Hmmm, I like it, but then he said It's A Beautiful World was what he was thinking of the world at the time, and Fort Knox kinda emphasises the fact that we just need to get on with it. It's too serious for WBTM basically.
That latest Unloved album is amazing btw.

And I wish it were. Moon always felt 1-2 tracks short. 1. "Fort Knox" 2. "Holy Mountain" 3. "Keep on Reaching" 4. "It's a Beautiful World" 5. "She Taught Me How to Fly" 6. "Interlude (Wednesday Part 1)" 7. "This is the Place" 8. "Be Careful What You Wish For" 9. "Black & White Sunshine" 10. "Black Star Dancing" 11. "If Love Is the Law" 12. "The Man Who Built the Moon" 11. "End Credits (Wednesday Part 2)" + Dead in the Water And that ends up being a pretty good album, to me. It also expands upon the electronica influences scattered throughout the album.

I never heard of this before. I prefer what Noel did with it on This is the place though. I'm not a fan of the intro and chorus from "It’s Over, If We Run Out Of Love" and Raven Violet's vocals are kind of bland and dull. And it definitely wouldn't have been a good opener for Who Build The Moon (although I do love Fort Knox so that might be why I don't see this one instead). "Who Build The Moon" and "This is the place" both have a certain energy that this doesn't have.

Clearly Noel wanted a more streamed line version of it.

Wow that's a lot better than most of what Noel released. Definitely a missed opportunity.

Was thinking the same when I heard it a couple of months ago and without knowing that this was supposed to be a song for Noel. Same with some of the sounds from Holmes on his soundtracks etc. Following the dude for quite a while and always enjoyed his works - so kinda disappointed about the result of his collaboration on the Moon LP. Still not sure though who to blame for this disaster

So at the end of the day, they're Noel's songs and as much as Holmes is involved, Noel remains Noel and there's no way he would have given complete creative control to anyone. The This is the Place thing is a good example, I'm not surprised at all.

This is the Place does nothing for me so I'm not bothered that it didn't appear. WBTM is a few tracks short though.

I agree with those who say 'WBTM?' is a few tracks short however 'It’s Over, If We Run Out Of Love' isn't the answer for me. I much prefer Noel's rework of the track, which I reckon is one of his best post-Oasis tracks. To my ears 'Fort Knox' is the much better opener anyway.

Depending on a producer’s bargaining power and what they want out of life, they might accept a fatter producing fee in exchange for letting the artist take all the credit for singing over a track which was already prepared. I’m not suggesting anything underhand about the Noel/Holmes relationship, but just because he wasn’t credited as a co-writer doesn’t mean he didn’t contribute in such a way that he could have been credited as one.

Oh I know and I'm convinced Holmes could have had some writing credits. That's actually why I compared it to Pretty Boy, Johnny Marr's technically writing his own parts that make the song what it is. Writing credits are a whole other rabbit hole but the point I wanted to make was just that, in the end, Noel is in control of the end product and he likely won't ever accept it otherwise unless of course it was a joint production like a proper Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds/David Holmes record. But he's too much of a control freak to do that I think.

Their songs get shaped and shifted in so many ways and forms depending on the producer and it's maddening, especially when a bland producer like Ryan Tedder consistently gets pulled in.

Oh, I’m familiar. The fact that Summer of Love is credited to U2 - when it was a Twenty One Pilots demo with a few of the lyrics changed - doesn’t reflect especially well on the band.

Oh, I’m familiar. The fact that Summer of Love is credited to U2 - when it was a Twenty One Pilots demo with a few of the lyrics changed - doesn’t reflect especially well on the band. This is the point at which an artist is in trouble creatively. Whereas previously U2 would utilise producers for sonic purposes, the fact that they were needing a naff songwriter like him to write melodies is a red flag for me. In fairness to Noel, I don't think that has happened (barring dubious debates about The Real People's contribution to a few earlier Oasis tracks). I can believe Holmes had a lot of influence of the backing tracks, Noel commented that he would jam a lot in the studio and the next morning Holmes would have completely edited and incorporated into other tracks. I think that's cool, and a producer should be able to embellish songs with his own ideas (something which I think is lacking with Noel's self-produced EPs which I always think feel a bit lightweight sonically).
