Is this any different from what Noel's been saying for like 15+ years now?

Noel was certainly slapping on the hyperbole when a journo tapped him up for this quote, but you have to agree it’s a pretty influential album. X

Anyone else think the Sex Pistols were actually pretty shit? I mean I get their influence on culture and the shift to punk and the whole punk ethos.... but the music... it's pretty crap tbh. The Clash on the other hand! Now your talking!

The Clash on the other hand! Now your talking! I find all the post-punk bands more interesting. The bands who were inspired by the Pistols but don’t really sound like them: Joy Division, New Order, The Clash, Gang Of Four, The Fall, The Slits, Wire, PiL, The Specials, Magazine, The Cure, Numan, Dexys, The Damned, The Human League, Orange Juice, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, Malcolm McClaren’s hip hop album, Big Audio Dynamite, Nirvana, and on and on... Even The Orb, pioneers of ambient house music, started out as punks. Which I guess is Noel’s point really. You can’t argue that they weren’t very influential. A bit like the Velvet Underground - everyone who saw them then decided to form a band. X

Sid Vicious couldn't even play a bass guitar and the Pistols weren't "musicians", but without them many many bands wouldn't have been there. Joe Strummer broke his 101ers up after he saw Pistols. He said later "As soon as I saw them, I knew we were a yesterday's paper".
Never Mind The Bollocks is still one of my all time favourite albums and Glen Matlock was their brain for song writing. Malcom McLaren had control and power over the band. Pistols were there on right time in right place.

I don't particularly like the music - I'm not punk - but as far as influence goes, yeh, it has to be up there. Definitely Maybe sounds a lot more Pistols than Beatles, let's put it that way.
