Right, so who was on the Whatever Mailing list all those many years ago during the madferrit days of the mid-90's while (What's The Story) Morning Glory and the gold and silver cigarette box sets were tearing through each of our discmans?? I used to wake up each morning, run to the computer and look forward to reading the 30-50 new e-mails in my AOL inbox from whatever@kuci.org. Those were the days when oasisnet looked like this: The good old days!! When there wasn't Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Soapbox, live4ever or any of the other great forums and blogs out there that we have these days. Just the Whatever Mailing list and alt.music.oasis (which I also frequented from time to time). Back when trading bootlegs required recording shows on a 90 minute casette and mailing them in the post! Oh nostalgia... So who was on it? And whatever happened to Ned Raggett anyway?

Oh the nostalgia!
In particular I remember the September 1996 drama (the US gigs that did not happen), it was the first thing I ever followed online in real time, minute by minute, from both sources that were available then. It was a bit tricky since I was on a (shared) office computer:-).
The misery of September 1996 was particularly poignant since in August 1996 Oasis were on such a high, the highest they ever got IMO.
I also seem to remember there were some online interviews at that time, you could send in questions and apparently the band really did answer, even though the typing was obviously not done by the band. But getting their comments online felt so special and advanced.

I wasn't on the Whatever mailing list, didnt have internet til 97, but I remember the old Oasis website: www.cts.browse/ginger or something. It's in the MG album sleeve with the credits. I do have those box sets though and I love them! I just wish they didnt use the same interview CD in both lol. Whatever should have been there on the first box instead, especially as singles were so hard to find in north america.

I signed up for the Whatever mailing list, but it was on the tail-end of its existence. I don't remember getting much email from them. I got involved in the madness in 98 around the time The Masterplan was released. That album's the one that put me over the edge and turned me into a super fan.
I used to check alt.music.oasis. I remember a dude named Nick Saunders doing some pretty good covers of Oasis tunes and some random dude who went by "Wedge" used to hit me up from time to time and he had a website which I THINK was oasiscentral.com or something like that.

I definitely remember Nick Saunders! He posted a lot of great covers on the Rock Covers and Magic Pie websites. Rockcovers.com was the start of a really great idea where fans would post covers of their favourite songs, and always immediately there was feedback from listeners. I had a lot of covers on that website (JP Zarka). Magic Pie as well, which was a site strictly for Oasis covers. These two sites didn't last long though which was a huge shame, especially since there wasn't much of an outlet for getting feedback for covers at the time (before the days of youtube). And God, Derek Gorman, I remember him. His oasisnews.com site, while informative for news etc (the original SCYHO of the 90's), he as a person I remember to be quite annoying with a very slappable looking face!

Ah yes, remember all this well. Wasn't on the email list but was on the postal mailing list and used to get the Christmas cards (long since lost/binned), poster offers etc.
The website used to take ages to load if I remember rightly, even though it had about two pictures/graphics on there.
Oh, those wonderful, innocent days...

I remember hearing full versions of You've Got To Hide Your Love Away and Sad Song on the website plus a 30 second clip of Whatever in real audio format. Ah, real audio...when it was enjoyable to listen to lossy as fuck recordings!

I used to be on that back in the day. Until it finally puttered out Was a great place for Oasis fans during their heyday though. Met a lot of really great people from that list. Ned's on Facebook. And hopefully Derek crawled back under the rock from which he came out of. That or he's still stalking Natalie Imbruglia lol

Question: Did you have a lot of trouble with Stevie Wonder over getting Step Out released? OasisCS: Noel> Yeah, because he took bloody ages approving the artwork.

This is a classic thread. Loved me some AOL back in the day. Same! I used to regularly frequent AOL private room: "Oasis" back in '96 and '97. There were a whole bunch of us regulars on there who would come on after school and chat to the late hours of the night. Off the top of my head I remember: Topher, Eric (JohnsoCDNE), Aaron (Oasis4U2NV), JP OASIS, Jerry, Erin, Amy and a hell of a lot more who's names simply slip my mind. I used to go by Oasis JP, I believe (and about 10 other aliases--I couldn't keep up my mind on a screen name back then!!) Wonder if these folks are still around? I keep in touch with Aaron still after all these years, but that's about it. A group of regulars from that chat room got together in Manhattan and stood outside MTV studios when Liam dropped by TRL in '97. You know, the infamous interview where Liam avoided all those questions from Carson Daly and instead spent the whole of the interview fixated on the LG sign outside of the studio since it shared his initials. Those must have been Daly's most awkward moments on air! I remember watching that interview waiting for the cameras to pan to the crowd outside wondering if any of my fellow private room oasis pals would show up on the telly. These were the days before digital cameras and all that so I had no idea what most of these people I talked to day in and day out online looked like. It was all a bit surreal and brings back many fond memories! Did anybody else on here drop into the old oasis chat room on AOL all those years ago?

The Liam/Carson interview was back in 1999, during the SOTSOG tour I would assume.

If anyone still has contact with this 'Derek Gorman' can someone please get in contact with him and ask him if he has anyone in his family called Dave if so tell him to contact @davegorman on twitter Anyway, back to the thread, as i'm a young 'un, and going back to the whole oasis sites thing, does anyone remember on the Oasis official site, when you could go on to the albums and listen to a 30 second sample of each song, the player would open in another browser window and no matter what browser you were using it would be an ancient version of WMP. Dunno if this is still on the site. I'll have a wee look just now hahah

Yeah, I was on the Whatever list, nice memories, there were also good people back on those days, I remember a lovely girl sent me 2 90-minutes-cassettes with all the b-sides because I wasn't able to get the UK singles here in Peru!! Or the Bonehead's stories!! or Derek Gorman posting pictures of Noel's kitchen on his website! that was too much for me....I used to trade a lot of VHS tapes and cassettes with people all around the world!! those were the days for oasis fans, really, fantastic days that will never come back...

In my time off from the site I completely missed this thread. My god, those were the days indeed! I actually came across a large pile of VHS and cassette bootlegs the other day...
I actually worked for Derek for a summer running oasisnews.com at age 14 or 15. He promised to lavish me with gifts from the store that he ran (which apparently was full of stolen goods) in exchange for running the site. For those of you that remember Derek, I'm sure you can imagine how that offer turned out. What a tool.
I remember most of the names mentioned above. Aaron used to post decent Oasis covers on rockcovers.com. The guy that ran that site...Dan something with a C? Anyway, I always enjoyed your work, too, JP! Glad I found this thread. Shocked to see people from then still kicking around Oasis fan sites!

I remember being a teenager and mixing it up with everyone on AMO. I think I went by OasisFan16 at the time thanks to my AOL account. I've often wondered if anyone I used to chat with on there uses this site now.
