I really do believe though, that If I Had A Gun could turn out to be the best Noel song since Don't Go Away. Noel hasn't made a truly great melody in my mind, since DGA.That is quite a bold statement, spaneli. You're really dismissing an entire decade of the man's work. I can think of several post-DGA songs with excellent melodies...including The Importance of Being Idle, the acoustic version of Waiting for the Rapture, and the Hindu Times demo. Also I think people are really putting too much stock into the soundcheck as to how IIHAG might sound. For example, if people had only heard Supersonic based on THIS soundcheck version: They'd get a totally different impression of the song than the album version. Just from a melodic standpoint, I think IIHAG sounds a lot like Sunday Morning Call...with unassuming verses and a semi-soaring chorus. And like SMC, I have a feeling it'll only be as good or bad as the production makes it.

The first minute sounds a bit like something that Owl City dude would create. lol
This has made me even more interested in hearing a version with more instrumentation. I hope this is a tune the Wired Strings are on. And actually the drums during parts of the chorus made perk up a bit as well.
Wonder if the last bit, the la la la lalala, was actually finished lyrically. I doubt it. Noel isn't much for lalala bits.
Very good. I enjoyed that.

This is probably the song I am looking forward to hearing most. Such a beautiful melody and lyrics. Good job by the way, your version sounds great!! Although I'm pretty sure Noel said that it "sounds great on acoustic guitar" so I reckon the song will stay quite close to the soundcheck we heard!

Not really a bold statement. The Hindu Times melody is one of the worst melodies that Noel has ever written. What makes that song in its demo form, are the riff and the drums. But the melody as whole is below average for Noel. I like TWFR melody, but it's not that good. It's not a melody that I would automatically say is even in Noel's Top 40. It's a middle of the road melody for me. TIOBI has a pretty good melody. I like it a lot, but I'm putting If I Had A Gun, ahead of it. Even in an "incomplete" form, the chord sequences to If I Had A Gun blow away TIOBI imo.

I don't wanna go all 'Alan McGee' but if it was to sound something like this then it could be the closest Noel ever gets to another Don't Look Back In Anger.
Imagine that the crowd singing with Noel as that chorus kicks in.....

Imagine that the crowd singing with Noel as that chorus kicks in..... I don't really get that comparison. DLBIA is an anthem. I don't see any anthemic qualities in IIHAG. It certainly has the potential to be a really pretty song. I would put it more in the category of LTBL or Talk Tonight on steroids kinda. If this song isn't a full on mega ballad with strings and shit, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. We may want to wind down the hype machine a tad on this to not overdo it (not gonna happen, i know).

Really brilliant. The only thing I'm scared of is Noel's execution. Noel sometimes has a problem when it comes to taking something from his acoustic, and then translating it to a proper song in the studio. That's really the one big wild card in all this. Waa he able to translate this in the studio? I'm hoping he executed this track well. If he did, then we certainly have something special on our hands.

How had I not come across that before? It was so weird to listen to at first, knowing the album version so well, but I kinda like it.

My only "worry" on this subject is that he's made comments in the past about "flag-wavers" and i wonder if he'd steer away from making it what I think everyone's expecting. Seems like everyone's coming up with their own versions etc...i just think some of you should be careful. Not that I don't have faith in Noel, but I can see the backlash already brewing for this song. IT'S COMING!

Second that! Hoooray! It seems that the remix has gone down well among you lot, so I've made an attempt to do soemthing similar to "everybody's on the Run" But beware... I wasn't able to recreate the "Gallagerish" guitarsound, so sadly it sounds a bit 80'ies. In the worst possible meaning.. Keep an open mind, yeah? ;D here goes: soundcloud.com/sonic_productions/everybody-on-the-run-remix

You're almost like Jeff Lynne resurrecting "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love".

outiside of the super-cheesed toy xylophone intro and outro it's ok.

I kind of agree actually. These remixes are awesome, but they'd be so much more awesome without the cheesy xylophone parts.
Regardless, you definitely have a career as a music producer in your future, if you decide to pursue that, ksnoek. Really nice interpretations of these songs from just simple acoustic soundchecks.
