Let's put it this way: If Obama was presiding over a steadily improving economy, with unemployment consistently dropping every month, it would be indicative in his approval numbers and would be able to ride it out to the election. If Obama was presiding over a steadily improving economy, with unemployment consistently dropping every month, he'd be a miracle worker, not a politician. Every economy in the western world is fucked, because people like your heroes Blair and Bush built a house of cards just waiting to come crashing down one day, which it has and its going to take years to repair things no matter who is in charge and what their policies are.
