Cascade by Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2
The whole Star Stuff album is really freaking cool. I played "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This" on my Google Home and the next song it shuffled to was JBS by Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2. I liked it so much that I put on the whole rest of the album, and now here we are.

Sometimes I make the mistake of taking songs for granted. Songs that have always been there and you acknowledge that they're good, but either you've played them too much or you just haven't paid enough attention. I'm On Fire by Bruce Springsteen is(or was) one of those songs for me. The lyrics are fairly straightforward, rhyming fire with desire isn't exactly brilliant... but it simply doesn't matter. The melody is great, and the authentic delivery of those lyrics makes all the difference. The production, which can be a bit hoakey on the rest of Born In The USA, creates the perfect atmosphere and mood for the song to make you feel just what Bruce feels. A dark and quiet room with headphones on while playing this song is an experience. A short one, but a great one. It's quite simply songwriting of the highest level.

Nothing's gonna change my world. Back in 2002-2003 I once dreamed that Oasis would record this song as a future b-side. Thought it would be perfect for Liam. When Beady Eye releases their version I found it horrendous. It sounded so cliche and Liam sounded dreadful. I realize it was probably rushed for that Japan Charity fundraiser but my god I wish it came out better.

"Would it make you feel much better, if it was you against the world?
If you were an alien, If it were conspiracy?
And would it hurt to live in comfort, if you found someone to trust?
If you knew that you were with us, if we shared a common goal..."

I was giving a lecture on the concept of entropy yesterday and I linked this tune to my students. I'm not a huge fan of Muse but they do have a few gems.

Some Ulrich Schnauss on a Sunday morning. Not bad. When I saw Ed O’Brien in concert in NYC last month he covered this song. Great stuff.
