England - Germany. At Wembley. Arousal intensifies.

I don’t really want to see him now k thx Don't worry, just like with other talented players like Alexander Arnold, the England setup won't know what the fuck to do with him. Well anyhow, if Foden is so keen on hyping himself as the next Gazza, let's hope he recreates the tears from 1990 this time around.

Honestly, I'd give England a better chance of winning if it *wasn't* played at Wembley. One goal down and a missed oppurtunity, that's all it could take for the ghosts of tournaments past to come back and turn it all into a living nightmare. That would also be true if played at a neutral venue, but the collective anxiety of an entire stadium could bring even more anxiety to the players on the pitch. And that's even if they would take the lead. I can see England winning, but if so, there wouldn't be a calm moment.

Trent had been woeful for much of the season and is injured in any case? Sancho's lack of game time is much more baffling. Fodden's hair doesn't seem to have anything to do with Gazza going on his own words.

I will say that is a convincing argument haha. But after all they did kill the penalty ghost against Colombia in 2018, however beating Germany is a few steps beyond that. Germany have to be the clear favorite for sure, but England *could* do it since I trust Southgate more than Löw. Personally, I guess I would prefer Germany to win only because I fear a rematch of 2018. Not super keen on going out against England in a quarter final again. (Yes I am already saying Sweden beats Ukraine, as long as Kulusevski starts I'll choose to feel confident)

I fancy us (En-ger-land) to beat our old European enemy at Wembley.
I’d have been less confident against the French, whose attacking options are (let’s face it) almost pornographic #swoon
C’mon the boys! 🏴

Just to say, I do jest about England and I'm really not fussed by what they do in this tournament. But how do England supporters here deal with supporting the team? There's this weird dichotomy where the squad and manager are fairly liberal minded, progressive lads yet some vocal sections of the support is made up of knuckle dragging nationalists.
It's the biggest contradiction for an international football team as England are probably one of the most multicultural football teams for a big European side.

Its awful, just a quick look at twitter last night after the games finished told you all you need to know. The same cretins that don't want players to take the knee because its 'politcal' immediately dived in to politics both historical and current. Wankers.

I agree that it's contradictory, but are England really that unique? Among the bigger sides France is(must be?) by far the most multicultural, and yet Front National are pretty popular over there. I guess people are just contradictory all over the world.

This German team remind me of the side they had at Euro 2000 - couple of great players at the end of their carees and lots of decent players making up the rest. Plus a weirdo in the dugout sniffing his baws all game of course.

Same way you have to cope with being English in general, to be honest - focus on the youth. Younger people, such as the players on the pitch and half of the people watching, are good people with a socially liberal outlook and a common-sense grasp of the issues facing the country. They're just enjoying the footie. It's when you sail north of fifty that you get most of your racist, boo-the-knee dickheads who hate Prince Harry more than they hate climate change. Look at any issue-based poll in England: common-sense takes from those under 35, people viewing immigration as a bigger problem than nuclear tension once you ask over-60's. England is really two countries super-imposed on top of each other: one made up of people with a fundamentally decent outlook who's worst crime is shite patter on Twitter, and another made up in large swathes of a generation who still subconsciously long for the Empire and view anything other than assumed white, male, English dominance as the end of the fucking world. This is here in the North, anyway. I'm sure down South there are pockets where even the youth are UKIP-wankers.

I love Germany and the Germans.
Aside from that wee blip in the 20th century they're a great bunch of lads.
