The middle eight is definitely ELO-ish, but the more immediate reference that came to mind is George Harrison's "When We Was Fab", which was of course produced by Jeff Lynne. No offense, For What It's Worth sounds nothing like When We Was Fab.

I guess the "back when income tax was all we had" and the "the first bird to fly gets all the arrows" lines kinda sound alike, but it is a bit of a stretch.

So what do you rate Live Forever or Slide Away? 10/10 Ladies and gentleman, we have filled the Troll void!

Pleasant enough song but man, writers were putting it in the same sentence of Don't look back in anger.
Too slow, generic, plodding. Sounds like Gem trying to outdo Andy's Beat goes on (and doing it for little distance). That said, I don't hate The beat goes on!
6,5 for me, rounded to 7 for the poll.
That shows that it's not easy at all to write a song as good as Noel's. Even his poorest ones.

It's nice enough but nothing special. The best part in the middle eight type bit towards the end.

OPINION:
It's alright.
I completely disagree with people who love the middle-8... it's the worst part of the song frankly. Feels tacked on and out of place.
That said... over the past couple of months I've heard NOTHING about Liam's new album in Houston. This morning they were talking about this track quite favorably.

I have a question for the two geezers who rated "For What It's Worth" as a 1 out of 10: On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you two rate A-sides like "A Quick Peep," "(Probably) All in the Mind," or "Little James?"

I'd say its very easy to write better songs than Noel's poorest ones (such as "If I had a gun", "Stop the clocks" and plenty of his other generic and forgettable tunes without any real melody, i.e. just a few notes repeating themselves over and over again until your head hurts). But of course it's probably impossible to write any song as good as Noel's best ones (noone will write a new Live Forever, Whatever, Stand By Me or DLBIA - just forget it.)

I gave it a 8/10 yesterday and still maintain it, listening to it a lot. Still stand by my opinion that as a song, this is way better developed than Wall of Glass, although it might be less catchy and not chart so well, but that does not mean it´s a worse song, far from it. But opinions.
Right now:
For What It´s Worth: 8/10 Chinatown: 7/10 Wall of Glass: 6.5/10

Ladies and gentleman, we have filled the Troll void! So this song is on the same level as Live Forever and Slide Away. Surely it's a joke.... right?

The point I am trying to make is that extreme outliers, such as ratings of 1 or 10, should, in my opinion, be avoided because they express absolute certainty from the reviewer that the product is either among the greatest or worst of all-time.

Wall of Glass 8 Chinatown 6.5/7 For What It's Worth 5/6
For me, this song is like Liam's If I Had a Gun - not that good in the first place, but made even worse by cheesy lyrics and a flat and plodding backing track that will age it a great deal.

If someone points a gun to my head and tell me to sing For What It's Worth or he will shoot me, I would be dead in next few seconds.
I heard this song 4 or 5 times and I still don't know how it goes, I can't remember melody, lyrics... anything. I think it says a lot about this song.

Based off a few listens last night I will go with a generous 7/10, but I could quite as easily have voted 6/10.
There's a lot of The Beat Goes On comparisons being used at the moment but I do think it's a better song than that thankfully.
I personally get a bit of an I'm Outta Time feel to it in as far as it's a reasonably good Liam-sung ballad. I find it difficult to say anything else of any note about the song to be honest. If it came on the radio I wouldn't turn it over, and similarly when it comes on whilst listening to the album as a whole I won't skip it, but it's just really fucking bog standard.
Wall of Glass is a bit repetitive but at least feels fresh. Chinatown is dirge IMO but it's an attempt to try something different. For What It's Worth is a song we have heard in various guises for yonks now and it's exactly the type of song I don't want to hear a Gallagher release ever again.

Solid 8/10 from me. I do tend to like Liam ballads a lot though, the vocal alone elevates it a lot.

I like it but just wish it wasn't so high. His vocals sound a bit strained at times.

For What It's Worth is a song we have heard in various guises for yonks now and it's exactly the type of song I don't want to hear a Gallagher release ever again. Yep, i feel the same. To me it's like if someone was asked to write the most generic kind of ballad that Liam might sing, this is exactly how it would sound. It's not that it's a bad song, it's solid enough. It's just like writing a song that ticks a lot of boxes but doesn't really have anything particularly great about it. I'm a bit disappointed with the instrumentation and production of the song though, it seems a bit lazy. Chinatown showed something a bit different. Even Wall Of Glass had a more modern sound and a nice harmonica hook, which plenty of people would have lazily done on guitar and be done with. For What It's Worth is about as generic as it gets on every level. It probably could have been so much more with a bit of creative thinking. It's a nice little song as it is, no more and no less. As you say, it's a song we've heard in various guises.

Voted 7/10. It has grown on me but after hearing the hype I was expecting more. Still a good quality tune and I’m enjoying lots of the other songs on the album I’ve heard played live. Looking forward to the album big time

The middle 8 love/hate is interesting to me. I love it. Love the way he says arrow and sorrow. Absolutely love it. And the swallow my pride part is nice build up to the final chorus. I think without it, the song would be much more boring.

If rating something a 1 or 10 is to be avoided, what's the point of having a 1 to 10 scale? There's different degrees of shit and greatness. You're right... the next poll should be 2-9 just to screw with folks.
