You're right... the next poll should be 2-9 just to screw with folks. Yeah but maybe we should avoid giving 2s or 9s, because you know, that would be too extreme. Indeed, I would agree that there are, as you wrote, differing degrees of shit and greatness. I do not have a specific suggestion as to what could possibly replace a 1 or 10 in a 10-point scale, but I tend to think that absolute certainty cannot be achieved through subjectivity.

That's the point of these polls man, subjectivity. Indeed, and how often is it that we see evidence of people's opinions changing with the times? I'd say fairly often. It happens on this forum frequently, which is totally fine. When I read polls, I tend to assume that those who voted thought critically about their choice. But I am specifically intrigued when someone who initially rates a song as a 1 or 10 -- which means that the person regards it as among the worst or best songs of all-time-- changes their opinion at a later date. They were so certain that it was among either the best or worst songs of all-time, but then at some point their opinion changed. How can someone simply back-off from such a grandiose declaration [(ex): "I used to think it was among the worst songs of all-time, but now I think it is decent?")]? For me, it seems like it's too much of a paradigm shift. This is one reason why I wrote that absolute certainty cannot be achieved through subjectivity. I happily admit that I do not have the answers. This is just one of many opinions that can be found in this thread.

I think the bigger problem is giving a number only. Maybe the polls are not needed, what´s needed is users opinion with arguments. Giving it just a number is in no offense worthless if no arguments back it up.

Either that or are just on a wind up.

It lacks any spark or magic, could be a song by any bland British band. It is a nice enough song but it can't be compared with Live Forever. Liam's voice is the only thing that gives it some edge. He should work with someone who isn't aiming for him to have mass commercial success.

Remove the numbers all together and use descriptors instead. This would remove the math and add in some emotion to equation as well.
For example....
• Godlike • Fantastic • Alright • Meh • Shite
You could always expand out further if you wanted. Or make the choices more Oasis vernacular related.

A 6. It’s a super opportunistic song, aimed at the radio crowd. A super smart move, I think they did the right thing. But the actual song is predictable because of that idea behind it, at least it’s not as pedestrian as ‘Chinatown’.
The vocal performance is amazing though, even though we all know the comped the takes and Melodyne-d the shit out of it to get these results.

6/10 after two listens.
I like it. Didn't blow me away, but I would listen again. I think the significance of the lyrics is the best part.

Beady Eye bombed so he's playing it safe and putting out stuff that's radio friendly and designed to get plays and sell albums to the masses. I'd love to know what Liam really thinks of this song. It's a nice enough tune but very generic. Makes me think he's lost a bit of faith in his taste in music and his ability to achieve success with it.

The middle eight is definitely ELO-ish, but the more immediate reference that came to mind is George Harrison's "When We Was Fab", which was of course produced by Jeff Lynne. Definitely a lot of George vibes in this song.

Radiohead and Arcade Fire often say that first review help shape future ones as comparisons and phrases get copied and repeated. In this case Chris Moyles saying FWIW sounding like ELO and George Harrison. I'm not picking up those vibes myself. And I doubt I ever would unless I knew he had said that first.

Lots of retro, solo-Beatle influences - lyrics in the vain of Start Anew, I'm Outta Time, etc...

How many singers who were purely singers in a band have gone on to make real success as solo artists? I can't really think of any, the examples I can think of all had a hand in the creative process in their original band. (And no I don't think Liam can really be considered part of the creative process in Oasis like Morissey was in the Smiths for instance). I really think he should have done a collaboration album with his peers, it could have been mind blowing, instead of this saccharine beige manufactured rubbish that really adds nothing to my music collection. Imagine an album of songs like his work with Death in Vegas and Prodigy? Opportunity wasted. Like always with Oasis...

The success of Wall of Glass (certainly in the UK at least) suggests this approach is working so far. After a couple more listens I'd say this song just needs a better chorus. I really like the "You know I'd give you blood if it would be enough" bits in each verse, continuing with that could have taken the song in a more interesting direction.

After a couple of listens I'd say it's alright. Not great, not bad... it just lays there in the middle at the moment. I voted 7 but it might sound more like a 6.5, I'm not sure yet. I read a few posts mentioning Robbie Williams and yeah, I somewhat agree unfortunately, I was surprised because that's exactly what crossed my mind during my first listen. I can totally picture Robbie singing it... there's a thin layer of overall cheesiness on the top of this track which reminds me of him. There's nothing I can do about it Liam's vocals are fucking GREAT on this one though, and this fact alone puts this song above many generic poppy ballads from the late '90s-early '00s. I still like Wall of Glass more... and probably Chinatown too: despite the clunky lyrical content, it was sonically far more interesting and original. I thought it would grow on me but no, it hasn't. It sounds so bland, Liam's vocals are really the only thing that stands out. It suffers from the same problem as most of Richard Ashcroft's ballads in my opinion: they aren't bad songs per se, but they are so generic and predictable that they can't really stick into your mind or excite you in any way. What I find amusing about this is that Liam is often rambling about beige music and stuff, and then he releases a song which is exactly the musical equivalent of " beige": insipid and lacklustre. Or maybe his idea of beige is completely different from mine, who knows Definitely the weakest track among the three we've heard in their definitive form so far: Wall of Glass: 7.5/10 Chinatown: 6.5/10 For What It's Worth: 6/10
