This explanation on Facebook makes sense.... "Ok so for all those claiming this isn't live this is how it works. The band rocks up and records live as you can see in the video. Then after the audio has been recorded the cameras come in and they mime to the audio take they just recorded. In a live stage situation there are but a handful of cameras but being a promo video there are many head shots of all the musicians etc making it more intimate feeling. Otherwise there would be like 20 camera operators! The audio is mixed professionally same as any song going on the album. Been there done that got the shirt!!!! Liam and his crew have obviously spent a lot of money on promo otherwise this would sound just like a live gig. I can't see the problem. It's great and professional sounding as you'd expect. Hats off LG" Thank you for posting this comment/explanation, it makes sense. I like this version of FWIW better than the released one. ❤️ the video. #teamfangirl

Sounds much better being able to hear the strings properly, but wtf? They trying to pass this off as a live take? Yeah, not happy about that. I am surprised that Liam went for that too. Unless he didn't know.

I like this version more than the album version. Can't wait for Paper Crown and Greedy Soul, but we probably won't get those until the album is released. Yeah, it is a better version. Who mixed the album? I'm afraid they didn't do their best on FWIW after hearing this one.

Who mixed the album? I'm afraid they didn't do their best on FWIW after hearing this one. So far we've had 3 released songs and 3 different producers. Wall Of Glass was mixed by Greg Kurstin, Chinatown by Andrew Wyatt, and FWIW by Simon Aldred IIRC. I'm curious to see how this goes within the album itself. Hope it's not a bit schizophrenic.

I've just watched the video. Although I'm not a big fan of the song I like it more than the album version. Those strings sound brilliant! You can believe it or not, but it's pretty evident that all the official "live" videos on Youtube, by any artist, are heavily edited. I'm talking about the ones which are officially uploaded before or after an album release for promo purposes, not the festival/webstream videos of course. They don't just take the audio clip from the soundboard and stick it to some camera footage. The audio is mixed exactly like an album track, levels are adjusted, mistakes are edited out, instruments are overdubbed from other recordings, and especially vocal tracks are processed and very often pitch-corrected. That's what happened here, but I think they've gone a step too far with it. Sure, it sounds brilliant but if you've heard a real live performance by Liam from a random pro-shot festival, well, the difference is enormous. This is so heavily edited that it feels a bit like a fraud, it's not really a live performance anymore, it's more like an alternate studio take. Which, incidentally, is better than the official album version I know that these "fake" live performances have almost become the golden standard in the music industry (especially for singers like Adele, etc), but it feels wrong with Liam. I'm not saying they shouldn't have edited his vocals, but they could have gone for something more subtle. Leave some of the rawness there. Make it real.

Whats next? Playback at gigs? This are not the reasons why Im aboard. He's opened the pandora box accepting to be backed by professionnal songwriters for his singles, so why not a playback at gigs ?

This sounds better than the first single version which I thought was a bit "flat". The strings here are beautiful and I hope this is the version that makes the album

If basing Liam's haircut on this video, we'll see videos like FWIW for Paper Crown and Greedy Soul as well

In a 3 song playlist they all fit - sonically - very well together, even though they're 3 very different songs. Vid is not my cuppa.

That video just confirms my thoughts that the studio version is produced so wrong.
Get them strings higher and give it a more natural vocal with no effects. Even if it means being a bit slower, It sounds better slower anyway.
That chorus is 10x more effective for me on that video than on the studio version.
That ELO type vocal sound was quite obviously ditched for BE because they left Worlds Not Set In Stone off and actively said they didnt want the effects on Liams vocal. Weird for him to go back to that for this.
The last delivery of For What Its Worth on the studio verison sounds like hes trying to swallow a Big Mac in one.

I'm noticing it, too But, I still enjoy it. He should have the horns and strings for FWIW and WOG at Reading and Leeds. Horns and backing singers will be at Reading/Leeds. They are for UK gigs only. Costs.

The vocals here sound way less digitally processed than the single take. On that, Liam goes full robot at the chorus. This take, while having digital processed autotune, makes its corrections barely noticable.
