This assumes that he will have songs that are worth our time and vocals that don't suck!

Right now, we need an album full of Songbird and For Anyone, to show rock'n'roll is not dead.

Or NME- Why our desperate attempts to start another Britpop style war between the brothers won't save our ailing and increasingly irrelevant publication would surely be a more accurate sub title and extension of the original article. As @kitjenson and lubeck have already commented on depends whether or not he has the songs and voice to carry it off, as well as presumably the desire to spend the best part of a year at least promoting and touring any such record. Personally I hope he has and will come back to doing the role that brought him success in the first place, although I will reserve judgement until I have actually heard the LP.

To me the best course of action is to forego trying to prove yourself as a songwriter. It was never his strong suit anyway. Get some other folks to pen some decent tunes for you and get back to being a singer. Simples. The album doesn't have to be groundbreaking at all and most people will be perfectly happy with it. Liam was more interesting when he was simply the front man of a huge band without all the other fuss.

If the rumours of his collaborations are true then that may well be what he is doing to be fair, although I would doubt given the fact that he has written songs in the past and the modern day valuation of publishing to a release that he will not at least get co-writing credits on the songs. I agree it doesn't have to be groundbreaking, but as we have both said it needs decent songs that will connect with his audience once more. I will be interested to see whether it is simply LG or a NGHFB style name, and who his band members, hired hands or otherwise, end up being.

Liam has written a few good songs, but none of them were rock n roll songs. He might be a great frontman and embody rock n roll like no other, but he can't write that type of song.

That's why I hope he doesn't go all solo. I wouldn't mind if he gets some help with songwriting or joins a band (create one).

Let's be brutally honest here, if LG writes fully his own solo album, it's going to be terrible.

Songbird is in my top 10 of 2000' s Oasis songs, it's just that it always makes me laugh when I read "Liam brings back rock". He's a rock star, was a great rock singer, but he never has been a rock'n'roll songwriter. 3/4 of his songs are very slow ballads.

No "potato" uses for the name of a band or the album.
It will be the name of his first single: "The One For Our Kid (The Potato) "

Liam has written a few good songs, but none of them were rock n roll songs. He might be a great frontman and embody rock n roll like no other, but he can't write that type of song. I think there's a quote somewhere of Noel (?) saying something like you can't/shouldn't set out to write a rock song specifically. The best thing is to just focus on writing a good song and then make it a rock song and more rough with the electric guitars and everything afterwards. With Liam I somehow feel that he's often trying to specifically write a rock song when he makes one, which can result in average songwriting. You get songs that have the characteristics, shape and feel of a rock song, but not the quality of a really good one. It's all shape and not content. Though I enjoy some of them in a way; Ain't Got Nothin', Man of Misery and The Meaning of Soul are not top-notch rock songs. Liam has written some good songs, but in general I think he does a better job when he doesn't try to write a spesific type of song.
