It doesn't matter who's fault it is. Obama can not win with unemployment at 8.9%. He would be voted out. This could easily be a repeat of the 1992 election. George H. W. Bush had foreign policy successes, and coming out of Desert Storm had approval ratings in the 80s, only to lose the election a year later due to the economy. "It's the economy, stupid!" Stop kidding yourselves. This has no implication for 2012. Once this rotates out of the news cycle, you'll see that I'm right. You're wrong. You HOPE it won't have implications because you're a Republican. Comparing Desert Storm (which lasted two days) with a ten year search and finally the death of America's worst mass murderer in history is a bad comparison. 9/11 still hasn't left the news cycle 10 years later... And the economy is Bush's fault. Prove otherwise. No. It's about the economy. Simply look it up if you don't believe me. Presidential elections are more often than not decided by the economy. I'm not discussing this concept anymore. If you choose to remain ignorant, that's not my problem.

The US annals of history are very clear on one point, what happens during a certain presidents tenure is NEVER the result of what he personally has done. You cannot affect change enough in 4 or even 8 years to really achieve anything substantial.
Credit lies with a whole host of people connected to this triumph regardless of political party affiliation.

oh get off it. either party elected in '08 would've been fucked. the economy's terrible, and the opposing party would bitch and whine no matter what happens. and that's why politics are a complete joke. the only real purpose politics serve is to enable adults to act like children.

I love this and am going to use it word-for-word at the next dinner party I attend.

Makes sense. You're right, I'm ignorant.

It's much more complicated than that. If you really want to play this game, you should know that Obama has outspent Bush in his first 2 years, and has added more to the National Debt in his first 19 months than all presidents from Washington through Reagan combined.....

Pretty shit debate/discussion skills for a "political scientist", then again, that type of debate/discussion fits in perfectly with the current state of things. Precisely why nothing ever gets done in D.C.

hahahahahahahahaa 'Political Scientist' hahahahha
I always think of the best scientists are the ones who try to find a truth from an objective starting point. You are so horribly deformed by right wing politics how can you even attempt to comment on something objectivly when you always start off on the basis that the conservatives are correct.
You should be banned for calling someone else ignorant.

And presidential campaigns don't actually matter (caveat: they only matter in close elections like Al Gore vs. George Bush or if one side doesn't campaign at all and the other does....but in the general scheme, they don't matter). There are facts. But when listed here, you have people saying it's not true. Whatever. At least I understand the fundamentals to elections. I just wish people would want to learn as well.

i think you're missing something in that argument, l4e. there's no denying that the economy makes up a huge part of elections. we simply disagree with your premise that it's the only major issue that makes up elections. i strongly believe that foreign policy will play as big a role in the upcoming election as the economy. (i'm not the only one who believes that, by the way. 1 2) to assume that it won't is ridiculous, especially after the numerous revolutions and overthrows in tumultuous regions that have taken place this year alone. it's also suffice to say that the reason the economy will be a major issue is not due to the economy, but because it's one of the few things republicans can pin obama and the democrats on. (even though their economic policies got us into this mess in the first place.) even the ap has noticed this.
