I realize this an Oasis forum, and Oasis and country music don't overlap, but I was wondering what anyone thought about it. I'm talking about stuff like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and more recently alt. country bands like the Jayhawks and Old 97's. Personally, I love me a little country. I can't stand the garbage they play on the radio now, but it's foolish to discount an entire genre based on the shit the radio plays.
I can't be the only one here who likes it, can I?

I might start with Johnny at San Quentin. It's him performing live at a prison. It covers all the basics and is Cash probably at his most badass.

cash is a legend. I go to school in Nashville so I'm surround by both the history and the modern poppy side of country. I usually prefer bands that have country influences like early wilco and whiskeytown but straight up country is solid.

A bit close minded, no?
This, for example, is a fucking great song. Sort of like country music on crack.

"Greetings From Nashville" by Jason and the Scorchers is an awesome country-boys doing rock n roll song.

The clue is in the name. vaginary music. Ignorant or what? There's a lot of rubbish in country music (Dolly Parton?!), but the ones mentioned here are quality. Two words sum up the brilliance and best of country music and that is Johnny Cash. Even the likes of legends like Elvis and Ray Charles have been influenced by country music, showing how important has been in music.

Johnny Cash is indeed bloody f*cking amazing. A Boy Named Sue gives me laughes everytime. His early stuff is just brillant, and the American recordings are a pleasure to my ears. With that old rispy voice.
I also like Hank Williams. Most of you will know 'Hey Good Looing' from GTA:SA if you've played that.

Considering Dolly Parton wrote Jolene, one of the greatest tunes of all time regardless of genre, it's a bit ignorant to call her rubbish!

I like what I suppose is considered 'Classic American Country', ie., Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, that kind of thing. Wouldn't like any modern stuff I've ever heard.
There's an absolutely GOD-AWFUL style here call 'Country & Irish', I'm sure it's quite possibly the worst genre of music ever conceived. Most of it's stars claim to have been influenced by the names I listed above. Personally I don't see ANY connection.
This is probably my favorite country song; "And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad So I had one more for dessert", what a lyric !!!!
