I wouldn't mind him deviating from the written solos if he wasn't such a shit improviser. He might as well stick to the written parts since they're just as easy to play and a million times more memorable.
Perhaps if he didn't spend all the time on stage trying to look cool he might bend the notes in tune and not make so many embarrassing mistakes.
I don't normally write these kinds of comments, but when you're a hired gun and you're given a task thousands if not millions of guitarists around the world can perform, there's no excuse to fuck up so much.

Exactly. If The Magnificent Seven consisted of seven Mehlers, the movie would last 6 minutes, cause they'd be all dead instantly with this kind of skills.

Band needs to get some more rehearsals done in the gaps between the gigs, Liam doesn't even need to be there as he's bringing his A game already. I don't play electric but from the sounds of you lot these mistakes sound unprofessional and embarrising. I can hear them as well, the band doesn't sound as tight as they could be either. It doesn't bother me that much, reminds me a little of very early Oasis (The general way of playing, not the mistakes) They really could and should be better though. Jay in particular needs to knuckle down. You could say Liam should sack him otherwise but they seem good friends so can't see that being an option.

That first bended note of Rock n Roll Star is so fucking easy to play. I don't understand how he can keep fucking it up.

Liam's band is clearly just happy to be there and they don't have any f***s to give.
Also, we need a backing vocal on the 'Yeah Yeah Yes' part of Be Here Now.... sounds ridiculous without them.

I agree, but perhaps while they are easy parts to play, to play them on stage takes some nerve and could explain the cock ups. To be fair Jay should have enough experience of it to cope and is struggling more than the others who seem to basically be session musicians given their dream job. Might as well just give him the rhythm parts until this part of the tour is over, then make a change if Liam can afford someone better.

They should turn his guitar down to zero, have Gem sit backstage and play the parts.
He gets to stay on stage and look cool We get great solos again
Everyone's happy

the only explanation i can think of for why mehler bends his notes so poorly is that he can't hear himself on stage very well. otherwise, its just embarrassing. he's a hired hand, he should be able to handle these simple guitar parts.

Isn't gem back with Noel? Can you imagine the fall out if he walked out on noel to rejoin liam?
Not that he would after liam walked out on Beady Eye. And id assume gems Mrs is still pals with Nicole. Debbie would probably knee cap Liam if he even thought about it lol.

I think Gem's not involved simply because they want to distance this project from Beady Eye. I don't see how it's possible to fall out with someone like Gem either, it's probably the same situation with Bonehead, he'd be better than Jay, but the circumstances just aren't right for it.
Jay isn't a lost cause. But if he's still pulling the same shit around the time the album comes out though then he needs to get the boot

The live version of Wall of Glass needs Bonehead's wall of guitars.

That intro on Rock 'n' Roll Star is laughable. I wish I could play the solo of DYKWIM like that, that one doesn't really bother me. That mistake in the opening is really bad, Noel left the band for less in 1994. What was I thinking? AWFUL

The rythm guitar was way louder than the lead on the solo.

What I don't get is, why he does not use the equipment a song needs. Wall of Glass sounds snappy so why the fuck not use a Rickenbacker or a Telecaster, maybe a Jazzmaster. And for that guitar interlude after the chorus use a fucking Octaver!!!

I am absolute shit at guitar but I feel like if I quit my job and practiced for 3 months I'd be able to take over from Jay. Fuck, I know at least 10 people who are better than him and work in bars or offices or whatever.

Fuck, I know at least 10 people who are better than him and work in bars or offices or whatever. Let alone those who work at guitar shops... But I reckon it's down to Liam liking Jay as a pal, just like hiring Ron Wood in '75 was one of the poorest decisions the Stones ever made given all the top-notch guitarists who were eager to join the band, but ultimately Keith preferred someone he liked to hang out with. Maybe Liam doesn't want to feel too lonely in his band, now that he's the solo star.

Re: OP
Counsel for the defense, your Honor. If it please the court, I contend that the suspect is entirely innocent of all spurious and untrue charges listed above. To whit:
1) Suspect is a talented guitarists, choosing to give the songs a unique, loose and at times unpredictable gritty texture rather than a Tim Smith Oasis Karaoke vibe. We've all had plenty of Gem. This isn't BE. Why not grab Andy and Sharrock while we're at it? Come on.
2) If Liam would have chosen a pub tribute Oasis backing band as many on this forum seem to have preferred, these new performances would already sound stale and tired. Suspect brings something new to these classic songs.
3) Suspect sure looks cool, and Liam's judgement should probably be trusted.
4) Who the hell cares? Counsel for the defense counterclaims that the prosecution and other assorted malcontents should GET A LIFE - Liam is back and it's glorious!
Note-for-note polished perfection can be found with NGHFB, currently supporting the charming U2 band. We move for the bolo warrant for the named above be withdrawn and let's all enjoy the RnR.

Anyone listened to their version of Wonderwall?
What's happening with the guitar?

Only listened to it once but on rnrs last night he seemed to hit all the right notes on the intro just didn't keep them going long enough.
Still I'm practically tone deaf so I'm what do I know.

I feel sorry for Jay, there he is travelling the world living his dream, seemingly unaware there are people on the Internet criticising him.
He'll be devestated when he realises.
