The reason that I love that World Cup will be in Qatar is that it will be something to remember. We all hated vuvuzelas but when you think about it, it was funny and we will always remember that, till we dye and laugh about it. It is World Cup and all those countries (Qatar, S.Africa, Russia...) are part of our world. It would be so boring to always watch WC in Germany, France, England, USA...

I honestly don't give a fuck where it's held as long as the football was entertaining. This was a great world cup, easily the best I've seen in my admittedly short experience. Can't wait for the Euros, am now fully behind Southgate's barmy army.

This is why I was so against Croatia in this WC. This picture is from today and Rakitic wrote: The king has arrived! One and only! So, who is that king with him on this picture? ''During his career, he has been accused of promoting extreme nationalism and of glorifying the Nazi-affiliated Independent State of Croatia, for which he has been banned from performing in Switzerland in 2009. Accused of neo-Nazism, in 2004, the band was prohibited from performing in Amsterdam by the local authorities, although he held a concert in Rotterdam. In 2009 a concert in the Swiss city of Lucerne was canceled after the Social Democratic Party called for an urgent statement on the issue of Thompson's concert, calling Perković a fascist. This resulted in a three-year ban from Switzerland.[8] As Switzerland is a member of the Schengen Agreement, Thompson was prohibited from entering into all Schengen countries for a period of three years, confirmed by Michele Cercone, spokesman for the Vice President of the European Commission. Many of his fans are known for their ultranationalism, demonstrated by Ustaše uniforms (including black hats associated with the movement), symbols, and banners. At the beginning of the song "Bojna Čavoglave", Perković invokes za dom - spremni! (Ready for the homeland!), the slogan/rallying cry of the Nazi-affiliated Ustaše. Well, he doesn't kill his political opponents. Gay marriage is still legal. You just have to draw the line somewhere, and while I think the line was passed already with Russia(still watched so I guess I'm part of the problem), Qatar is still much worse. Not only politically, but especially when it comes to the actual football. No culture whatsoever, no stadiums and so on. for me, football is outside of politics. i dont care which country its held in. im there for the football, not some set of ideals. doesnt qatar have about as much 'football culture' as s.korea or s.africa? i remember after russia was announced as hosts, everyone decided it was going to be a terrible WC, with the political climate, racism issues etc...but it worked out fine i think. the only reason i dont want it in qatar is i dont like the idea of holding it in winter and breaking the leagues into two stages...is it still being held in winter? Come off it, South Korea on a level with Qatar’s footballing history? God knows what you’re drinking.

To those of you not caring where the World Cup is held: More than 1200* people have died (so far) while building new stadiums in Qatar. In Russia the number was 21. If I had to pick one argument against a World Cup in Qatar, there you have it.
Edit: That source (a Washington Post article) was from 2015, and some rights groups believe that the number could rise to 4000 by the time all stadiums are finished. Disgusting.

Disgusting. personally, when i say i dont care where its held, all i mean is the location doesnt really impact the football. obviously i care about the countries ridiculous social & political issues...i just hold them apart from the actual football. qatar was always a terrible choice for so many reasons, and agreed, they shouldve never got to host. i care who hosts the WC in the sense that countries like qatar shouldnt, but once its decided (or been bought), its too late. boycotting it wont change a thing, so i'll still be watching...which was my only point really. just a sidenote: ive read in a BBC report, that the (conservative) numbers youre giving are for total migrant worker deaths, not just those involved in building the stadiums. this includes migrant workers dying of heart attacks in office buildings, heat stroke in factories & work related car accidents. the deaths from stadiums is a small percentage of the total. the issue isnt with the world cup, its with the appalling working conditions over there...thousands were dying before they won the bid. disgusting is the right word. not that any of that condones whats happened...im just adding extra information.

For me, it was the last "true" World Cup before a long time. 2022, no thanks. 2026 with 48 teams ? AHAH.

I agree, but in all fairness we all wrote off Russia ‘18, but it turned out to be one of the best World Cups on record. Maybe Qatar ‘22 will equally surprise us? The United bid in 2026 is a turnoff. Just as the upcoming EU Euros are.

The expanded format with Euro 2016 resulted in the most god awful tournament I’ve ever witnessed. As a supporter of a small nation you might think I’d be pleased with the increased chance of Scotland getting there (probably still won’t however...) but I want my team to be there on merit and not merely make up the numbers. Plus, it will just allow the SFA to willingly wallow in the shite state of football in Scotland without ever bothering to do anything about it.

Plus, it will just allow the SFA to willingly wallow in the shite state of football in Scotland without ever bothering to do anything about it. Again, we were all pleasantly surprised by Russia hosting one of the best ever World Cups. Qatar may equally surprise us. Corruption obviously led to Qatar, and a winter World Cup right in the middle of the Premier League and most other major leagues seems truly fucking stupid at this moment but let's not write it off 4 years before the event happens. Likewise, I really don't like the United idea for 2026. The US hosted it alone in 1994 which is way too recently to be a co-host in 2026. But as with Russia and Qatar, it could very well surprise us. I also don't particularly like the expansion to 48 teams - when such a massive change like that happens in football it really irks me - I'm very much a traditionalist. I haven't read too much into how the expansion will be incorporated though. --> That being said, in 1998 the World Cup went from 24 teams to 32 teams. The 1998 World Cup was the first World Cup I followed so obviously I've only know it with 32 teams, but I'm sure most fans who lived through that transition probably feel the same way we do today about the increase to 48. What I do not like, though is the UEFA Nations League. It sounds complicated, convoluted, and just plain wacky. I do not care about International Football to begin with, so adding this monstrosity of a tournament angers me. Yeah, okay, the purpose may be to actually give International Football a purpose and meaning but I'll never care about England like I do the Arsenal.
