My friend found this, fucking complete bullshit. Champagne Supernova, IMO, may be one of the most beautiful songs in history. Whoever wrote this is so stupid. www.spike.com/blog/top-7-worst-guitar/71484"7. Oasis "Champagne Supernova" Noel Gallagher is not a good guitar player. That’s right, I said it. Anyone who thinks Noel Gallagher is a good guitar player should simply revisit his Oasis catalogue. I’m not saying the dude can’t write a catchy tune, I’m just saying he’s not as skilled as everybody makes him out to be. That's why he went ahead and let former Jam frontman Paul Weller provid the lead guitar and some of the backing vocals on the track. I like me some Jam, but this one just didn't do it for me. Very few songs by the British supergroup are known for their amazing musicianship and the guitar playing in “Champagne Supernova” is no different. You can’t really hear all of the solo, but what you can make out sounds like someone is raping a Gibson ES-335. Yuk."

There's nothing worse then a journalist pretending to know anything about music.

i haven't seen Noel fuck-up during a gig, and considering he's playing to stadiums filled with thousands, i'd consider him a good guitarist. im not saying hes shit - hes not, hes good at guitar. but not THAT good, not as good as youd expect a famous rock star to be. but that dosent matter, as long as their music is good. and they have gem, who is a fantastic guitarist and how does playing to massive stadiums matter?

You don't have to bloody run your fingers up and down a fret board like a fucking maniac to be a good guitarist lol. He's as good as needs be. The end.

He's not Hendrix or fucking Jimmy Page because he doesn't need to be in order to be a great guitar player (and amazing songwriter).

He was (briefly) the most melodic guitar player in the world. The little riffs he spits out all of DM and MG are more memorable than most vocal melodies. I think that is really something. There was a time when he had more melody lines than he knew what to do with...
So yeah, not technically astounding, but he developed his own style and elevated the songs. Which is "good" by my reckoning.

Okay, he may not be the best guitarist in the world, he even admitted it in an interview for his appearance with The Who, but still as said he's the best for what he is needed for. Besides, who can't say the Live Forever solo is not just beautiful? And the thing was cut for being too long damnit . I also posted this elsewhere here before, but its worth a second post... (Note what song it is too)

Well, he's really just an intermediate guitar player, technically speaking - which is fine for the music they generally play. It's about melody and enhancing a fooking song, and Noel nails that (or used to at least).
But Champagne Supernova solo is perfect for the song.

Didn't Weller play the guitar solo on Champagne because Noel couldn't at the time?

i think noel once described himself as a really good rhythm guitarist. that speaks for itself. not often do you see rhythm guitarists pumping out ridiculous guitar solos. they're job is to play the main rhythm and i think that's partly why oasis are so successful. by being lead, noel just takes the rhythmic playing a bit further to make the songs catchy as fuck and he leaves the bare chords to bonehead/gem.

what an idiot. He plays a gibson 335 in the video eh? that's why it says "epiphone" and has a frequensator tailpeice then. The guy sure knows a lot about guitars for him to be critiquing guitarists.

I would never say Noel is a very inventive guitarist but he does have his own style. and even Noel said he doesn't like doing anything extra if he doesn't have to

what this because noel isnt hendrix that makes him crap.. nah, their is more to a song than a bloody guitar solo, look at bands like the Ramones sold millions of album the songs are catchy as fuck but i think out of about 400 songs or somthing ridiculos like that not one guitar solo. and for the record noels solos ARE crap compared to like the likes of slash hendrix and crazy metal guitarist, but they are solos that enphisise the Oasis songs.
BUT to say the champaign supernova solo is crap is a MASSIVE understatment noel has got plenty of technical guitar skills.
the question is does this guy know anything about music at all except for his own music library? i think not.
