Just looking through my library this morning making a playlist. And got to my Radiohead section. I've got all the records, been a fan for many years. I was listening to some tunes off of OK Computer, and I just don't get it. I don't get how that album is always top 10 in every greatest album poll, magazine story, etc. I remember in High School and in College everyone being up their ass, "it's such a great record, etc. etc."
It has three incredible songs; Paranoid Android (cause of the freak out in the song), Let Down, and the kick ass closing song on the album, an amazing guitar solo might I add. I don't see how its always a top ranked album. People need to stop drinking that kool aid.
I hope 11 years on, people realize its not that great of an album. Its good, but it not 10 top of all time good.
Just had to get that off my chest.

Its a good album for me its 4/5. Airbag-Its alright nothing to special over rated by the fans Paranoid Android-Its a great song its the perfect length, great songwriting Subterranean Homesick Alien-Another great song I love the effects and the chorus is just so strong. Exit Music (For a Film)-Another just "Ok" track the mellotron choir is pretty cool actually but it just comes of as a mumbly Thom Yorke Song (though some might think thats every song haha) even when everything kicks in. Let Down-One of the best songs that they've ever done. The guitars are just shimmering and I love the off beat its got some great lyrics. Karma Police-Its a solid song not great but not to bad. The only part that i find interesting is the last two minutes. Fitter Happier-This track is a joke. Its pointless to put it on there. A waste of a track. Electioneering-Sweet ass riff and the songs only true rock songs. But the rest of the song lacks that certain something. Climbing Up the Walls-Pretty good track love the effects once again but only the last part really interests me but that last part just blows my mind. No Surprises-I used to hate this song. Now I find it to be the best on the album. Everything is just about perfect. Love the less produced feel of the song. Great lyrics from Thom and the Bass is pretty good. Lucky-A great song love the tone of the guitars. Great lyrics. Its just a really good track. The Tourist-Its alright its got some good guitar lines in there. Its a solid closer but I find myself stoping listen to the album at Lucky about 50% of the time. yeah its a shitty review but i just got up so whatever... You get the general idea on what i think of the album. Its a great album but The Bends and In Rainbows are just on another level. Yeah but also i think its over rated by the press. Its great like I said but this album is not one of the top ten or five albums ever made. My Radiohead Album ratings Pablo Honey-3/5 The Bends-5/5 OK Computer-4/5 maybe 4.5/5 on a really good day lol Kid A-3.5/5 maybe a 4/5 if i'm reading a book Amnesiac-3/5 Hail To The Thief-2.5/5 In Rainbows-5/5

People need to stop drinking that kool aid. Talk about an expression getting overused. Great album, not as good as the The Bends though. Anyone who disagrees need to know that ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!

I feel exactly the same way, very highly overrated album.
I'll take The Bends, thank you very much

One of the best albums ever made, if not # 1.
All of the songs on the album are brilliant (excluding Electioneering, which is just okay).
fuck, I haven't listened to it in a long time, think I'll do it now.

Its pretty good. I like it and all, but its not a classic classic. They were compared to Pink Floyd at different stages, and its no Dark Side of the Moon.

this album deserves every top 10 ranking!
probably the best lyrics of all times, awesome songs and it's produced with such passion that it comes as close to perfection as you can get.
a milestone in music history.

I understand, at that time, rock music was basic. Not necessarily in a lull or anything. 97 was interestng year. US was mired in post grunge - STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, NIN, etc. BritPop was ongoing Oasis was at their peak. I can see how it was the different for the time.

As I’ve mentioned several times before, I saw Radiohead during the OK Computer tour in 1997, best show I’ve ever seen…. God bless.

Some people are bemused by it due to the majority of the songs being a hard listen.
I've had times when I loved the whole album, but at other periods in my life felt it was massively over rated. Think a lot is dependant on how you're feeling at the time.
Music journos love it, but I prefer The Bends over OK Computer.

For the life of me, I have never seen the attraction of Radiohead and the adulation that OK Computer gets is totally beyond me.
My brother is a massive fan, and I have tried to listen to them more than a few times. Just not for me.

It’s interesting this thread got the bump the last few days. I’ve been listening to the 2018 minidisc hack just last week. It’s so fascinating that so much of what became of Ok Computer was worked out on the road opening for Alanis Morissette in 1996 while in America. Very cool early soundboard recordings of all those Ok Computer tracks. Must have been mental for that type of audience to hear.

My first Radiohead album was Kid A and I was blown away by it. So when I checked the overly hyped OK Computer it felt like a step back (which is exactly what it is chronologically) and much less interesting. I'm sure it's a great album but I'm more interested in what they did from Kid A onwards.

I'm sure it's a great album but I'm more interested in what they did from Kid A onwards. I'm in the same boat. For me I think it has something to do with the influences. OK Computer displays prog rock influences, a genre that I have absolutely no interest in. Meanwhile, Kid A digs into electronic influences that I have a lot of time for. I prefer the minimalist sound, it's a real vibe album that you can focus on or have on in the background while doing some work. I like its dark and ominous sound. OK Computer leaves me feeling nothing, like a good few of their albums thereafter. Outside of Kid A, the only other Radiohead albums I'd rescue in a housefire are The Bends and A Moon Shaped Pool. I like the straight forward rock of the former and the cinematic beauty of the latter.
