Now then… Woke up yesterday to the news that there'd been - and I quote - a shooting rampage not five minutes from my hotel!! A SHOOTING RAMPAGE!!!!!!!!!! Apparently some kid (27) just randomly shot seven people in the street before he was himself shot in the head by the cops!!!! What the fuck?? I love this place, but fuck me, that's insane. Had a three hour drive to the gig that was in San Diego. I have to say it was a rather enjoyable journey. Pacific coast highway, beautiful sunshine, listening to tunes on headphones for three hours? I forgot when the last time was I had the pleasure of that experience. The gig was in some big fuck off arena. It was the local radio station's Christmas festival thing. They have a lot of them over here. They invite the acts that get the most airplay over the year and they must've been hammering the record. Haven't been invited to one for over 10 years, maybe even longer!!!! You only do 30 mins so it's a piece of piss and all. All the hits, thank you and goodnight. Got another one tonight for that radio station KROQ? Looking forward to it. It's only up the street here so the journey won't be anywhere near as enjoyable but it'll have the added thrill of maybe getting shot at!!! Wish me luck. In a bit. GD.

So comrades, for the last time in 2011… Yes!! Right… It's been a few days, so here's what I can remember. That KROQ thing was by far and away the most oddest "gig" I've ever done. Not for any particular reason other than it was just weird. These things are put on by the radio stations. So the people (competition winners) it seems are only interested in what they've heard on the playlist for said radio station. You play anything that hasn't been a single (whatever that means these days) and it's met with total apathy. By the same rule, you play anything they've heard on the airwaves and the place goes apeshit. Like I say… weird. I did get to meet that Florence lady from that Florence and the Machine. Nice girl. Couldn't be arsed sticking around to see the rest of the bands though (no offence). So, the next day we was up at Warner Bros' studio to do that Conan Show (O'Brien, not the barbarian). Long day. Did manage to jib up to Hillside Studios - where I mixed the HFB album - to watch Man City-v-Chelsea. We got beat. We were a bit unlucky. Not nice losing though as it's something we are not used to… this season anyway. The Conan thing was alright in the end. Now… Yesterday everybody flew back home leaving me here to shoot another video for yet another single. It's turning into a 'Thriller', this album. Four blimmin' singles!!!! Unheard of, eh?? I'm doing it with the same people that have done the previous three so far. Gotta say, it might have been THE MOST fun I've ever had on a video shoot EVER. I won't give the game away now but it was a proper laugh. Flying home myself today. Got a month or so off. Looking forward to seeing Nancy and the young guns. Next time you hear from me I'll be in the great city of Tokyo, in the great nation of Japan. Mad food!! Crazy kids!! Awkward interviews!! Sleep deprivation!! No wonder they call it the land of the rising sun. SAYO-fuckin'-NARA. GD.

Comrades… Let me start by wishing all of y'all a happy, happy new year.
I'm in the great city of Tokyo, in the great nation of Japan.
Got a couple of gigs here before I move on to Australia and New Zealand. Somewhat predictably it's freeeeeeeezing.
Did manage a little bit of kip last night which is always a nice bonus out here.
Looking forward to this 2012 business. If this year is half as good as last year then I might actually retire. What would be the point in carrying on??
And in any case, ain't the world supposed to end this year?? Fuck the Mayans, I say!!!
You currently find me watching the NFL play-offs. Mega game. 49'ers - Saints. Japanese commentary!! Very mad!!!
ONWARDS.
GD.

If this year is half as good as last year then I might actually retire. What would be the point in carrying on?? As long as there's tons of the people in the world that buying your record and paying for your gig, you're not allowed to retire, not even think about it, Mr Gallagher.

'Does he mean actual real blimmin' robots???'
Yes… Well, the promo stuff wasn't too painful. Quite enjoyable actually. Apart from one guy, who sounded like a coffee percolator when he spoke, it wasn't too taxing. I was asked many questions on many diverse subjects, such as… - The environment. - Politics. - New music, or the lack of it. - The Music Bizness… (it's a bit shit at the minute apparently… can't say I'd noticed!!). - Time travel (for real!!). - The earthquake. - Lady Gaga? - The Stone Roses. - Cream cakes. - Manchester City (obviously). - Mario Balotelli (naturally). - And somewhat predictably… the Japanese people (they're obsessed with what people think of them). As you can see all very interesting stuff. One guy showed me the magazine I'm doing an interview for and I have to say, if I didn't know any better, I'd have thought it was a porn mag judging by the cover!! Did a bit of rehearsing last night. Haven't played for nearly five weeks now. Just blowing off the cobwebs, so to speak. I tend to forget the guitar solos if I have any significant time off. Good job we did mind as a shit-load of cobwebs had grown!! Bit of a grey day today. I'm under orders from The Mighty I to go find him some toys. Specifically, and I quote, "Robots that walk and talk without batteries or remote control." Does he mean actual real blimmin' robots??? Good luck with that, eh?? ONWARDS. GD.

'It's a toy store… it sells toys… not kids… I'm not Madonna!!!!' Yes… Well, the gig went as well as could be expected for a band that ain't played for over a month. The old voice seems to have held up and all. I expect tonight to be a little bit better. Usually takes about 4-5 gigs to get back in the groove (not that we actually do groove!). Anyway, the usual suspects were all present. The "NOEL OR DIE" sign was down the front. Last time I saw it it was just a bit of yellow tape stuck on a black piece of fabric. It's gone all posh now!! Like a proper banner... Well done!!!! Now I don't know if you're aware of this but during gigs in Japan in between songs there is a deathly silence. Not sure why, but it's very disconcerting. At the end of any given song you get thunderous applause for about 10 seconds then... total silence. But last night, what can only be described as a little girl, kept shouting out rather odd "statements". She sounded EXACTLY like my eldest young son which, in itself, was quite off-putting. And this is what she had to say, and the fact that she was saying it with a slightly creepy steely-eyed stare, made it all the more weird… get on this: - NOEL, I LOVE YOU!! (Fair enough… what's not to love, eh?) - I LOVE YOU, EVEN WHEN I'M AT SCHOOL!! (Ok?) - CAN YOU KISS ME… PLEASE? (What, now? …Right now?) - NOEL, YOU ARE MY IDEAL MAN!! (Ideal man?) - CAN I MARRY YOU? (Erm… no.) - I WANT YOUR PICK!!! (Sorry….) She said PICK… my guitar pick, you filthy swine… I gave it to her after the show anyway, just to be nice and that (the pick!!). All in all a good night. I'm off to Kiddyland now to do a bit of shopping. It's a toy store… it sells toys… not kids… I'm not Madonna!!!! ONWARDS. GD. I was laughing out loud toward the end on my local train. People stared and I didn't care.

Yes… So did some mad Japanese breakfast TV show yesterday. It was bizarre to say the least. Hosted by a female comedian… what do you call them again, comedienne, or summat? Anyways, the interview went like what they do… the usual Q's followed by the usual A's when out of nowhere and without warning (actually there may have been a warning… hard to tell over here!) she starts singing that song by Mariah Carey (or is it Dolly Parton?), "I Will Always Love You"!!!!! She wasn't holding back either, she fuckin' belted it out. So she sings a chorus and a verse and the big fuck off ending… then… silence… Not so much as a titter from the studio audience… Nothing… I FUCKIN' LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!! The actual gig was really very good. Not only was it shocking to get back up to speed so quick, it was right up there with the best so far! My new biggest fan, that little girl was there again. She had the same clothes on (stinky little fish!!). She reiterated that she is indeed quite fond of me while holding up a letter for me like a religious artefact… strange kid. Gotta go. I've been up since 4.30am and I'm still running late… How can that be? ONWARDS. GD.

Dolly Parton actually wrote and sang the original. Whitney Houston sang the remake.
