The AV Club gave it a C+. For reference purposes, the same reviewer gave AYW a B+. It's a more positive review than the grade makes it sound like, though.

A/V Club and Pitchfork will be enough to bring down the metacritic score drastically.

A/V Club and Pitchfork will be enough to bring down the metacritic score drastically. The Telegraph review reads like a 80 or a full 100 though. There be balance in the world of criticism.

Interesting to note that his album grades have been dropping with every album, as he does more 'experimentation'.

That would instantly become my life's greatest moment what if Fantano/needledrop gives it a 8+ as well? He won’t. A guy like that had his opinion of the album long before Noel ever made it.

No man. I’ve just been reading Pitchfork for 20 years. Know what to expect.

The AV Club has never gotten Noel. I am not surprised. For Pitchfork, I tend to like albums they don’t. There’s a website somewhere prepoducing all the terrible Rolling Stone magazine reviews in the 70’s praising garbage and trashing future classics from lot’s of greats like Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The more prestige reviewers are actually often the worst with leser publications being better. Throughout time the prestige reviewers are often more beholden to the hipster-equivalent consensus, which proves to be wrong. This consensus for NG post 1996 is not favorable- and it is also wrong!

Review from latest (December 2017) edition of Mojo: 3 stars (out of 5) Gallagher goes ape with help from DJ / producer David Holmes. No wonder Noel looked so cosy singing We Got The Power alongside new-ish bosom buddy Damon Albarn on the Graham Norton Show last May; there are no cartoon surrogates here, but WTMB's multi-guest genre-hopping mash-up is very Gorillaz. It's lovely to hear the former Mr Magnolia go Technicolor on these (mostly) psych-pop songs, and co-conspirator David Holmes's determination to up the beats-per-minute and positivity has definitely helped Gallagher shake off some cobwebs. Though some things never change (Messrs Weller and Marr - or Uri Geller and Har Mar Superstar, as Liam calls them - both appear, and Be Careful What You Wish For clearly wants to be Come Together), the Serge Gainsbourg-like instrumental Interlude (Wednesday Part 1) and electro-pop winners It's A Beautiful World and She Taught Me How To Fly are invigorating departures. James McNair.

Observer Review: www.theguardian.com/music/2017/nov/26/noel-gallagher-high-flying-birds-who-built-the-moon-review?CMP=Share_iOSApp_OtherAfter almost a quarter of a century ploughing an increasingly unproductive furrow, Noel Gallagher has decided to change tack. His third solo album is his most expansive yet, with an uncharacteristic energy, most notably on the stomping glam rock of Holy Mountain. Keep on Reaching, meanwhile, owes more to Mark Ronson, swept along by frantic forward propulsion, and there are echoes of former collaborators the Chemical Brothers throughout. As the tempo drops, though, so does the quality: It’s a Beautiful World remains lumpenly uninspired, despite producer David Holmes’s best attempts at window dressing, while Be Careful What You Wish For slumps when it tries to slink. 3/5 Phil Mongredien
