I love everything Alan Partridge. Easily one of Britain’s finest comedic creations.
His two series of I’m Alan Partridge is by far my most favorite of his, so I couldn’t wait for him to be back with This Time in 2019.
Three episodes into the new six part series, and I don’t know if This Time is just bang average, or if there’s a hidden genius to the series. It’s okay, but I do feel somewhat disappointed so far. I do wonder if it will take a few repeat watches, compared to the more immediate I’m Alan Partridge back in the late 90s and early 00s.
I do hope we have more to look forward to with Alan Partridge in the near future. The character is absolutely brilliant.

The 3rd episode is the best by far and you are a ruddy idiot.

I prefer the second episode, honestly. The whole take-down of the BBC and sexual abuse was wonderful.

Halfway through the series, I’d rate it seven on ten. Textbook Partridge.

It’s not ‘classic’ Partridge but I’m still finding it excellent and very funny. It’s not as broad as something like Knowing Me Knowing You, where the whole escalation and farcical nature of that show I prefer to the more subtle approach of latter Partridge (e.g. the Christmas special when the tension builds and he loses his temper by assaulting the guy in a wheelchair with a chicken on his fist). That said, the film was broad in a sense but it’s probably my least favourite Partridge thing.
Thing is with Alan Partridge, it only ever gets better on repeated viewing. I recall that the second series of I’m Alan Partridge got poor reviews but now it’s seen as a classic. I don’t really see a difference in quality between that one and the first series in the Travel Tavern.

I’ve yet to see it. Probably wait until it comes on DVD here.
I never tire of Alan. You’re guaranteed memorable quotes to make you smile.

The good thing with this show is that, as much of a bastard that Alan is, you’re still secretly rooting for him.

Any scene of Alan talking with the girls on reception was pure gold, and it just seemed more believable (and therefore more pathetic) than him living in a caravan with an eastern-european girl.

I’d agree the concept is probably better and that nostalgia is probably a pull factor for me with series two - I saw it when it was first on when I was 12 years old and my dad watched it so funny memories watching it. Series two is littered with some of my favourite moments. The cup of beans clip is just downright bizarre, and show how weird Alan and Michael’s friendship is.

Didn't watch Comic Relief last night, but I'm guessing this was the best bit:
"Can you send us a receipt for the train?" Yeeeeeeah.

Thought episode 4 was really strong. Was definitely in “classic Partridge” territory, for me.

I think it’s something that goes amiss because Partridge is such a massive figure, but it’s easy to overlook all the other roles Steve Coogan does, comic or not.
He’s an all round brilliant actor - I’m reminded of all the other comic characters he plays but also having watched Philomena and Stan & Ollie in the last couple of months, I’m also reminded at how great he is at the straight roles.

Watching episode 5 right now which has gotten off to an excellent start.
This show has greatly grown on me. The humor is subtle which is why I love British comedies so much. Half the time you just have to look at Alan’s facial expressions. Classic Partridge.

Episode 5 was excellent.
One review of This Time likened Alan Partridge to Piers Morgan - I agree with the comparison and I can’t unsee it!

What would the Alan partridge of 2002 (‘I’m Alan Partridge’), think of the Alan Partridge of 2019 (‘This Time’)?

Honestly wish there would be a few more. Quality over quantity, I know, but it took at least one-and-a-half episodes to get going.
