I love Noel, but even I am getting a little tired of him saying during EVERY SINGLE ALBUM CYCLE how he's got "loads of songs leftover!" and then we wait another 3-5 years to hear them. Although I share your irritation (May 2023 is ludicrous given the album is apparently done...) that's just Noel being Noel. He always said he didn't care about releasing records quickly and going back in the studio and on tour etc. That was Liam. He's always been more "it'll be out when it comes out" to my dismay as a fan. As for this record, since he released Pretty Boy in the fall, I thought we'd have a similar release schedule as Chasing Yesterday, with another single in the winter and an album in March. But May? Fucking hell...

Just listened to the interview and clearly they've recorded live versions of Supersonic and Pretty Boy acoustically. Will they ever see the light of the day?
Do they usually broadcast these songs?

Especially since it's been five years since the last one and it'll be nearly six years when it's actually released.

Fucking hell... In fairness, the EPs and Best Of cleared out a few of what would have been left over after WBTM. We effectively got a double album there. I think when Noel talks about leftover songs they’re in various stages of completion and not all sitting on the shelf ready to go.

This is probably the truth, but it is not what he said. He claimed to have two albums worth of songs where he just needs the “final, final bit of lyric” to finish them off. He’s such a cock tease. X

Interesting to hear the acoustic version of Supersonic. Reminded me of the rearranged Live Forever he played recently. Maybe we will get that album of acoustic Oasis reworks at some point. X

Enjoyed finding out that the Black Star Dancing drum beat was a preset demo pattern in the drum machine. (-:

It wasn’t just him straight solo either - there’s a piano on there. Dunno if they were recorded for the beeb or done in his own studio, but I hope these acoustic versions get released in full. X

I only mention it because he said it himself: “I would be interested in doing an album of reworks in the style of that version [of ‘Live Forever’]. A bunch of Oasis reworks might be nice to do. The original version is a young guy’s song who is singing it with his life in front of him. When I hit that chord, I was like, ‘Ah, this is like an old fella’s chord, who is looking back on his life.' There is always a plan to take that out properly with an orchestra on tour, but I am not sure when that will happen because of the Covid shit.” The original source was The Daily Star though. X

Didn't expect him saying that after consistently distancing himself from most Oasis-related things in the last few years & saying his former band is no longer where he's at artistically since he's gone solo. Yeah, think Noel meant (and still means) that he has no desire to write arena rock songs.
Nothing unusual about a songwriter thinking about reworking his old material in new ways (although it does actually have to go somewhere truly new and illuminating to work!).
The thing that is unusual is for a songwriter to have a brother who does the old material in the old ways that people still love all over the world. That is a whole other thing...
Noel said in several interviews of the WBTM/EPs era that he was tired & bored of having to play Oasis songs for the audience who wanted to hear them at gigs, & reluctantly did it while thinking "Well, at least I wrote them..." (sly dig at Liam). This is one example a quick Google search gave me but there were many others: www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/9872455/noel-gallagher-oasis-songs-fans/

Any thoughts on the actual program and not just in here to jump and make your usual clarifications where we end up extending a thread for five more pages than it needs to be?

Can’t hate it that much. X He never said he hated those Oasis hits, but that he'd moved on artistically since that & he was quite dismayed that his audience hadn't & still wanted him to play the same Oasis tunes as if it was still 1996. I understand that he could feel frustrated to be pigeonholed forever as the Oasis hitmaker, but that's what happens to everyone who's had a successful career early on, it's hard to match it afterwards with later songs, especially it they're changing musical styles, so the audience will inevitably be asking for the well-known hits. But he himself catered to that in latter Oasis tours when the setlists would rehash the same 94-95 tunes over & over. I think his dismissive stance on Oasis fans around 2017-19 was partly due to some sort of midlife crisis for whatever reason, as he was being so negative overall in interviews, they were quite tedious to read/listen to; he'd lost his sense of humour & lightness of mind back then & turned into a bitter old man relentlessly complaining. Nowadays he seems to have reverted to his usual self, his recent interviews were far more positive & enjoyable; in that regard it can explain that he'd be more open to the idea of playing Oasis songs again.

I think it might have been as much about a bit of nervousness about how some of the new songs would go down as anything - getting in his retaliation first, as it were. He was poking at Oasis fans back in the Chasing Yesterday era by dedicating You Know We Can't Go Back to them. The part I hope he gets a bit more balance with at some point is mixing up the sets so it's not 10 new songs then 7 old songs and a cover. The early Moon sets (and the early CY sets come to that) were so much more interesting.
