I have a desktop PC running Windows XP.
There are horizontal moving lines on my monitor that are not very noticalble, looks like a TV channel that has not been tuned in properly.
I have tried 3 different monitors, 2 CRTs and one LCD. The lines are visible on each monitor. I have used the VGA out and DVI out (with a DVI to VGA converter) from the graphics card on my PC, and the motherboard graphics.
Depending on what resolution I set each montior to, the lines are still there, but lessened in each monitors native resolution. The lines are more prevalent in other resolutions.
I have tried setting the PC up in a different area of the room, with just monitor and PC connected directly to the wall sockets, no difference, as I thought it might be an interference issue.
I have reploaced the power supply unit as my last one packed in, but even with my last PSU the lines were there.
I have disabled my graphics card as I thought that may be faulty, and ran the onboard graphics card, but there is no difference.
I am sure it is not my graphics card or outside interference from speakers, and the PSU is up to the job, and it is defintely not a problem with any of the monitors. Is there anything else I could try?

only 2 things I could think of: - run some memory diagnosis test - get the Hiren's Boot CD. there's a "Mini Windows XP". try booting with that and see if the lines are still there.

Hi Eva, I ran some memory diagnosis tests, all fine. I loaded Mini Windows XP and beacuse that is set to a very low screen resolution, the lines appeared a lot worse. I am really baffled by this, surely it must be something simple?

I know you said you've tried both the VGA and the DVI sockets with no difference, but did you use the same cable?

If its happening with both of your graphic cards it could be a motherboard problem. Try updating your motherboard drivers and see if that helps.

you considered the interference issue... but you can also try in another place, a friend's house. it could it be from power lines or something near by
