shame to have missed that bus, I tell you

Yeah the thing about getting pissed even at big gigs, i dont understand it at all. Being at T in the Park Friday and Saturday, i think i had 3 pints over the two days. Wasn't that arsed for getting pissed or even drinking at all. Had one Friday afternoon before Kaisers, the one i had Saturday Morning went down a treat, it was pissing it down with Rain, so it made it slightly better, everyone was nagging me Saturday afternoon to have more, but i stuck to my word to not kick the arse out of it, cos i was really wanting to see Noel and the Roses! If you want to get hammered, i'd suggest not to do it at gig, simply as you won't remember anything. Had hardly had anything to drink Saturday, and it was still one of the greatest days of my whole life. If you want to get hammered, go to a pub or a nightclub and do so! Don't spend money on a gig ticket, then extra for alcohol. Waste of money if you ask me.

People that stand there video the whole thing are as bad yeah. By all means video one song but not the whole thing. Pointless going to a gig and watching it on a tiny little screen.

I'm a bit slow heh but yeah, these shows were amazing. My first big Oasis gigs, I had been fan for 6-7 years and watched footage from Maine Road, Knebworth etc dreaming one day I'd attend a gig like that and here it was finally in Finsbury Park(honestly couldn't quite believe it, it was just one tube stop down the road from my current lodgings back then!). Friday I was working so arrived late afternoon, but got to the front on Sunday, absolutely mental day that! I think I'm still nursing some bruises from that The weekend ended awesomely with some random dude handing me passes to the after show party Couldn't believe my life to be real at that point to be honest! ps. Not everyone who doesn't drink just stand there and take photos+videos. Some people don't need their inhibitions lowered in order to let loose at a gig
