Lillywhite is the key why this record sounds so fresh. Sardy was such a heavy rock guy and wanted everything turned to 11. Lillywhite has helped bands create masterpieces: Las and Morrissey among them. Listen to Morrissey's Vauxhall and I and you get the same feeling. He is not one to layer on 5 guitars. He knows open spaces work as well as instruments.
The songs are good, really good, but Sardy would have made a shat sandwich out of this album...

There is some very audible distortion on a few of the tracks but for the moment I'll put that down to a low quality leak.

I rather listen to Sardy's Wolfmother album, DOYS then Lillypads DGSS.

^So do it then. Leave this thread for the people who really want to talk about Lillywhite's production on DGSS.

I second that. It'll be a huge let down if Noel works with him on his solo album.

I usually hate anything that Jeff says, but this time he is right on. Lilywhite has done a fabulous job on this record.

haha why all the sardy hate? i think he was decent. but his recordings were a lil muddy. the thing that lillywhit has done, you can tell, is get a crisp amazing tone for every instrument. like the roller is so fresh it almost shines to my ears! these songs all sound so fresh almost dare i say like a pop record. so im not sure why liam called oasis pop compared to this ( or was that andy?)
anyway.. sardy brought a lot to the band, and no one will say that HC sounded better than any sardy moments. noel on his own didnt have the wherewithal. mike stent did make the best sounding oasis album. SOTSOG. most agree with this. but lillywhite i may say made the second best sounding!!!

The only thing Sardy ever done wrong was not having the balls to tell Liam to do another vocal take on 'Love Like A Bomb'

Nothin wrong with the production, some people might call it 'over-compressed', but thats what gives it balls. All in all it sounds quite warm n very 'full' n bright. I do get the impression that Liam, Gem n Andy (and Noel in particular on latter Oasis albums), purposefully get the producer to recreate Beatles sounds, drum sounds in particular (i.e. And The Beat Goes On/Wigwam, and even Bag It Up on DOYS, they all have that Ringo sound to them).
Only criticism so far is the vocal sound on Standing On The Edge Of The Noise. Way too trashy, don't get me wrong its the sorta song that needed a bit of edge to the vocals but its way overdone on that track.
Nothing wrong with Dave Sardys production, he produces in a very classic kinda way and I personally love the hard-hitting n aggressive style he brings to albums.

Lillywhite has helped bands create masterpieces: Las and Morrissey among them. Listen to Morrissey's Vauxhall and I and you get the same feeling. This is exactly what I'm talking about. There's this vibe/sound that just marries up Vauxhall & DGSS. Its beautiful. I respect Sardy he did some great work with Oasis, particularly on DBTT, I just feel that Lillywhite was the perfect guy to come in and help Oasis shed that Oasis sound and sound like Beady EYE. IMO this album sounds nothing like Oasis yet you can still get that Oasis vibe. Really feels like LAG have crossed that different fork in the road. Cant wait for part deux, hope Lillywhite is on it as well.

I actually think Sardy's did an incredible job on Oasis stuff. SOTSOG and DOYS are my tied for "best sounding" Oasis records. His work on that recent Band Of Horses record is particularly noteworthy...WOW.

Since DBTT I wanted Lillywhite, when you hear some of his produced albums you know that he is the right person to produce an Oasis album.
Liked Sardy and he made some great work with the band, DBTT was good produced but some songs were too loud and others too quiet, maybe the reason for that is that they recorded songs in differents studios, but o DOYS his production is great, lots of found sounds and has a great flow til TBWTL.

I really dig the production on this album. Yes a couple tunes are a bit rough (BTL, SOTEON) but overall sound is spot on. The leak quality is very good and clear however the CD quality will be much better. But in all, not bad.

lillywhite is one of the best producers out there. production is as much what you don't do as what you actually do. he's one of the few producers these days who understands that.

I think Sardy did great of DOYS. The production was part of what was best about that album for me! You can't blame him for the crap latter half of the album or HHL. No different production could make AGN, TNOR, HHL, or SO sound any better than they did IMO. And Gem says the idea to put no guitars on TBWTL was his idea so we can't blame Sardy for that either.
It's a combination of Noel picking wrong tracklistings (is it just me or did he seem to force himself into a bit of a quota system when Andy and Gem joined? 3 for Liam, and 1 each for Andy and Gem and the rest for himself...) and certain internal events within the band that caused songs to remain unfinished..also not Sardy's fault.
Lay off the man.

When your Standing On The Edge Of The Noise,I'd imagine your vocals would sound rather trashy.I've never been there so I'm grasping straws. Lillywhite has apparently.
