Free NAS I finally went the Free NAS route at home. www.freenas.org/I only have about 6 TB of storage. Next pay check buy a 3 TB Hard drive and transfer files over to UFS system, then reformat drives after completed the transfers over. My setup is Dell Optiplex 780 with 8 GB of RAM. It's a Intel Core 2 3.00GHz. It's the Standard tower. I have a total of 4 hard drive bays can be used. I put the OS of FreeNAS onto 16 gb Flash Drive. The DVD drive is pulled out. Besides buying the hard drive, my system is free and works just fine over my network. It has Apple Share, Time Machine capabilities and Windows share too. Free NAS is a headless system that runs off of your web browser. Dell Optiplex 780 is like a tank, easy access and stays quiet it's why I picked it. The Core 2 is powerful enough for my needs. Good for multi-platform, multi- Operating System supported for file storage.

Many great plug-ins for Plex Media Server, your Own Cloud and home sync options. This is a lot better solution than many external hard drives connected to your computer. Create your own user accounts, user account access and backups for more than one users.

A family friend has one of these setup and can stream abunch of movies at Blu-Ray quality (ripped with MakeMKV). Ideal for a home theatre setup.
