NGHFB is a great album of Oasis leftovers. CY is one of the most boring albums ever released and WBTM consists of 5 songs blown up to ten and then spread over 7 releases. The CY/WBTM remixes are the only tracks I regularly listen to from these two records.

I cannot find the link now, and so it’s possible I imagined it, but I’m almost certain I remember reading an article from someone with one of the majors, maybe even Warner, explaining that they worked on the WBTM release even though it came out through Sour Mash. It’s not “being on a label” in the way Liam is (where they got to choose the members of his touring band etc.), but he uses label services. Nothing seems odd about that to me. This is almost certainly the case. Chasing Yesterday was distributed by ADA (http://ada-music.com/), which is a service for independent artists to help distribute their work. It also just happens to be owned by Warner Music. I would suspect Noel would have used them again for WBTM. Liam being Liam (and after 20 years still apparently having no understanding of the recording industry) probably heard that Noel re-upped with ADA to distribute his new album(s) and understood that to mean he signed on with a major label/Warner. Either that, or he understands and is just riling up his fan base. Either way, unless Noel is throwing in the towel on running his own label and wants for some reason to be beholden to a major label and all that comes with it, I would put my money on him just re-upping his deal to use ADA as the distributor. I noticed someone did ask him if it was just the distribution deal we already knew about from previous releases. He didn't answer, as far as I know.

Strangely, Chasing Yesterday is the only one I've enjoyed. His debut is the only Oasisy release that on first listen left me stone cold, and WBTM the less said, the better. I agree about his next steps, I'd love to hear a proper acoustic album and another go with Holmes, but not restricting himself to writing in the studio. Well, NGHFB has a very cinematic and silly sound that i like. I guess everyone's different. I enjoy Chasing Yesterday sometimes, although a few tracks a very cringeworthy. He tried to replicate the 80s early 90s sound of rock music and it didn't quite work for me. He tried again on WBTM on a few tracks and this time, it clicked i think because he didn't throw every cliche instruments and most of all, Holmes treated the sound as retro but with a modern approach, a bit like Oasis on MG. On CS, it was only bad retro music, a lazy copy and paste. The Ballad of the Mighty I and The Mexican are the examples of that. I would save Riverman / Do the Damage and a couple of tracks, but as a whole, CS is a good EP with a lot of fillers. Well, after writing a huge block of text, my phone though it would be a good idea not to "create post" and rather made it disappear. Maybe my phone disagrees with me, but we shall see who's the most stubborn. Here I go, again! So, my 2 cents, again: Initially, before we learnt about the 2 records thing, that didn't materialise (or did, but didn't see the light of day), I was expecting what became HFB to be more along the lines of what the collaboration with AA might have been. However, that album didn't disappoint me due to the sheer quality of the songs, that even out the unadventurous production. The only 2 songs I dislike: IIHAG (and that part due to the production itself, part due to the the cliched lyrics) and STC. That album is cohese, and makes sense as a piece of work. CY was a let down of some sorts... I was put off by that first single. The rest of the album has its heights, and some of its heights are Higher than the ones on HFB (I particularly like WTSRTS, BOTMI and TRS, and the Riverman to any extent, but I far prefer its live, current version). The big problem are its lows. And its lows are cringeworthy at Times... WKWCGB and LAD, for instance are examples of what a throwback to the 90's sound shouldn't be. Overall it sounds very uneven, like an amalgamation of songs that don't really belong together. WBTM is a different beast. It is not as out there as Noel would like you believing it is, and you can fully grasp that this is where his previous steps led him to be, but it is also a big leap foward. Thanks to Holmes' push and to Noel's willingness to be pushed. That album is just admirably joyous. Like the sound of people messing around with their influences and having a lot of fun doing it. I fully get the criticisms that the album feels short, despite that feeling kind of disappears (or it did with me) when you adjust the order of the interludes as Noel suggested himself. I personally like the interludes, the album certainly doesn't outwear its welcome, but there are no real fillers, for me, bar BAWS. Right now, I'm looking foward to both the touring band album and the new Holmes one. I think there are many ways to progress or evolve that don't necessarily imply going down the WBTM path. One thing that album could benefit from were better lyrics in places. Working with his touring band can be a great idea, they come from such different, interesting backgrounds. It's just a matter of giving them, particularly Ysée, Charlotte and Jess some breathing space and we could be in for a treat. Even if Sardy produced it (my bet would be he "just" mixed it, or produced it only partially), if the timeline we have so far is correct. Why is this so? I sense working with Holmes made Noel realise there are other, less orthodox ways of approaching music, adding to that, he was already becoming more open, and his songwriting more "porous" before Holmes. When I think of a way to summarise it, it leads me back to that interview where he stated he didn't have a guitar at home, and was writing on a bass instead. I really don't see it as being meaningless. I suppose there is a purpose behind that, maybe to help him avoid old tricks, maybe to find different structures to base the song on. I'd say it could be the sign of someone trying to evolve, and that, in itself, if true, should be applauded.

This much discussion on a stupid tweet from a stupid man with a stupid view of the world, still limited by stupid concepts of ego vs. validation on a social media platform that's almost built to encourage stupid takes?

Love Is The Law is hardly boner-worthy either There are some strange people out there my friend. I know someone who is a furry. Don’t google that at work! I think we should not judge and let everyone get boners how they want, as long as it is in the privacy of their own home. X

Chasing yesterday is Noel’s best collection of songs in a very long time ,shit songs seriously? Riverman? While song remains? They damn fine tunes! Who built the moon was ok but sounds forced and song wise is his worst collection in awhile , the productions ok but if Noel wants different then he’s got to go full on , beautiful world , Fort Knox ,she taught me...all good tunes the rest sound like pieces together tracks that Holmes as tried to make sound different but they are average at best

When does Noel announce the new album? Surely Warner isn’t teaming up two of their clients, Pumpkins and Noel, not to push new material this summer. Let’s get this party poppin’.

For me WBTM was on par with his other albums, as in - there's a couple great songs, a few good ones, and a few shite ones.
The production is really great at some points, but the album is let down by a couple of really shit songs, which is Noel's fault not David Holmes. Songs like She Taught Me To Fly or The Man Who Built The Moon are up there with his best songs, whereas Keep On Reaching, Love Is The Law, Be Careful What You Wish for? Absolutely terrible. Those appalling songs didn't deserve the David Holmes treatment.
It's a shame, because it could have been better, but due to the shit songs and flakey instrumentals (not including Fort Knox in that), its only as good as his previous 2.

Replace The Mexican with Freaky Teeth and the Girl With X-Ray Eyes with Revolution Song and it's a complete and amazing record. I still don't get the hate for Lock All The Doors. Great tune.
WBTM was never as good as it's trailer. I like the album more now than before, but it still doesn't live up to the hype of the that trailer.

Everyone is flawed. Every single one of us and every songwriter in the world. I much prefer the notion that everyone can have moments of genius. Some more than others. For some, there are clusters of absolute inspiration and and ability to translate that inspiration, for others it's more like a gradual dripping thing. Why is one better than other? For instance, for me, Yann Tiersen is nearly what probably fits the definition I suppose you guys are using of "a genius". But not everything he did is genius. In fact I think he sometimes forces himself too much into "avant garde" territory and consiously neglects his melodic ability, where (in my opinion) his true genius lies, and comes up with utterly meaningless stuff. But then again, music,as any form of art is subjective, so why should we be labelling people on placing them in tiers?

Everyone has their own opinions. I think Chasing had some of the best written Noel songs since the 90's. WBTM not as good as Chasing but damn close.
The first album, well not that great outside of a few tracks
