Am i the only one who is staggered to find out something like Ballroom Figured was that old?
Dont get me wrong it isnt a bad song, but i was certain that had been written fairly quickly just before the album. It really does show there was a massive lack of songwriting going on if that was the best he could do.
It was the wrong decision to leave the other instruments off too. The chorus is 10x more powerful with the piano. The other instruments also guide you through the song and let you know where you are at, opposed to the kind of messy feel of not knowing whats middle eight and chorus because of the simple guitar and vocal.

This is such a beautiful and powerful fan community. I don't care much for the material but the fact that it /exists/ and is shared and paid for like this is amazing. I just found out about all this, but count me in as a donor for next time. Literally hound me like repo men if I turn on my word. So proud of this forum.

Here's some more evidence that the correct date of the Maison Rouge demo tape is in fact 6th July and not the 7th June.
Noel talking about 'Listen Up':
“That’s one of my favourites. I remember writing the lyrics in the kitchen at Maison Rouge. I was living in Chiswick at the time, while the rest of them were at the Columbia Hotel. So I went home early, about 8pm to write some lyrics. So everyone said, ‘Right, midday tomorrow’. I got there at 11.30am, started messing around with these lyrics. An hour goes past, then another, and another, and another. They turn up at 8pm looking like they’ve still been up. It was the night they got barred from the Columbia for fucking decimating the gaff. So I spent eight hours in the kitchen at Maison Rouge writing lyrics, and I’ve never forgiven them for that. Although I suppose it worked out well in a way ‘cos the ones I had at 11.45am were fucking dreadful."
The following photos by Michael Spencer Jones of Noel, Liam and the rest of the band at the Columbia hotel are dated 1st July:
